Should Kernel 2.6.35.1-candela also fix this? It seems to have
catapulted me straight into a different problem, where rather than just
appearing washed out, when I try and use my laptop through a monitor,
it doesn't boot at all.

I have the same problem on a SiS videocard under ubuntu 10.04 (i386).
If I run mplayer -vo x11 I am able to see the video.
jFo the issue affects others with the same camera. I applied the *fix* -
it did not work for me using Lucid Lynx. There are at least a few others

I have experienced exactly the same. Additionally, the Avahi daemon for
Mac connections also suffers from the same problem. I noticed that a new
version of upstart has been released and my new issues with smbd and
avahi occured after that, so perhaps there is a problem with upstart not
