[Bug 452926] Re: Warnings during build
Updates based on some initial analysis of this package: 1) The version of c3p0 (which is the latest released version) is not compatible with Java 1.6 (which openjdk implements) hence it is compiled against gcj which implements Java 1.5. 2) gcj is by default alot more verbose with its warning messages than openjdk (which gives a general warning about deprecated API unless explicitly turned on). 3) The javadoc issues appear to be related to the use of gcj rather than openjdk (which gives a different set of errors). [Bug 616064] Re: Broken networking in kvm guests
Serge, I've completed (I hope) your suggestions. Unfortunately neither the new KVM nor the new kernel seemed to resolve the issue. More details below but I'm not sure where to take this from here. As you point out, it might be an issue with our environment. I doubt it's bad software installed on the host since the host is running bare minimum stock Lucid - just enough to act as a VM host. The bad networking switch/equipment is also a possibility, although I'm a bit confused since I would expect the NAT configuration to be indistinguishable from any basic machine on the network since the purpose of NAT is to hide the virtual LAN inside the host. Perhaps some information actually leaks from the NAT abstraction in packets sent out from the host? For my experiments today, I: 1. switched networking back to NAT and was able to reproduce the issue (svn co depot_tools) again 2. apt-add-repo ppa:serge-hallyn/lucid-kvm-test 3. apt-get update apt-get upgrade; this pulled in new versions of kvm, qemu-common, qemu-kvm, as well as a new kernel 2.6.32-24-server as part of the normal Lucid updates 4. rebooted the machine 5. reproduced the issue again 6. apt-add-repository ppa:kernel-ppa/pre-proposed 7. apt-get install linux-headers-server linux-image-server linux-server 8. rebooted the machine 9. reproduced the issue again I did not test new kernel + stock KVM due to time constraints. Please let me know if there are any other tests you'd like me to try and I'll try to schedule more maintenance time. Re: [Bug 632696] Re: libvirt won't start a VM with serial or console when apparmor is enabled
Quoting Jamie Strandboge (ja...@ubuntu.com): We can create a child profile for pt_chown so only it would get cap_fowner. Can you try the following in /etc/apparmor.d/abstractions /libvirt-qemu: owner @{PROC}/[0-9]*/fd/ r, owner @{PROC}/[0-9]*/fd/3 r, /usr/lib/pt_chown cix - libvirt_pt_chown, profile libvirt_pt_chown { capability fowner, } I had rebooted (no choice, having to reboot frequently). This time, even before adding this ruleset, I could start the hosts. So either the recipe: /etc/init.d/apparmor restart restart libvirt-bin does not suffice to clear out the rules, or this is a very funky random bug that only happens sometimes. [Bug 633789] Re: package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Hi John, thanks for taking the time to file this bug report and help make Ubuntu better! It would appear that this happens because the mysql server is stopped some time before configuration (maybe preinst?) and then not started again. I think this may be because bacula-director-mysql only *recommends* mysql-server, it does not (and should not) depend on mysql- server. I'm not sure how we can guarantee that mysql has been installed, configured fully, and started before bacula is configured. To recreate the problem: I spun up a Lucid VM and just ran: sudo apt-get install bacula-director-mysql And experienced the same sequence as your DpkgTerminalLog.txt shows. To work around the problem, after the process, ignore the error after dbconfig, then run: sudo dpkg-reconfigure bacula-director-mysql After everything finishes being configured. The alternative is to install mysql-server *first*, then install bacula-mysql-director. Marking as Triaged, as I think there is enough information to begin working on a fix. Setting importance to Medium, as this will most likely affect anybody who tries to install bacula-director-mysql without pre-configuring their mysql-server. ** Changed in: bacula (Ubuntu) Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: bacula (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = Medium ** Summary changed: - package bacula-director-mysql 5.0.1-1ubuntu1 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 + bacula-director-mysql fails configuration because mysql-server is not running -- bacula-director-mysql fails configuration because mysql-server is not running https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/633789 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to bacula in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Re: [Bug 633811] Re: package irqbalance 0.56-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: ErrorMessage: failed to read on buffer copy for md5hash: Input/output error
Yes, I followed the upgrade instructions exactly. I was upgrading from a current, installed Lucid system, that was up to date with all known updates installed. For what it is worth: the upgrade failed completely. An error message said that my system had become unstable'. This was quite correct because upon attempting to reboot I got a disk failure warning and my system was now not bootable. I had to replace the disk as it was totally unrecoverable. I think the problem was related more to the imminent disk failure and not to the upgrade. Thanks for your interest. Hi Jesse, thanks for taking the time to report this as a bug. Agreed, this is caused by the init script remaining. [Bug 634406] Re: package mysql-client-5.1 5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6 failed to install/upgrade: trying to overwrite '/usr/bin/mysql', which is also in package mysql-client-core-5.1 0:5.1.41-3ubuntu12.6
Hi toby, Thanks for taking the time to report this as a bug and help us make Ubuntu better. On reading your DpkgTerminalLog.gz, it would appear that you are trying to install the 'dotdeb' version of mysql-dfsg-5.1. This is not an officially supported Ubuntu released package. I would suggest approaching the people who created it. I believe dotdeb.org is oriented toward Debian packages, and so may not integrate well with Ubuntu releases. If you want v5.1.49 on Lucid, you may want to submit a backport request for it, if it is not already in backports that is. [Bug 633129] Re: mysql-client-5.1 no longer uses readline :(
Thanks for reply. Sorry, I've mistaken ubuntu releases, I meant jaunty and karmic. [Bug 583539] Re: Lucid freeze during large file transfer
Looks like kernel 2.6.35.4-maverick (2.6.35-02063504-generic #201008271919) fixes this bug! I've been transferring hundreds of GB between two drives for the past hour without a freeze. Gnome does hiccup momentarily, e.g. while typing this firefox will become unresponsive (greyish window) for a few seconds but it's certainly acceptable compared to the hard crash I was experiencing. Unfortunately, I never was able to successfully generate a crashdump. -- Lucid freeze during large file transfer https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/583539 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 634711] [NEW] package icoutils not installed failed to install/upgrade: cannot access archive: No such file or directory
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: icoutils This crash occurred while installing digikam. I'm sorry I don't have more information. I had installed the following ppas: ppa:nuovodna/nuovodna-stuff ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa ppa:philip5/kde44 In an attempt to upgrade digikam to v. 1.4.0.
