[Bug 580590] Re: Squid no longer uses $SQUID_MAXFD
Fix Released? I can't see anything that looks like a fix. Can someone post a link? Maybe I'm just not working launchpad properly. [Bug 638738] [NEW] Enable portlet API in commons-fileupload
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: libcommons-fileupload-java Late in Maverick we discovered that commons-fileupload (main) FTBFS due to its new dependency on libportlet-api-2.0-spec-java (universe), see bug 635895. Hm, so it looks like several issues combined into one bug. 1- You started experiencing CIFS mount issues, due to error -1 (Unknown error 18446744073709551615) opening credential file /home/imota/.smbcredentials 2- You updated/reinstalled samba but that failed, due to a missing /etc/samba/smb.conf. Following advice from somewhere else, you fixed that, so now Samba is clean. 3- You now have another error (cifs filesystem not supported by the system). Error (3) looks like you're now missing the cifs-utils package (which provides mount.cifs). Could you check if that package is installed ? [Bug 419182] Re: KVM and audio driver in Windows 7
As I do have a physical ES1370 sound card I want to share my experience. 1. I installed Windows 7 64-bit Advanced Home Edition, Windows notified it tried but cannot find a driver for it. 2. I tried to go to Device Manager and ask for a driver update, selected to let windows choose the right driver on internet. It prompts fail to find any driver. 3. Google on the Internet finds multiple website offering download of a driver whose file name is creative_es1370_60_win7.rar and titled ES1370/ES1371/ES1373 driver for Windows 7 version 6.00, which doesn't work for me. Examples: http://download.pchome.net/driver/hardware/sound/download-100249.html http://driver.cnd8.com/qudong/13203.htm ( both site checks HTTP head referral thus I cannot give direct download link. But on the later site, the download link is easy to find without reading Chinese, look at lower left column of the page where there is a column of 3 anmiated download icon, any one of these icon should work.) It confuses me that the driver is not offered on English websites but I only found them on Chinese sites. Download the driver, unpackage it to a folder, in Device Manager I update driver and specified location of the driver, Windows 7 prompts me no driver was found in that place. Open the .inf file in the drvier package it is obvious this is a generic driver for almost a hundred different models of sound cards. Conclusion: still no clue of a working driver of ES1370 The wiki page on http://www.linux-kvm.org/page/Sound suggested Windows 7 should find the driver by itself from the Internet, but the driver constantly crash. It is not true in my case. My Win7 cannot find the driver by itself, although, there is a chance it work without crash thanks to the physical device in presence. -- KVM and audio driver in Windows 7 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/419182 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kvm in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 375371] Re: MySQL must not use /tmp
Hi Jamie, I did think of that, though I'm glad you brought it up as I should have mentioned it. The build portion of a package must be runnable as a non-root user. The whole point of using /var/tmp/mysql and not the user-tmp abstraction is that it is only accessible by the mysql user. So we can't mkdir or write files or anything as a non-root non-mysql user in that directory. We can't rely on any privilege elevation of any kind in the build step. It shouldn't be hard to fix all of the affected builds. We might even want to provide a package just for testing that puts mysqld somewhere else. The two places that I know of that run /usr/sbin/mysqld for their own tests (php5, and the version of libdbi-drivers in debian) run it as part of the build step. Digging through the package listings, I only see two others that build- depend on mysql-server: akonadi and digikam I haven't reviewed their build process to see why they depend on mysql- server, but I think thats a reasonably sure way of knowing that those are the only packages affected. -- MySQL must not use /tmp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 375371] Re: MySQL must not use /tmp
I'm slightly confused. These build tests are using an installed, live mysql server and create temporary files somewhere in such a way that mysqld needs to read them? If that is the case, then maybe we could add to the mysqld profile something like: owner /var/tmp/mysql/** rwkl, owner /var/tmp/mysql/* rw, /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests/** r, /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests/ r, Then do: # mkdir -m 0770 /var/tmp/mysql # chown mysql:mysql # mkdir -m 1113 /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests # chown mysql:mysql /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests This should allow any user to write to anything in /var/tmp/mysql- buildtests, after which testsuites can invoke mysqld with the proper arguments for tmpdir being /var/tmp/mysql and reading specific files in /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests. The idea is that under normal circumstances, mysqld would ignore /var/tmp/mysql-buildtests/, but in the face of an attack both DAC and AppArmor prevent writing to /var/tmp/mysql- buildtests. We use the weird '1113' permissions on /var/tmp/mysql- buildtests to create a sticky directory to allow 'other' to create files in the directory, but mysql can only read from this directory. DAC prevents regular users from reading /var/tmp/mysql. This should mitigate bug #578922 while allowing for test suites to run. It would be great if others could review my suggestion.

No! These build tests start their own private mysqld as the user running the build step, not as mysql. Further, that mysqld needs to be able to write to the directory during these tests, so the readonly restriction would prevent that. To be fair, if they build-depend on mysql-server-core, and not mysql- server, then the apparmor profile won't get loaded on cleanroom builds, and so there is no need for any of this. But its fairly simply to rebase mysqld and get it to run outside the apparmor profile for private build tests. Here is my proposed fix for the PHP issue for instance: https://code.edge.launchpad.net/~clint-fewbar/ubuntu/maverick/php5/fix- mysql-tests-apparmor/+merge/35562 -- MySQL must not use /tmp https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/375371 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to mysql-dfsg-5.1 in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 617053] Re: on upgrade from 1.6.2, euca_upgrade should preserve DISABLE_ISCSI=Y
You are right that we don't preserve the actual setting, but rather preserve the use of AoE for EBS if you are upgrading instead of forcing you to switch to iSCSI, which is the default for a fresh 2.0 installation. That `sed` statement, which is only executed if you are upgrading, essentially changes the 2.0 default back to 1.6.2 default. -- on upgrade from 1.6.2, euca_upgrade should preserve DISABLE_ISCSI=Y https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/617053 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 375371] Re: MySQL must not use /tmp
/var/tmp/mysql-buildtests was intended to be the location for mysql to read from, but still use --tmpdir /var/tmp/mysql. Based on your comment, this isn't going to work anyway because of the permissions on /var/tmp/mysql and running as non-mysql. Additionally, in discussing this with mdeslaur, I've come to the conclusion that adjusting the profile for the testsuite is the wrong approach anyway since it does cover the chained attack of sql injection - file - include in php, but does not cover the other way around. Therefore, I don't see any other option than to use a mysqld not confined by AppArmor for these private build tests. This said, it is vitally important that the QRT test-mysql.py is run before upload.
[Blueprint groupware-server] Groupware Server
Blueprint changed by Frans van Berckel: Whiteboard changed: 2006-12+21 khaeru: might this be handled by the ubuntu-server-tasks spec? é 21/12/2006 - I think we should pick an existing suite, i.e. hula and then create the ubiquitous middleware to achieve what we want 13/07/2007 (stephan-impilinux) - We have recently evaluated a load of these solutions and have some professional experience in it. 2008-06-07 (pixelpapst) - Just a quick reminder that the hula project ist effectively dead since late 2006, and the community created a fork called bongo project. However, by now they ripped out all of Hula's LDAP connectivity, which makes this a very pretty but useless solution for SmallBusinessServer. 2008-06-08 (Guy Van Sanden) Citadel seems a very good choice. IT offers many features (including a Jabber server) and is completely GPL'ed. The only caveat is that it does not have LDAP support (yet) 2008-06-19 (Art Cancro) -- yes, definitely go with Citadel. Ubuntu packages are already being maintained, and the project would be delighted to cooperate with the Ubuntu team on integration issues. 2008-06-19 (Todd Hanna) I would also like to give a big +1 to Citadel. They already have the .debs and there is even a connector to use it as an Exchange replacement if you have clients using Outlook. I have run it without issue on Ubuntu server since version 6.06. It's head and shoulders above the rest at the moment.. and it is easy to setup, update, and maintain. 2008-07-08 (Stuart Cianos) - I'll also give major points to Citadel, and have been a longtime user of it. It is the only open-source groupware package that is self maintaining and straightforward to configure. 2008-07-09 (Stephan Buys) - Please also dont forget Kolab (Citadel implements the Kolab v1 format). Kolab has 3 plugins for Outlook, support Horde Webmail, Thunderbird/Lightning and Kontact. 2008-07-09 (Guy Van Sanden) RE Kolab - Kolab is not a full groupware AFAIK, it does not have a web interface. Correct me if I'm wrong. 2008-07-09 (Christian Merlin) Remember also SOGo (http://sogo.opengroupware.org/) it use LDAP for users and PostgreSQL for database. So It could be easy to integrate with Ebox (http://ebox- platform.com/). So Ubuntu can became an'easy and powerfull groupware server like the commercial one. 2008-07-10 (Stephan Buys) Kolab does have a web interface (for admin and email) through Horde (www.horde.org). Calendars, Contacts and Tasks can be shared between Outlook/Kontact/Horde/Thunderbird 2008-07-10 - Personally I prefer bongo, however it is still in its infancy. It has a great UI, and is targeted at being simple to install and use 2008-11-14 - (Guy Van Sanden) Zarafa is becoming an option too. It was AGPL'd recently and offers many features including CalDAV in the upcoming 6.30 release. 2008-11-14 - (Stuart Cianos) Only the server-side components of Zarafa were opened up... There are still numerous proprietary functions that are unavailable in the AGPL version. There are plenty of completely open solutions out there (Horde, Citadel, Kolab, etc.) Personally, I use Citadel (with Funambol for push e-mail) due to its funtionality, reliability, speed and flexibility... They also have a fantastic developer/user community that is supportive and communicative. 2008-11-15 - (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart Cianos Actually most of it seems to be in the AGPL version except for the client license required for Outlook usage. Which is logical, if you are paying for closed source outlook you should also pay for the connector... I know about citadel, have been running it for 2 years but it does have some issues and lacks certain features like LDAP integration. 2008-11-16 (Stuart Cianos) @Guy Van Sanden: Citadel will allow you to authenticate against any service which support the underlying authentication of the operating system (in this case, PAM). I have used this to authenticate users against PAM using modules such as pam_ldap; additionally, it can automatically populate an LDAP directory with information from its global address book for use with external clients. 2008-11-29 (Giorgio Zarrelli) I do not see eGroupware, what about it? 2008-12-01 (Guy Van Sanden) @Stuart: I tried PAM based authentication on Ubuntu, but it only works with pam_unix and not pam_krb5 or pam_ldap for me. Though I really like Citadel in many ways, it has too many limitations to use it as a full-blown groupware server like Zimbra or Zarafa. Zimbra is nice, but it really needs a dedicated server to run properly. @Giorgio: eGroupWare is not a groupware server but rather a Web frontend to other servers. 2008-12-01 (Giorgio Zarrelli) @Guy. I agree on Zimbra. It's too expensive, not all people can afford a dedicated server just for a groupware. Zarafa looks nice, but never tried it

[Bug 625882] Re: libdbi0: ABI breakage without package name change
After discussing this at length with Mathias Gug today, we've agreed that this is too much change for very little benefit this close to the release. The only risk is that developers who compile 3rd party apps on lucid, apps that use the error enums, may get unexpected results on maverick, and vice versa. As such, well be leaving libdbi 0.8.3 in Maverick, and suggesting a release note be added so developers can be informed of the issue. ** Description changed: + RELEASE NOTE FOR MAVERICK + + === + + The version of libdbi (0.8.3) has a known ABI incompatibility with + earlier versions of libdbi that have been distributed with past versions + of Ubuntu and Debian. As such, any software linked against libdbi.so.0 + may give unexpected results if they utilize the 'dbi_error_flag' enum. + Recompiling these applications will resolve this issue. + + === + This was found in Debian this past week, and affects our 0.8.3 package as well. http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=594607 From the debian bug report: The diff between libdbi 0.8.2 and 0.8.3 includes this: - /* other type definitions */ - typedef enum { - - DBI_ERROR_USER = -1, DBI_ERROR_NONE = 0, DBI_ERROR_DBD, DBI_ERROR_BADOBJECT, + /* other type definitions */ + typedef enum { + - DBI_ERROR_USER = -1, DBI_ERROR_NONE = 0, DBI_ERROR_DBD, DBI_ERROR_BADOBJECT, - DBI_ERROR_BADTYPE, DBI_ERROR_BADIDX, DBI_ERROR_BADNAME, DBI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED - , + , - DBI_ERROR_NOCONN, DBI_ERROR_NOMEM, DBI_ERROR_BADPTR + DBI_ERROR_USER = -10, /* must be the first in the list */ + DBI_ERROR_DBD = -9, - + DBI_ERROR_BADOBJECT, + + DBI_ERROR_BADOBJECT, + DBI_ERROR_BADTYPE, + DBI_ERROR_BADIDX, + DBI_ERROR_BADNAME, - + DBI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED, + + DBI_ERROR_UNSUPPORTED, + DBI_ERROR_NOCONN, + DBI_ERROR_NOMEM, + DBI_ERROR_BADPTR, + DBI_ERROR_NONE = 0, + DBI_ERROR_CLIENT - } dbi_error_flag; + } dbi_error_flag; which changes the values of various error constants. That's an incompatible ABI change, and should therefore have come with a SONAME change, AFAICT. -- libdbi0: ABI breakage without package name change https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/625882 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to rrdtool in ubuntu. -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
