Since Stefan mentioned h/w failure, I changed which port I was using on the
firewire card.
Interesting results. It appears one of the ports on the card is faulty, while
the other is ok.

Let me attempt a more complete description. I was viewing a folder in
Nautilus. This happened to be a network mounted folder mounted via smb4k.
I cannot exactly say why it happened, but the entire icon view became
misaligned. There is an invisible row-column grid in which icons are placed

When performing ls -al /etc/dh* you're actually listing the contents
of /etc/dhcp3.
The file you're looking for is located at /etc/dhcp3/dhclient.conf.

Yes, there is a workaround, but I can tell you it's very frustrating to
write down the long ulr full of both random letters and numbers. (case
sensitive as well).
