Thanks Geoff for the hard work!
However, I think I've just found a new bug with the updated version: if
I open a message in a new window, then try to close it (using the close
button in the title bar), evolution's main window that disappears
instead of the message window (which remains opened).
As for the problem with evolution starting with its mai, window visible
on computer boot, I noticed that, when I check launch evolution on
start, it adds an entry in startup applications with the command
evolution %U. Shouldn't there be some special flag to prevent the
window from being displayed

finally found a workaround :)
- disable bluetooth from the bluetooth-applet menu *before* suspending
- supend
- resume
- turn bluetooth back on in bluetooth-applet
not sure if/how you can do this without a mouse, I have a second USB
mouse connected to the laptop anyway which I use for this.

Hmm, a difference between the workaround and module-udev-detect is actually the
connect string.
Assume that you have this workaround and it's working successfully:
load-module module-alsa-source device=hw:0
Now try changing the line to:
load-module module-alsa-source device=front:0
Reboot.
Further to my last comment, this stopped working shortly after I posted
that comment. I have since upgraded to 10.10 and notification still
doesn't work. There was also a time when the notification sound would
play for every dialogue box that evolution presented.

Please look at /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and correct options snd-
hda-intel mode to something else, either change it to model
(probably) or try removing the model quirk altogether.

It seems that after a dist-upgrade to 10.10, the gdmsetup dialog, while
can be unlocked via admin password, still has only a reduced number of
options displayed.

I have four POP accounts and can only search current folder and current
account with the same result as current folder. I'm using Evolution
2.30.3 on Maverick x64.

I experience the same bug when trying to boot up 10.10 on a Dell Optiplex
GX270. It is not intermittent, it happens ever time. I have not yet found a
work-around.

Interestingly my system would not even boot with the new kernel - after
the two modules.dep messages I got one about udev trigger not being
usable when udev is not configured and was dropped to a busy box shell.
I haven't yet build a patched (or unpatched) version of the new kernel,
but e.g. using
Klaus: in an environment of this size, I strongly recommend against using
libnss-ldap, because it just doesn't scale well enough. Please try installing
nslcd and libnss-ldapd (notice the d), get it running, after that add nscd
again, and evaluate if this better fits your needs. If it doesn't,
