[Bug 769503] [NEW] KVM network I/O degraded using virtio and freezes guest sometimes
Public bug reported: Binary package hint: kvm I'm just testing version 11.04 with KVM virtualization. Server hardware: Intel 5500HCV motherboard, Intel XEON 5506 CPU, 3Ware 9690SE hw raid controller with 512 MB cache and BBU, 16GB RAM, WD RAID Edition 3 disks, raid level is raid1 with 1 spare HDD. Distribution: 11.04 beta2 Host kernel: 2.6.38-8-server QEMU-KVM: 0.14 Libvirt: 0.8.8 I created the virtual machine with virt-install, enabled all the accelerated drivers (virtio disk and net device), the virtio disk uses dedicated LVM volume, raw format and I switched to cache=none, as well, the NIC uses bridge (br0) I use HUGETLBS and dedicated more than enough pages via sysctl -w vm.nr_hugepages=4400 Guest operating system: 10.04, 64 bit version, 8GB ram, 2 VCPUs, the kernel is 2.6.35-virtual from LTS-backport. (But that doesn't matter, same things happen if I use the stock kernel, either server or virtual version) Checked the libvirtd log and everything started up, as expected. When I start to transfer some big files over LAN for some times it works as expected. Just transfered some images with size 7-800MB. The transfer speed is around 65-70MB/s. Starting the transfer from the host macinhe I got 95-96MB/s. If I want to transfer much bigger images - 100-200GB - from the LAN to the virtual guest machine than the networking speed drops to 10-20-30 MB/s and CPU usage become 100% in guest, and load arises massively. (5-6 than goes up to 10-12) Sometimes the guest machine become unresponsive as well. If I start to transfer same big files on the host machine it works as expected - 90-100MB/s, load hardly arise. ** Affects: kvm (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to kvm in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769503 Title: KVM network I/O degraded using virtio and freezes guest sometimes -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 769568] [NEW] Ability to set ad-hoc DHCP options
Public bug reported: I would like to see some way to set ad-hoc DHCP options with Eucalyptus. For example, I need my instances to have MTU =1496 otherwise packets will get lost, but rather than try to modify images and enforce by documented policy for new images, it would be much simpler to be able to set this option via the DHCP server. Attaching my branch which has a rudimentary implementation using a VNET_DHCPOPTS config setting. I'm not exactly proposing to merge this as-is, but I didn't want to invest more time in it unless this is something that might be accepted into the project. I think that a generally more flexible DHCP config would be appreciated by a number of people for different purposes, but would need to go beyond a simple config addition such as is made here. ** Affects: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Opinion ** Changed in: eucalyptus (Ubuntu) Status: New = Opinion -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to eucalyptus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769568 Title: Ability to set ad-hoc DHCP options -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 751018] Re: i386 installer CDs are named improperly
Howdy, OK, I'll take your advice. I am not trying to cause trouble. I just wanted it to be clear. I know when Maverick came out, I was one of those who missed the reference in the release notes and I messed up one of my servers and had to rebuild it. The name i386 in the architecture seems pretty obviously to mean that it supports 386 or higher cpus. But, there are more important things to focus on. The text in the Maverick note seems fine. It did not look like something that would carry over to Natty. As long as it does, it is good enough for me. Intel does not call it EM64T anymore. They use the name Intel 64 for the feature. It does not seem like a good name to me, since it might confuse some people who had Intel 64 bit machines with the older 64 bit architecture. But, it is the right name, so I propose it be used. And there are lots of computers out there that are not 686 processors or higher with cmov support. So, I changed almost all to most computers. I say this because of how many embedded devices there are out there with geode or via processors. Lots of thin clients and firewalls can't run newer versions of Ubuntu. I am not criticizing here. The compiler optimizations were probably worth the move, but it did drop a lot of older computers out as candidates for Ubuntu. For the text at http://releases.ubuntu.com/natty/, here is my proposal. PC (Intel x86) desktop CD For most PCs. This includes most machines with Intel/AMD/etc type processors with 686 cpus or higher with cmov support. This would be most computers that run Microsoft Windows, as well as newer Apple Macintosh systems based on Intel processors. Choose this if you are at all unsure. 64-bit PC (AMD64) desktop CD Choose this to take full advantage of computers based on the AMD64 or Intel 64 architecture (e.g., Athlon64, Opteron, EM64T Xeon, Core 2). If you have a non-64-bit processor made by AMD, or an Intel CPU with IA-64(their older 64 bit technology) support or if you need full support for 32-bit code, use the Intel x86 images instead. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/751018 Title: i386 installer CDs are named improperly -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 765545] Re: nfs mounts in fstab block boot at S or M prompt
Turns out this last issue is because Ubuntu doesn't set the interface to auto and dhcp in /etc/network/interfaces anymore. It was reproducible when I filed, it was popping out every time an application in the launcher had a notification. So that instead of the just the icon wiggling and showing the whole launcher was unhiding. I didn't have to do anything special, get a notification in pidgin it would show up, get an email notification it would show up, etc. However I have not seen this happen for several days now, and in trying to reproduce it today I have not been able to trigger it (this seems to have happened to a lot of the bugs I have filed). After an X restart I now have the bubble and it actually works: Section Device Identifier Default Device Option NoLogoTrue Option RegistryDwords EnableBrightnessControl=1 EndSection -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/726692 Title: Screen backlight adjustment stopped working on MacBook Pro 5,4 and other hardware -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 769382] [NEW] check for graphic errors
Public bug reported: I usually get a log of little graphic errors while using Ubuntu. For example, if I shutdown my computer in Plymouth. Sometimes I miss the windows borders of Banshee, sometimes I can see the leftover of an old window. One time I could see in the update-manager that the right-bottom corner was a bit overlaping the close button. But there's no easy way to report these bugs. Some bugs are so rare that you can't reproduce them. Somehow in GTK, window manager, Xorg and plymouth there should be routines, which check, if the rendering is as expected. If not they should collect helpful information to report a bug. Or there should be a way to click on a failed rendering, take a screenshot and collect useful information about the rendering process. ** Affects: ubuntu Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/769382 Title: check for graphic errors -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
