my impression is that the first action to empty trash by right clicking

With a newly created user there was only a very low cpu and io usage
shown in top and iotop.
No noticeable slowdown of the desktop during indexing.
For my taste there's too much cryptic output written to ~/.xsession-error

I noticed the latest Ubuntu 11.10 build with latest updates throws GTK
errors when I do a u1sdtool --status from the command prompt. It also
throws the same warnings if I run the command with no, or any
parameters.
Here is the output I see:

I should have written To DOWNGRADE to kernel from Maverick or rather,
to INSTALL a kernel from Maverick, actually, since it is rather
downgrade than upgrade, and not a real downgrade either, unless you
remove the natty kernel afterwards.

However as mentioned in a comment above this only seems to affect me when the
monitor is already plugged in when I start up Ubuntu.
If I boot up Ubuntu without an external monitor, then plug in a screen, it
works fine.
