It started to work again after some minutes. Perhaps it's related to a
crash that has happened somewhere in the HUD department. I understand
that I'm poking a black box here but I think this is related because HUD
is activated by Alt. May be it was catching it early somehow…

They closed the bug upstream as fixed. I think they just made the scrolling a
bit faster but they didn't make a way for us to set the scroll speed. So the
upstream bug wasn't really the same as the downstream one.
And the scroll speed is still too slow compared to windows.

This is very surprising behaviour, although perhaps the switcher relies
on Unity components being "active" somehow. I noticed that with the HUD
key disabled (as per the original report), if I go into the workspace
switcher, alt+tab combination then works. So I expect on the back end

Ok,
I've tried to run the upgrade, but this time the upgrader just crashed without
warnings or texts of any kind, and it had deactivated the natty sources and
added this one instead
http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu oneiric
So I've deselected this, and reactivated the natty sources, and re-run
