Assumptions: * There are literally thousands of public Ubuntu public images; each public image is slightly different and is confusing to customers. * Owning our own images will help to reduce vendor customization and make for a consistent experience across different cloud-vendors. * There will be new major cloud-vendors that will want the official images, or on which we want to publish images. * The current system was design for publishing images to one vendors in multiple regions * Amazon AWS is growing with new services and new regions, which may stress the current system UDS Deciusions: To provide multiple ways for different cloud vendors to consume the official Ubuntu images. The four methods decided on are: 1. Push Ubuntu images to all EC2 regions 2. Provide a public glance server for OpenStack Deployments. [Bug 951087] Re: Samba non-functional on boot.
The upstart configuration for samba makes the assumption that you are not using this configuration i.e. it assumes that samba will deal with binding to all interfaces. It shouldn't do that. It would be good to confirm this - please could you attach the log files for smbd and smbd from /var/log/samba to this bug report. level 10 logs forthcoming start on (local-filesystems and net-device-up IFACE=eth0) That does help but shouldn't be necessary for such an important package. What if I was dealing with eth1 instead, then the line has to be edited. Plus is the override file guaranteed to work through various upgrades? If not then server stability is really in question. I'm downgrading this bug to 'Low' as its very specific to the way you are using samba and marking 'Incomplete' pending your response on the above. Actually a pretty standard way to use Samba. And it's anything but Low when your Samba box is a PDC or file/print server for many users. [Bug 983681] [NEW] Floppy keeps running forever after every access
Public bug reported: In Ubuntu Precise, the floppy disk drive's motor keeps running forever as soon as the floppy is accessed (say, by doing a mdir a: or a fdformat /dev/fd0, or a dd if=/dev/fd0 ... ), and the floppy drive's activity LED stays lit. Only when the disk is removed from the drive, the drive stops. I'd expect the drive to stop spinning a few seconds after the access is finished. The accessing command returns normally and I can still access the drive normally by giving another command afterwards. The problem is purely the failure to deselect the drive and/or turn off the drive motor line. This is a standard IRQ6/DMA2 floppy drive connected directly to the motherboard's built in FDC with a standard 34-wire ribbon floppy cable. The bug happens both with a normal 1.44MB drive and with a 1.2MB (5.25 inch) drive. The drives do not exhibit this problem in DOS or Windows running on the same physical hardware, and I do not remember having this problem in Oneiric either. If you need more info on my system than the automatically generated attachments provide, please ask. [Bug 969489] Re: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early?
Hm the card0 thing doesn't seem to make a difference in my trackpad bug. However, adding 'and stopped udevtrigger' *does* solve that problem. So can somebody who is affected try adding that ? as in, make /etc/init/lightdm.conf's start on: start on ((filesystem and runlevel [!06] and started dbus and stopped udevtrigger and (drm-device-added card0 PRIMARY_DEVICE_FOR_DISPLAY=1 or stopped udev-fallback-graphics)) or runlevel PREVLEVEL=S) My theory is that the udev drm-device-added event is not being seen because the kernel has already sent it by the time we get to this point, since the boot speed is so fast. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/969489 Title: lightdm tries (and fails) to start too early? [Bug 983481] Re: X freeze with intel video and multiple monitors
For GPU lockup bugs with Intel graphics, you need to collect the output of 'dmesg' and your /sys/kernel/debug/dri/0/i915_error_state file. [Bug 916568] Re: Multiple focus problems on first connexion
Ok thanks, that second video shows the problem quite clearly. It really does feel more like a window manager bug than X, however the fact that you find similar focus problems in both gnome shell and unity tends to suggest otherwise. I haven't seen other reports of this behavior (or, at least, not any that I can recall). Is there any chance it is something particular to your system configuration? [Bug 983323] Re: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers
This patch fixes the problem for me, although I suspect that it probably re-breaks CVE-2012-0946. Hard to tell with a closed source project. :( Anyway, I slipped in a printk to print the offending offset and size. On a GeForce 7300GT (~2006 iMac) it looks like something in the driver is trying to map 0x1000 0x1000 (which is explicitly checked by the IS_BLACKLISTED_REG_OFFSET macro). I have no idea what registers are in there, but for that system the ability to create the memory mapping is crucial to restarting graphics during resume. I wonder if this will fix the other people who can't even get Unity3d started, but that's pure speculation. ** CVE added: http://www.cve.mitre.org/cgi- bin/cvename.cgi?name=2012-0946 ** Patch added: revert-295.40-security-fix.patch https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/983323/+attachment/3081741/+files/revert-295.40-security-fix.patch -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983323 Title: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/983323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 983323] Re: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers
Yes, the patch does re-break CVE-2012-0946. It sounds like nvidia are working on the corruption and stuttering issues and in the meantime they'd rather we not use 295.40: http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=2546510#post2546510 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983323 Title: [regression] Corrupted screen and sluggish performance after suspend with 295.40 drivers To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/nvidia-graphics-drivers/+bug/983323/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
