[Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org.
i945 is not a driver, it's a chipset family. It does appear that all commenters on this bug have i945 chipsets. The correct command to run to check this is: $ lspci | grep VGA | grep 945 00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 945GSE Express Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 03) It may say 945GSE, or 82945, or etc. The key thing is that 945 is in there somewhere. I tested a i945 netbook, first with Ubuntu from about a week or so ago, then updated to current. Prior to the update I could not reproduce the bug. After the update I was able to reproduce it. There are three drivers for i945: One is the kernel driver named i915, one is a mesa driver , and one is the X driver name -intel. The kernel driver handles the hardware, the mesa driver does 3D acceleration, the X driver 2D acceleration. During this period, none of the three drivers have changed. mesa's last update was 27 Mar. xserver-xorg-video-intel was 15 Feb. The kernel has had some changes more recently but has been frozen in this time period. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/981168 Title: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org. [Bug 983707] [NEW] oss-compat simply does not work
Public bug reported: According to the package description it is supposed to provide ensure compatibility to programs that are still trying to access the old /dev/dsp interface. But it does not do that. And looking at the list of files provided in the oss-compat package in Precise, how could it? It supplies only a changelog, a license text file, and some directories, nothing else. In short the package seems to be completely useless in Precise. If there is simply no way to supply /dev/dsp in Precise, please remove oss-compat entirely as it serves no purpose then. [Bug 981168] Re: Regression: Installing apps causes a terrible visual glitch-- have to restart X.org.
@Jay, I can confirm that patching unity with your change seems to resolve the problem. USC reloads or flashes and seems to lose its position, so perhaps something is still imperfect, but the visual corruption is gone, and programs seem to install successfully. Jay, I can't tell in reviewing your patch if it's a true fix or a workaround. Is there any actual kernel or X.org changes needed for this issue, or is your unity fix going to be considered the solution? If more is needed on the X or kernel side, please reopen the X task and let us know more specifically whats needed. [Bug 963933] Re: System freeze when hotplug 27 monitor in Ubuntu 12.04
Since updating the weekend, this issue has started happening on boot as well. It takes about 3 REISUB reboots to actually boot successfully. It happens after the boot options appear, and before the purple Ubuntu logo + loading dots appear. I looked at Xorg.0.log but it does not report any errors. I have attached /var/log/syslog from this morning. I did notice these messages followed by a stack trace: Apr 17 07:56:09 jamesxps kernel: [ 44.483246] BUG: soft lockup - CPU#2 stuck for 22s! [plymouthd:276] It seems to be struggling loading plymouthd. I've done some searching and it seems fairly inconclusive. The only thing that popped up was using nomodeset as a boot option, but that was from 2010 and seems to be related to ATI graphics cards, which I don't have. ** Attachment added: /var/log/syslog on boot when crashing https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/963933/+attachment/3082013/+files/syslog.txt -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/963933 Title: System freeze when hotplug 27 monitor in Ubuntu 12.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/963933/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 983730] [NEW] header file error in package libgeoclue-dev
Public bug reported: I could not build an application using the libgeoclue-dev APIs because the header file: /usr/include/geoclue/geoclue-provider.h, tries to include the non-existent /usr/include/dbus/dbus-glib.h: Copying (duplicating) the tree /usr/include/dbus-1.0/dbus/ to /usr/include/dbus/ will allow the build to complete. This problem is present in Ubuntu 11.04, 11.10, and 12.04 ** Affects: geoclue (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/983730 Title: header file error in package libgeoclue-dev To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/geoclue/+bug/983730/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 920650] Re: windows smoothly and slowly lag behind mouse cursor when using multiple monitors
Compiz 0.9.7.6 regression? duplicate bug 982263 Opensource and Closed drivers affected on both ATI/AMD, Nvidia and Intel. Suspend login logout also affected! Like Eduards Bezverhijs mentioned in post 6 this bug has really partly been fixed even on the multimonitor setup with high screen resolutions (I was really amazed to see that it finally worked!) but it also regressed back on the update of compiz 0.9.7.6. a couple of days ago. So somewhere between the first big compiz upgrade of 12.04 LTS in january or februari this was really fixed and performance was snappy and smooth even on a netbook with multimonitor, only after wake from suspend these former versions are also affected but logging out and login again fixed it. I can confirm that this buggy behavior is not in compiz 0.9.7.2/4 version (suspend excluded) but on these version and the new compiz 0.9.7.6. after suspend especially the regressed compiz 0.9.7.6 (logout/login doesn't help in this version) becomes incredibly slow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/920650 Title: windows smoothly and slowly lag behind mouse cursor when using multiple monitors To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/compiz-core/+bug/920650/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
