I applied https://attachments.samba.org/attachment.cgi?id=7381 against the samba 3.6.3-2ubuntu1 src deb and can confirm it does fix the problem. I was finally able to get the half upgraded system fixed using the proposed package. After that was running for a bit I went ahead and upgraded another server in my cluster running the same services. I used the proposed libsasl2-2 package and the upgrade completed start to finish without a hiccup. So on 2 servers using the proposed packaged solved the issue without any side affects. I am convinced this bug is partially fixes, though not completely. I can
recreate the issue very simply:
1) As a first point, let's use KVM/libvirt/Essex release on Ubuntu 12.04
(up to date as of 5/11/2012);
2) Create a volume (pick a size);
3) Attach that volume to a VM, supplying, /dev/vdz as your attach;
On my hardware (Dell) that creates precisely the bug given above. Logs
are below. Those are the last nova-computes that will occur until it's
restarted.
After this log, virsh *will* respond to virsh list--all, but nova-
compute is no longer responsive. If I thereafter stop nova-compute, and
restart, it will never start because at that point libvirt is hung (even
virsh cannot connect, though it could prior to the nova-compute
restart).
As for attaching under normal circumstances (pick /dev/vdc for your
first attach), and all goes well. However, I do not (re)raise the
'stupid device' thing, for instance /dev/vdz, just to raise this bug.
I'm working with another team using HP Proliant DL380G6 with BIOS v.
P62, and it exhibits precisely the error in *all* cases of /dev/vdc, but
not using higher device names (e.g., /dev/vdx) -- in that case, the VM
has only /dev/vda at that point.
In any event, this is a pretty bad situation.

You have been subscribed to a public bug: Using Ubuntu 12.04 Package openvpn (1.0.1-4ubuntu5) There is no .cnf file for the 1.0.1 version of the software. The problem is the openvpn package needs a openssl.cnf file for the correct version of openssl which is 1.0.1. As it does not have one, it defaults to openssl.cnf which does not exist. Russ: thanks for the test case! I've turned this into a script that doesn't depend on an existing Kerberos realm. But the script does rely on git.eyrie.org as the current Debian pam-krb5 doesn't appear to have the test that we need. I've used the test case to verify that this bug is fixed if I build and install the latest Debian 1.10.1+dfsg-1 in Ubuntu by hand. Thus this bug will be fixed in the development release of Ubuntu as soon as we resync from Debian. [Bug 998990] [NEW] Apport asks for password to often
Public bug reported: When submitting a bug report using apport using Alt+F2 and entering »ubuntu-bug package«, Apport asks for the password right after running the command two times in a row. Later on, it asks whether to include debug logs and therefore asks again for the password two times in a row. When genereting the bug report it again asks two times and at the end it asks again whether to include debug logs (the exact same question as before) and I have to enter the password two times again. This seems to be a little bit too much! Shouldn't it be enough to ask for the password once when starting Apport and saving it in some kind of cache until Apport is quit? Also it's kind of wired that Apport always asks to times in a row. And yes, I am sure that I entered the correct password! I just had the exact same issue as described by Marat above, including the same things in the logs. I don't think I did anything that should have triggered it: it successfully worked this morning, then I shut down and started it up again this evening and the problem occurred. A reboot didn't change anything. What I have done now to make it work is to start the guest session, and from there do a switch user and log in as myself. This time lightdm worked. In between it working and not working, I didn't apply any updates or anything like that. I haven't reconfigured lightdm in any way, aside from changing the default language and keyboard layout (but that was done a week ago, not today.)
