[Bug 975941] Re: [soundnua]: Spurious "Digital Output S/PDIF" output entry for USB headset

2012-06-29 Thread Jason Eggleston
*** This bug is a duplicate of bug 1002952 ***
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1002952

I have the problems described here exactly, but I have this:

$ cat /proc/asound/cards
 0 [PCH]: HDA-Intel - HDA Intel PCH
HDA Intel PCH at 0xf762 irq 61
 1 [P7xx ]: USB-Audio - Plantronics Savi 7xx
Plantronics Plantronics Savi 7xx at usb-:00:1d.0-1.2,
full speed
 2 [NVidia ]: HDA-Intel - HDA NVidia
HDA NVidia at 0xf708 irq 17

I added the device to /usr/share/alsa/cards/USB-Audio.conf:

USB-Audio.pcm.iec958_device {
# "NoiseBlaster 3000" 42

# The below don't have digital in/out, so prevent them from being
opened.
"Blue Snowball" 999
"Logitech Speaker Lapdesk N700" 999
"Logitech USB Headset" 999
"Logitech Web Camera" 999
"Logitech Wireless Headset" 999
"Plantronics USB Headset" 999
"Sennheiser USB headset" 999
"Plantronics Savi 7xx" 999
}

restarted, and I have the same problem. I cannot scroll, click windows,
etc.

[Bug 789706] Re: Couldn't find obvious defaults for: data-directory lisp-directory

2012-06-29 Thread era
Found a better upstream bug; updating bug watch. The Debian bug points
to a recent change in emacsen-common as the cause for this, although it
may well be that the change merely exposes a bug in xemacs21.

** Bug watch added: Debian Bug tracker #677191
   http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=677191

** Package changed: xemacs21 (Debian) => emacsen-common (Debian)

** Changed in: emacsen-common (Debian)
   Status: Fix Released => Unknown

** Changed in: emacsen-common (Debian)

Yes, I checked twice to have all files needed. However, here's the "ls
-al /boot" result:

-rw--- 1 root root 4865248 giu 21 21:04 vmlinuz-3.2.0-25-generic

As far as I can understand, everything is ok.

In the weekend I'll check the manual boot of faulty kernel versions. If you
agree, I'll do as follows:
0. load kernel 3.2.0-24
1. disinstall (apt-get purge) 3.2.0-25-lp-v6 (and also headers)
2. download again v1 and install it using dpkg.
3. reboot.
4. at reboot stop grub and manually load kernel v1 as already shortly mentioned.
5. check if it boots.
loop points 1->5 for every version (from 1 to 6) and report results in a short
table.
6. reboot and load again 3.2.0-24

[Bug 1019155] [NEW] internal microphone not working in Lenovo G470

2012-06-29 Thread Lewis Chong
Public bug reported:

Dear Sir,
If this bug has been reported, I am sorry as I do not know how to confirm that.

The following is all the information about my Lenovo G470 that I can
hopefully get. I am a non-IT person, and I need some help with my
built-in microphone which is not functioning. Frankly, I have searched
and to no avail. I can see the VU band moving in my Pulse Audio Volume
Control, when I tried to use the mic, but after recording, there is no
sound reproduced; I have tried the inverted mic work about, to no avail.
I have use VLC, Banshee and other players. My speakers should be okay
because I can listen to online radio and I can hear my friend's Skype
but cannot use my mic.

I also did an Alsa info search and the log is attached here:
http://www.alsa-project.org/db/?f=400190cf9abc3f87d9de030e7ce22664c1c69a89

I will be grateful, if you could email me at: ccw_...@yahoo.com, if you
need further information, or if I have not fulfill certain task due to
my ignorance. Thank you in appreciation.

[Bug 989588] Re: update-manager popup is shown on launcher and alt-tab list but window doesn't show up

2012-06-29 Thread Edward Donovan
I don't have careful data. But running Quantal, I don't recall seeing
this in a while. Problems with focus when the window.is raised, but not
with the update-manager window being lost and inaccessible.

Of course, none of us have found a way to consistently reproduce it, so
I can't make strong claims one way or the other. But I'll try to keep
an eye on it. Thanks.

[Bug 933292] Re: annoying window snapping to sides of screen in Unity

2012-06-29 Thread Britt Yazel
Yes the bug is reproducible. I actually started using Kubuntu due to
many of the Unity issues, but from what I remember certain times when
you are dragging a window and you near the top panel it would "snap to"
the top or to a side as it gets near. Also, from what I remember, if a
window is partially off the screen and you drag it back onto the screen,
once the edge that was furthest off the screen reaches the screen border
it abruptly snaps to the side of the window, causing the windows
dragging to loose it's fluidity.

The worst thing I can remember though, is that once a window does it's
automatic "snap to side" option, it will not nicely disconnect from the
side, but rather will stay motionless for a split second and then jerk
to the new position in a very unfluid manner.

[Bug 932864] Re: Panel opacity affects opacity of background blur

2012-06-29 Thread brncsk
Yes, this is still an issue on the original system I reported the bug
from (using an old Intel 945GM card). It does not affect my newer, Intel
HD Graphics 2000 based system, however. (I suspect the cause might be
the 945GM using the non-GLSL code path, which seems to be a bit
neglected compared to the GLSL one.)

[Bug 1013334] Re: slice indices must be integers or None or have an __index__ method

2012-06-29 Thread Martin Pitt
I tried this on the 20120627 i386 and amd64 Ubuntu live system (I think
that's exactly the same image as you did), in kvm. First right after
booting into the live desktop, and a second time after "sudo apt-get
update". I also tried it on my workstation (current Quantal amd64).

In each of those I ran "ubuntu-bug casper", and clicked Send; I got the
upload progress dialog, and was sent to Firefox. In no case did I get
that error message.

By the looks of your screenshot you are also using some virtual machine
like KVM, or using Ethernet?

So I'm puzzled now what could be different. The main thing that comes to
my mind is: Are you using a proxy on your host machine (i. e. not in the
live system guest)?

I'm afraid I gave you the wrong file for debugging this more closely,
sorry about that. Can you please boot the live system again, run these
two commands in a terminal:

 wget http://people.canonical.com/~pitti/tmp/ui.py
 sudo cp ui.py /usr/lib/python3/dist-packages/apport/

and then reproduce the situation again? If you then get an apport crash
file in /var/crash/, please attach it. If you see any output from that
ubuntu-bug command in the terminal, please copy&paste it here.

Thank you!

[Bug 863358] Re: Can't easily use Ubuntu without using Ubuntu Mono

2012-06-29 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Paul, your questions had already been answered by Cody. But to
reiterate, "(b) Being able to select which is used by the operating
system" is not relevant to this bug report. The screenshot is not of an
operating system component, or even of a Web page that asks for
"monospace"; it is of a Web page that suggests fonts by name.

I have no opinion on whether weights should be packaged separately. All
that is necessary to fix *this* bug is to package Ubuntu and Ubuntu Mono
separately. There are other possible solutions (like implementing a font
browser that lets you blacklist installed fonts), but as I suggested
originally, packaging would be the simplest.

[Bug 987485] Re: Can only print once with USB to parallel adapter and HP 4L

2012-06-29 Thread Till Kamppeter
It seems that we have at least partial success now, at least for some
printers connected with the adapter: Both Sandra (HP LaserJet 5) and me
(Epson Stylus Color 880) are able to print several jobs in a row. Only
Daniel (Samsung ML-4500) has problems. It is possible that Daniel is
suffering bug 997040 now. About Alistair (HP LaserJet 4L) we do not
know, as he did not answer on the most recent test packages.

Alistair, can you please test the most recent package from my PPA

[Bug 974242] Re: Compiz is moving windows against my will

Screen shots of what I was describing in post #2 of bug report 1017374.

Anoter issue is the gnome pannels display themselves on top of the
mplayer when mplayer is in full screen mode. I'm now sure this is a
gnome-pannel issue rather than an mplayer one.

2012-06-29 Thread Bogo Nomicon
Screen shots of what I was describing in post #2 of bug report 1017374.

Another window size snapping issue. When an mplayer window is resized
off of full screen (using "f" full screen toggle command in mplayer) the
window initially resizes like it did before, but then a fraction of a
second later the top and bottom edges of the window snap to the top and
bottom of the screen.

Image of mplayer after leaving full screen mode with top and bottom snapped to
top and bottom of screen.

[Bug 1019172] [NEW] Clumsy Finnish localization of post-install failure message

2012-06-29 Thread era
Public bug reported:

Quoting bug #976781 correspondence:
>> aliprosessi installed post-installation script palautti virhetilakoodin 255
> apologies for the really stupid half-translated error message you got.

I'm not sure what should be done about this. A more fluent translation
would be something like "aliprosessin asentama asennuksen
viimeistelyskripti" (off the top of my head) but if "post-installation
script" is not a translatable string (haven't checked) it may require
changes to the source.

I started to look at the Finnish dpkg translations, but there are over
300 untranslated messages to cope with, and I'm not a native speaker.
I'm mainly submitting this bug report as a reminder to myself to revisit
when I have more time.

It occures for me with evience, with pdf files which have long titles. The

[Bug 1000253] Re: Brother HL-1440 printing extra page with PJL codes

2012-06-29 Thread Till Kamppeter
Gary, so it seems that I have finally reached the state of having all
info to fix the problem for your printer model. I will change the
exception (quirk) rule for your printer in the USB CUPS backend so that
the usblp kernel module does not get re-attached after a print job has
finished. After that the HL-1440 will just work with the new USB
backend. Thank you very much for all the testing.

I will issue the changes also for Ubuntu Precise (stable release update,
SRU), so please stay tuned as you will have to test the proposed SRU
package for Precise as soon as it gets available for testing.

[Bug 1019155]

2012-06-29 Thread Ubuntu Foundation's Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1019155/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[Bug 995959] Re: Too many to list - installing upgrade, received approximately 40 alerts.

2012-06-29 Thread era
Please indicate the nature of the problematic messages. Unfortunately,
with this lack of detail, your report cannot really be processed as it
is.

If you still have the system where you filed this bug up and running,
you might be able to help out by attaching a copy of the file
/var/log/dpkg/term.log. If you can view this file (this might require
sudo privileges) and spot the offending messages, perhaps you could also
copy/paste a few of them.

I am setting the Status of this bug report to Incomplete to mark it as
pending on further input from you. Once you have supplied the requested
information, it can be changed back to New (or, optimistically, to
Confirmed, if the additional information makes it clear that the problem
is real and repeatable). Thank you for your understanding and
cooperation, and for helping us make Ubuntu better.

[Bug 855473]

2012-06-29 Thread Ben Cooksley
Thanks to the feedback on the Forum, I have been able to reduce this
down to the exact use case where this occurs.

1) A folder must be viewed, then left.
2) A change to files in that folder must take place
3) The folder must be returned to

>From step 3 onward, no further changes will be picked up for that folder
at least. Any changes prior to that (ie. in step 2) will be picked up.

Making changes to files in a folder while remaining in it is fine, as is
leaving it, doing other things in other folders, returning to the
original folder and then making changes there (ie. skipping step 2).

2012-06-29 Thread oracle2b
This is frustrating. I imagine even more so for users who don't know to
manually refresh their filemanager and nor should they be required to.
this only happens if the dolphin tab folder is in view .. if I i'm in
another folder tab and save to a different directory and switch over to
that directory it's there without any manual refresh necessary.

[Bug 1015447] Re: package libegroupwise1.2-13 2.28.3.1-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: package libegroupwise1.2-13 is already installed and configured

2012-06-29 Thread era
Unfortunately, the attached DpkgTerminalLog.txt does not exhibit the
described problem. If you reported the bug on a different system than
the one where the problem occurred, perhaps you could resubmit the bug
report from the correct computer, and mark this bug as a duplicate once
it's in the system properly. Alternatively, if you still have
/var/log/dpkg/term.log and/or the corresponding log from dist-upgrade,
please attach them here.

I am setting the Status of this bug report to Incomplete to mark it as
pending on further input from you. It can be changed back to New once
you have supplied the requested information. Thank you for your
patience and cooperation, and for helping us make Ubuntu better.

3.2-rc3 doesn't have any precompiled packages, just the headers:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.2-rc3-oneiric/

Installing 3.2-rc4-oneiric now. Previous testing showed 3.2-rc4-precise
to be OK (IIRC)

[Bug 966744] Re: Resume from suspend leaves me with black screen or a screen of the desktop before it suspended (though the mouse still moves/changes cursor)

2012-06-29 Thread bagl0312
Hello,
I was affected by the a similar bug on a dell XPS M1330 since the upgrade to
12.04 (with nvidia graphics and nouveau drivers).
In particular closing the lid with "Do nothing" "when lid is closed" in the
power settings was always leaving me with a unusable desktop session after
opening the lid (i.e. only the mouse pointer was moving).

I did a sequence of things that solved the problem for me:
first I resumed my session a couple of times using the commands described on
post #41,

then in the power settings I first selected "Suspend" as action when lid
is closed, then I put back "Do nothing".

After this the problem disappeared "magically"

Sorry for not beiing more precise, but probably it can help somebody
else with a similar problem

[Bug 1000543] Re: Odd permissions on $HOME/.config/nautilus-actions make the directory unreadable by the owner

2012-06-29 Thread Daan W.
I stumbled over this with DejaDup because it cannot read the content of the
file and tells me that backup is not complete (which is correct because of this
bug).
So any user using DajaDup will most probably stumble over this if it occurs.
