Would it be possible for you to test the latest upstream kernel? Refer

v3.5kernel[0] (Not a kernel in the daily directory) and install both the
linux-image and linux-image-extra .deb packages.

I did a bit of stress testing on quantal for all the crashers reported so far
again iproute, couldn't reproduce any of these.
There certainly was something wrong in that part of the code though as quite a
few crashers originated from there, but as I said, no luck reproducing.

So based on comments, it looks like the iproute side of the problem was
fixed quite a while ago. As for vpnc, the problem seemed to be that
people didn't have ESP passthrough enabled.

Christopher, I've been monitoring the sensors, and they all appear
normal. Right up to the point where the laptop shuts down. And I have
run it on up-to-date kernels. The irony is that it FAILS on Ubuntu
11.10 or later, and NEVER on Ubuntu 11.04 or earlier.
