[Bug 1021720] Re: gedit hangs opening some files

2012-07-29 Thread Ron Wolf
I also have this problem, so, apparantly, its not unique to
aloctavodia's system. Ubuntu 12.04, gedit 3.4.1, amd64 processor. Let me
know if you'd like more info and how to generate it for you.
Specifically, I was looking at several .doc files, none of them massive
(less than 200kB).

[Bug 1030503] Re: 14e4:4315 No wifi (BCM4312)

2012-07-29 Thread Shahar Or
Oh, and the wired Ethernet adapter didn't have an interface created for
it, either, in this kernel I tested.

** Description changed:

  Interface is not created.
+
+ Tested using Linux from upstream kernel archive:
+ linux-image-3.5.0-030500-generic 3.5.0-030500.201207211835
   i386
+ Results:
+ Other than confirming there was no WiFi, there were other issues:
+ 1. There was no boot animation - only the nice background color until the
greeter.
+ 2. The X resolution was lower than usual.
+ 3. USB connected mouse doesn't work.
+ 4. There wasn't any network interface present except for lo. This system also
has a wired Ethernet port.

[Bug 1030503] Re: 14e4:4315 No wifi (BCM4312)

2012-07-29 Thread Shahar Or
Dear Christopher,

I used:
linux-image-3.5.0-030500-generic 3.5.0-030500.201207211835
 i386

Running this kernel, I had several problems besides the WiFi not working:
1. There was no boot animation - only the nice background color until the
greeter.
2. The X resolution was lower than usual.
3. USB connected mouse doesn't work.

Can I further help?

Blessings,
Shahar

[Bug 969860] Re: fglrx uses 100% CPU when screen turns off (spinning in glXWaitVideoSyncSGI or glXSwapBuffers)

2012-07-29 Thread George
For the workaround to work I had to run catalyst control centre as
administrator and disable tearfree. I forgot that I had that enabled and
made all the changes in the workaround to no avail. As soon as I
disabled tearfree and set vsync as per the workaround in admin mode it
worked :)

I would expect unity to reset and be able to use my desktop instead my
desktop is blank with only firefox and terminal shortcut. I am unable
to login regularly instead I have a flashing screen with various errors
like stopping kernel and mountall stopping plymouth etc. After a time I
get this to stop using ctrl alt f1 and can use startx to get to
  incorrectly operating desktop.

This began with update failures about 10 days ago resulting in ubuntu
system errors. I had a hdd fail and grub was reloaded causing me to not
be able to use gnome desktop.

[Bug 1030735] [NEW] problem hot-adding spare / internal bitmap problem

2012-07-29 Thread swmike
Public bug reported:

Hi.

I reported a problem with md-raid to the linux-raid mailing list:

I there was told that this was a known bug in the mdadm version included
in 12.04 LTS, and asked to upgrade to 3.2.4 or later, which I did by
means of the mdadm version currently in proposed-upgrades. This worked
fine, so I am just creating this bug to encourage you to release the
version in proposed-upgrades as it seems to fix my problem.

I have however not rebooted the box, so the changes to initrd etc I have
not tested.

[Bug 783097] Re: USB 3.0 devices not working behind USB 3.0 HUBs

2012-07-29 Thread Eduard Hasenleithner
There is no need to test this with the newest release, since I already
reported success with oneiric. But to my knowledge, the problem still
exists with the previous LTS release (10.04) which is still in support.
It is really a pity that one cannot report bugs on specific ubuntu (LTS)
releases.

Nevertheless, since I can use my USB3.0 equipment to the full extend I'm
marking this as fixed.

Re: [Bug 1030445] Re: unity reset results in compiz error

2012-07-29 Thread James Jeppesen
Daniel,

I haven't submitted a bug for Ubuntu before so I am unsure of the process.
I hope its ok to email you directly with a response to your inquiry. Just
to clarify I was not seeing a login screen. Just so you know I had been
using Gnome desktop for quite a long time since 11.04 I believe, and I
upgraded to 11.10 and then to 12.04. I never had any issues but I am
guessing this is why I am having trouble now. I had some problems with
grub due to a failed hard drive. I also had some trouble with automatic
updates causing errors as recent as mid July although I can't really
specify their cause as I didn't dig into them. I am guessing there are logs
somewhere that might be parsed but I don't know if its worth your time for
these xml parser errors. Due to the grub issue and the other errors I had
some desktop environment issues and started playing with settings and
installed and removed various packages. I made many changes and lost the
ability to log in to my system. I used chroot from live usb to attempt to
correct my problems but I wasn't successful. When I finally figured out
that if I waited at the flashing screen that was displaying "Stopping the
kernel and mountall... something plymouth" and used the Ctrl Alt F1 or F2 I
could drop to a command prompt and use StartX to load an unstable desktop.
At that point when I was trying to get a login screen to display instead
of the flashing screen I tried to run the "unity --reset" command and got
the xml parser errors. I had to install Kubuntu to get a login screen then
I was able to login and update some packages to get a mostly stable desktop
environment although my system probably won't be stable until I reload the
OS.

I just wanted to submit the bug because the message from compiz said if you
see this you probably should file a bug. I know from previous testing
experience that sometimes when systems are all messed up like mine is you
can get a lot of strange errors. I also know that its best to let the devs
or someone knowledgable decide whether the report of the error can be used
for future fixes. Let me know if I can attempt to clarify anything.

Thanks,

JR

[Bug 874082] Re: alsa: cs5535: unknown symbols and race condition

2012-07-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Martin-Éric Racine, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't
been any activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an
issue? If so, could you please report the results following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems ? As well, could you
please test for this with the latest development release of Ubuntu? ISO
CD images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications->Accessories->Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p linux

Also, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available? It
will allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Refer to
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds . Please do not test the
kernel in the daily folder, but the one all the way at the bottom. Once
you've tested the upstream kernel, please remove the 'needs-upstream-
testing' tag. This can be done by clicking on the yellow pencil icon
next to the tag located at the bottom of the bug description and
deleting the 'needs-upstream-testing' text. As well, please comment on
which kernel version specifically you tested.

If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tag 'kernel-fixed-upstream'.

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the tag:
'kernel-bug-exists-upstream'.

If you are unable to test the mainline kernel, for example it will not
boot, please add the tag: 'kernel-unable-to-test-upstream', and comment
as to why specifically you were unable to test it.

Please let us know your results. Thanks in advance.

[Bug 869141] Re: 10ec:8192 Wireless Always reports speed as 1Mb/s no matter what the speed really is

2012-07-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Steve B, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ .

[Bug 852331] Re: Crash (kernel oops?) on hibernate or suspend

2012-07-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
phil, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please provide the information following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingKernelSuspendHibernateResume ? As well,
could you please capture the oops following
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies#Capturing_OOPs?
In addition, could you please test for this with the latest development
release of Ubuntu? ISO CD images are available from
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/releases/ . Please note one may note hibernate
in the Live CD environment.

[Bug 1030706] [NEW] events on laptop lid closing delayed

2012-07-29 Thread Lev Kokotov
Public bug reported:

Hardware: Toshiba Satellite A660 (laptop)
Software: Ubuntu 12.04, latest updates as of July 29, 2012, 64-bit
Video: nVidia 310M, running proprietary drivers from Ubuntu repository

Special settings: battery removed (on AC power)

The bug takes place when I open the lid of my laptop.

What should happen:
- Screen turns on
- Screen lock appears

What happens:
- Screen turns on
- Blank (black)
- Need to move mouse to make the password window appear
- Unlock screen fine
- Couple minutes later, screen locks by itself, I need to retype the password in
- Sometimes screen turns off and laptop goes in stand by mode (a couple minutes
after I open the lid).

Why I think this is a bug:
Automatic events take place without me performing any tasks such as screen lock
or going into standby.

Please request more info if needed.

** Affects: ubuntu
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

** Description changed:

  Oh hi,
I bet this bug or at least parts of it are already here but suffer minor
attention. But it really p***es me off and makes Ubuntu unusable for daily
work

  * USB storage is incredibly slow. In my case: A Nokia N900 26GB, a
Corsair Flash Voyager 4GB, another OCZ ATV 16GB, Verbatim Store'N'Go 4GB
and some other other ones I rarely use and/or are not mine.

  * cfq scheduler in its current condition is the most stupid thing one
can imagine for flash devices. deadline has some advantages, but also
  isn't acceptable for usb storage

  * Caching file transfers has idiotic behaviour: 100% I/O consumption and
almost Xorg freeze over a few seconds without writing to the device,
then starting the write process while reading nothing; after cache is
(almost? fully?) empty, another massive read attack is started while
stalling the write transfer. Seriously, WTF? Even a 1:1 without caching
results in better transfer rates and lower impact on system usability.

  * Queuing file transfers doesn't work for files that are larger than
about 50 MB or 5 seconds write time. Surely everybody has time to move
files piece by piece because queuing cannot be used without major
  performace impact:

- * Sometimes single file transfers and almost everytime multi-file transfers
result in massive system slowdown; Xorg freezes, reaction times to swith to a
tty ~10 seconds and up. System and I/O wait CPU usage have a massive increase.
Even WLAN connection seems lost
