[Bug 1047825] Re: [Latitude E6520, IDT ID 76e7, Speaker, Internal] No sound at all

2012-09-08 Thread Stefan Beller
So I opened /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf and removed the model=generic after
options snd-hda-intel

Then I did alsa force-reload. In the alsamixer I see other (more) options now.
It reads:

Card: HDA Intel PCH
Chip: IDT 92HD90BXX

having Master Headphone PCMFrontMic Jack MoBeep
as tunable bars there now.

But still playing music doesn't work internally.

[Bug 1030310] Re: evince print function is corrupted

2012-09-08 Thread Edward Donovan
Bug 1030357 is about a related upstream issue, in the same source file.
I've collected upstream's recent fixes to cairo-cff-subset.c, including
the one linked above, into one patch. It's attached to bug 1030357, and
queued for review. When it goes through, this bug will be fixed, too.

Whether that could make this bug a dupe, someone else can decide. :)
Thanks.

[Bug 1047890] [NEW] Inconsistent brightness control using switcheable graphics

2012-09-08 Thread Dario Ruellan
Public bug reported:

Hewlett Packard - HP Envy 14 1095la
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/druellan/precise-hpenvy1095la

What I expect:
Consistent brightness indicator, consistent use of keyboard shortcuts while
using both integrated and dedicated graphic adapters.

What I get:
Using the Intel integrated adapter:
- Keyboard shortcuts work
- Indicator shows only 5 levels of brightness, from 10 real working levels
- Brightness settings slider does NOT change the brightness in any way
- At bootup the brightness resets to 0 (backlight off).

Using the dedicated adapter:
- Keyboard shortcuts does NOT work
- Indicator does NOT work
- Brightness settings slider does NOT change the brightness in any way
- At bootup the brightness resets to 0 (backlight off).

[Bug 1047892] [NEW] Transmission doesn't limit download speed

2012-09-08 Thread Mike Doherty
Public bug reported:

I've tried to limit download speed to 500kB/s using either: global
limit, temporary limits, per-torrent limits. None of these seem to have
any effect on the rate, which is sustained at or above 1MB/s. This is
not a matter of the rate being uneven, and fluctuating around the target
limit - the actual rate is orders of magnitude higher than the limit.
There is *no rate limiting* happening at all.

[Bug 1047894] [NEW] Bluetile is not launched correctly when using the GNOME + Bluetile lightdm option

2012-09-08 Thread Tom Smith
Public bug reported:

On a fresh 12.10 install

$ sudo apt-get install bluetile
reboot
select GNOME + Bluetile in lightdm
login

The system goes into an odd state.

It only displays the default ubuntu background image. No icons or menus.

Some Gnome keyboard shortcuts work, e.g. Ctrl+Alt+t to launch a
terminal.

When the terminal is launched, it has no window chrome. Just the window
contents and menu bar.

From the launched terminal:

[Bug 1046851] Re: juju-origin: lp:juju fails to install dependencies

2012-09-08 Thread Clint Byrum
Thomas, thanks for reporting the bug!

Indeed, it looks like the local provider, which does its own origin
setup through a script, fails to note all of the deps for juju:

apt-get install $APT_OPTIONS python-txzookeeper python-
setuptools

There is a refactor in progress around using the cloud images and cloud-
init in the same way as the other providers function, so that will
likely solve this, though we may want to put out a less intrusive fix
for 0.5 which just adds the necessary components.

Using Ubuntu 12.04LTS. The current weather information is refreshed

[Bug 1046330] Re: Incorrect crypt() function behavior

2012-09-08 Thread Clint Byrum
Have tested with those patches dropped and the upstream behavior is in
fact restored. I've forwarded this on to Debian, though I would consider
carrying this as part of Ubuntu's delta if the Debian maintainers decide
not to revert the patches, as this seems fairly serious to me.

[Bug 1047908] [NEW] CONFIG_CIFS_ACL is missing in 12.04 LTS kernel (-generic)

2012-09-08 Thread phaidros
Public bug reported:

grep CONFIG_CIFS_ACL /boot/config-3.2.0-29-generic
# CONFIG_CIFS_ACL is not set

I have just looked up the 12.10 kernels and there this option is set.

As we have numerous LTS workstations for developers and are reworking
our infrastructure we need cifs capable of ACLs. Of course we could
compile our own kernel, but since this is an LTS release I have the
feeling this is not the real option here.

What option - using apt and staying LTS - do people have to get one of
those core features in their kernel?

Is there a reason for leaving out cifs ACLs in LTS ?

[Bug 948053] Re: nvidia-173 and nvidia-96 uninstallable on Precise

2012-09-08 Thread giardia
installed the new nvidia driver release.
(actually, i have still nouveou package installed, but nvidia installer
provided to disable the nouveau drivers with a modprobe config file)
it works...but with my nvidia geforce2 mx400 and a monitor acer X193HQL, by
default it choose the resolution of 1280x800 but is not a pleasure for the
eyes...the best resolution for the acer should be 1366x768, but, when i choose
the 1360x768 resolution in nvidia xserver settings, the desktop is not full in
the monitor, the right part is missing. so i have to choose a way in the middle
(1280x800). is it a problem with the driver or with the Xconfig?

[Bug 1047913] [NEW] muon returns error because cannot display license windows

2012-09-08 Thread Shaikailash
Public bug reported:

When an update is available in Muon, sometimes it returns an error
because it is not able to show the popup-windows where the user must
accept/decline the terms of license. For example the JAVA package. This
is a quite serious issue for newbies users, so I think it should be
addressed as soon as possible by Kubuntu's developers.

The workaround is easy too, but not available to mass public. In the terminal,
type:

[Bug 1047919] [NEW] Freeze or crash occurs when calling Gst::PlayBin2::create()

2012-09-08 Thread David Kiefer
Public bug reported:

Using Linux Mint Maya 64-bit (based on Ubuntu 12.04) and
libgstreamermm-0.10-2 version 0.10.9-1, a call to
Gst::PlayBin2::create() causes the application to freeze or crash. A
glib error message in free() or realloc() is usually printed.

Minimal example:

#include gstreamermm.h

int main()
{
  Gst::init();
  Gst::PlayBin2::create();
}

$ g++ -g main.cpp `pkg-config gstreamermm-0.10 --libs` `pkg-config --cflags
gstreamermm-0.10`
$ ./a.out
*** glibc detected *** ./a.out: free(): invalid next size (normal):
0x02198c00 ***
^C
$

Attached is the valgrind output for the minimal example and two backtraces from
when the application actually crashed instead of simply freezing (from an
actual application that uses gstreamermm).
When running the application with valgrind, the same invalid write as in the
minimal example happens, however the track actually plays for a fraction of a
second. After hitting pause/continue a few dozen times, all following tracks
seem to play properly. Without valgrind, the application freezes or crashes
without exception.

[Bug 1047921] [NEW] GDebi loses globalmenu integration directly after password prompt.

2012-09-08 Thread Marco M Scannadinari
Public bug reported:

I installed the Phoronix Test Suite via the GDebi pacakg installer, but
after it got my password, the toolbar went to the down to the window,
rather than the top panel as most apps do (and they fade in when hovered
over and the close min max buttons are there).

I beleive that the 'problem' is caused by GDebi relaunching itself via gksu or
gksudo, as opening gui apps with this command loses globalmenu integration
(Only temporary - fixes on relaunch.).
Reconstruction after password prompt:
http://i45.tinypic.com/2r7544i.png
(recreated using gksudo but outcome is identical)
Screenshot before password prompt:
http://i48.tinypic.com/1e1552.png

I beleive system specs are irrelevant.

[Bug 1018621] Re: Language for menus and windows is not saved if .profile is missing

2012-09-08 Thread Eric
Gunnar, I've this bug affects me too. It took a long time to actually
track down this bug as being the cause of the problem. Given that
there are very few items in /etc/skel (.profile, .bash_logout, .bashrc);
.profile makes the most sense as a decent test since many people change
default shell and there's no guarantee on .bashrc/.bash_logout existing.

That said, I would think that users would benefit from simply changing
the error message here. Instead of seeing no access to HOME, maybe
something more descriptive like

No access to ~/.profile or ~/.profile does not exist, so language not
saved.

Under 12.04, it seems to work as well. If anybody can confirm this, we
can mark this bug as Fix released (somwhere, somehow).

[Bug 1047908] Re: CONFIG_CIFS_ACL is missing in 12.04 LTS kernel (-generic)

2012-09-08 Thread phaidros
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected running-unity staging

** Description changed:

  grep CONFIG_CIFS_ACL /boot/config-3.2.0-29-generic
  # CONFIG_CIFS_ACL is not set

  I have just looked up the 12.10 kernels and there this option is set.

  As we have numerous LTS workstations for developers and are reworking
  our infrastructure we need cifs capable of ACLs. Of course we could
  compile our own kernel, but since this is an LTS release I have the
  feeling this is not the real option here.

  What option - using apt and staying LTS - do people have to get one of
  those core features in their kernel?

  Is there a reason for leaving out cifs ACLs in LTS ?
