I've set empathy to hide offline contacts. Although, when someone that's
online go offline, the contact stay there, but as Offline. Changing
Hide offline contacts option doesn't affect this. They only vanish if

Bug 1051447 is about this same problem, it seems. That one's assigned to
glib. It probably is that general, 'cause it's happening in totem and
other apps, too. (Like bug 1051371; I duped that one, too.) So
I duped a couple bugs that appear to be this problem. This one was
assigned to glib, which seemed better. Certainly it's more general than
just nautilus or totem. I tried to make the subject line more general,
and note that apostrophe-space any where in the whole path can trigger
the bug.
I also want to note, that clicking on a file with apostrophes and spaces
in the name, in nautilus, can open several instances of gedit, passing
each a fragment of the name.

I have the same issue. Under Ubuntu 10.10 i fixed that by enforcing
Ubuntu to mount USB devices as sync and not as async. But as time
went by, i don't know anymore how i did that or if it is still possible.
At the moment the speed is very slow (5-7 MB/s), while i could write

Hi, I hope this isn't planned to land for Ubuntu 12.10. UI freeze was
over 2 weeks ago, documentation string freeze is Thursday, and no UIFe
has even been asked for. There is a fairly large amount of workspace
content in the Ubuntu Desktop Guide, which would need to be rewritten.

Checked with intel drivers 2.20.0 and also latest git, and also with SNA
and UXA acceleration methods, but only vesa driver didn't have
corruptions after upgrade to 5.16. Downgrading unity to 5.14 gets rid of
the issue.
