I have been able to get around this bug on IBM T60/x1400 running Kubuntu
12.04, by using kwin_gles desktop manager instead of the default one
(kwin).
I had problems with sound slowing down and being very choppy when
desktop effects were enabled, or when playing full-screen flash videos.

OK, long time without an update. In the mean time development focus has
been udisks 2.0 which is a completely different codebase where floppy
disks actually work. Since udisks 2.0 has been shipping in distros since
the spring, I'm not really interested in fixing this for udisks 1.x. So

2nd will not be autocorrected if the locale LC_ALL=de_DE
the problem in 3.6 is fixed by this commit from master:
defe079d455ccc958fd0128e8a8cf0e4aeb5cd9c
the git log indicates that there is apparently a feature to make
the autocorrect language dependent, OOo issue 20348, implemented by Cedric.

Yeah, the feature is supposed to now be language dependant. i.e. 1st, 2nd, 3rd
for English, while 1er, 2e, etc. for French.
3.6 is busted in that it carefully determines that e.g. st is indeed the
right suffix for English but then ignores it

immediately blank and monitor is blinking, and then works again some time after
fbcon and radeon modules are manually loaded in boot scripts

Oh yes there was and now even without the patch my machine displays something
on the DVI screen when both screens are plugged and the GPU doesn't hang
anymore even without NoAccel (but only from a cold boot, if I reboot/reset I
get a black screen and the GPU hangup). So part of the problem was
I take back what I said before...
I just did a *very* cold boot (the machine was not connected to the electricity
network during the night). I got the black DVI screen and GPU hangup with the
patch. So the firmware change didn't do anything in facts...

From a MantisBT developer point-of-view I don't see any reason for
holding back on stabilisation. We're fairly strict about what goes into
minor version bumps (security and small bug fixes).
