I rolled back to unity 6.6 (but still music lens 6.8) and tested and it
worked so I know my music is indexed.
I rolled forward again using the ppa, and waited until disk activity calmed
after logging in.
I then opened the music lens and typed "Blondie". The spinner span for a while
then stopped.
it seems that the new version requires a small change in the build
process

this, but something can probably be done for ubuntu precise in

I am running the newer intel drivers from the oibaf PPA, together with a 3.5

I am unable to use the 3.6 release candidates or the 3.6 release, I am
faced with some sort of error that drops to some shell that starts with
'n' (it definetly wasn't nautilus), however I am able to use 3.5.5 with

The desktop icon shows a white bar towards the top. I do not expect it

A few days ago I upgraded to the current dev version of quantal, running kernel
3.5.0-16-generic.
The low speed problem seems to be gone.

FWIW: the workaround is to move the Idea folder to unencrypted directory
and create a symlink. Not only Idea does not crash anymore, but the
indexing is also much, much faster
