1) If an application specifies a 24bit icon, it will get that icon, rather than

A process of elimination, seems to indicate it's landscape related. By
going through my new machine setup https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BarryWarsaw
and doing multiple reboots with disk snapshotting, it seems like things
are fine until I install Landscape and register the machine with the

11.10 and then to 12.05 the sound device has vanished; the modules are
loaded, the device appears in lspci, but on the sound config Output or
Input panel there are no devices listed and the output volume

I got this too, by activating 304 with jockey and then, without
restarting, activating 310 instead. Next reboot, X failed. Running
'startx' produced this:
