Re: [Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2012-12-13 Thread Martian
I'm sorry for having an opinion, I didn't know it's prohibited here.
Also, I understand since Linux is a very simple and clear-out design in
general, it would hurt the concept to give users freedom at the expense of
simplicity.
Forgive me for bothering you, won't happen ever again.

[Bug 1089342] Re: Postfix uses temporary IPv6 address for outbound connections

2012-12-13 Thread Scott Kitterman
What we ship now is the upstream default and that is the correct thing
to do by default. I think it's a fair point to discuss if, given the
increasing availability of IPv6, there should be a debconf question
about this. I think it would make sense to add it as a low priority
(not normally asked) question so the answer can be pre-seeded.

I think the documentation (as usual for postfix) is excellent. When I
ran into this problem myself, I was able to solve it using the available
documentation. Postfix documentation is not, however, aimed at new
postfix users. It would probably make sense to add a discussion about
this to the Ubuntu Server Guide.

Re: [Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2012-12-13 Thread David Huggins-Daines
@Seb: I'm sorry, actually it was me that revived this discussion with a
rather flaming diatribe. Thank you for directing me to the original
Nautilus bug - for some reason Google doesn't pick it up, and I really
wanted to know what the process was that led to this decision. I find it
surprising, because it violates what I think of as generally accepted human
interface guidelines (don't require right clicks or keyboard shortcuts,
direct manipulation, etc).

For me this is a papercut, as I use Windows and Mac OS X regularly and am
always surprised when I try to use Nautilus in the same way as I'd use the
Finder or Explorer. Of course, on Linux, it's often much faster (though
not very user-friendly) to just use the shell to manage files.

I know there's some concern that people will rename files accidentally, but
on Mac OS, click-to-rename only happens if you click on the filename, not
on the icon. This seems like a pretty good compromise as it makes it clear
that you're trying to operate on the file name and not the file itself.
I've seen this user interface pattern elsewhere too...

Of course, on Mac OS, you can also hit return to rename a file:

http://www.tuaw.com/2007/04/26/mac-101-a-simple-trick-to-rename-files/

In Nautilus and on Windows, this opens the file, which is pretty expensive

[Bug 1089966] [NEW] Gedit scrolling jumps to wrong location after re-focusing on window and scrolling mouse wheel slightly

2012-12-13 Thread Julian
Public bug reported:

While Gedit application is open, switch to another application which
allows mouse wheel scrolling, such as Chromium web browser, or Firefox,
or LibreOffice Writer. Use mouse wheel to scroll up or down in the web
browser. Switch back to Gedit and nudge the mouse wheel slightly. The
Gedit window seems to be saving all mouse wheel scrolling commands from
the mouse wheel while in Chromium and applying them to the Gedit window,
causing the scrolling to jump to the wrong location in the document. If
I scroll up in Chromium, then switch to Gedit and scroll down in Gedit,
it will instead scroll up by the same amount that I scrolled up in
Chromium. Gedit ignores the command from the mouse wheel and applies
the scroll activity from the previous window instead. This bug does not
seem to be affecting other applications which uses mouse scrolling.
Chromium, Firefox, and LibreOffice Writer all work fine and do not jump.
Only Gedit jumps to the wrong location on returning to the window and
nudging the mouse wheel slightly.

2012-12-13 Thread Louis Bouchard
After confirming with Mathieu, I have verified that setting both
http_proxy and https_proxy environment variables will allow add-apt-
repository to work as expected.

Here is an example :

root@PreciseS-kdump:~# export http_proxy=http://10.1.1.3:3128;

root@PreciseS-kdump:~# add-apt-repository -r ppa:canonical-support/support-tools
Traceback (most recent call last):

root@PreciseS-kdump:~# export https_proxy=http://10.1.1.3:3128;
root@PreciseS-kdump:~# add-apt-repository -r ppa:canonical-support/support-tools
You are about to remove the following PPA from your system:
Data collection and diagnostic tools useful for technical support
 More info: https://launchpad.net/~canonical-support/+archive/support-tools
Press [ENTER] to continue or ctrl-c to cancel removing it

So both http_proxy and https_proxy must be setup to point to the proxy,
since the add-apt-repository command itself require this information
accessible

I have marked the task Fix released as the command works correctly

[Bug 1089970] Re: Build LBM's for 12.04 and 12.10 to support IP Injection for Azure

2012-12-13 Thread Ben Howard
** Description changed:

In order to support IP injection on Azure, we need to back-port the HV
stack from 3.7. After discussion, we will implement this via linux-
  backport-modules.

  Tasks:
  1. Build LBM for 12.04 and 12.10
  2. Debify the supporting scripts for IP injection
- 3. Make hv_kvp_daemon_init aware of LBM module option.

[Bug 741364] Re: libecryptfs_key_mod_openssl.so does not exist in ecryptfs-utils

2012-12-13 Thread Redsandro
Thanks for the reply.

Which man page? I don't see that stated in any of the 12.10 man pages.

Sorry, I played with this at home (12.10) but I am at an old version (at
work) now. :P I just assumed the manual was the same as here.

It's too bad there is little to no interest. Ecryptfs is really great
technology. I am using it for encrypting mountable OTFE remote backups,
and I like to use a simple password at the safe local site, yet have
strong key based encryption on the files. Because, as the ecryptfs
manual puts it (or used to put it): Cryptographic keys derived from
passphrases are generally worthless.

It could be that I am using ecryptfs in a silly way, because otherwise,
given the popularity of key+password based ssh login to servers for
maintenance, one would think that typical devs would actually prefer
keys over passwords.

Am I missing a trick? Is it possible to use a crazy password and store
it in your keyring permanently so the ecryptfs will mount without a
password dialog when logged in and keyring opened?

statements like option for those perverts who want it, just an excuse

negligance and arrogance of the immature people are not opinions but
direct agression though and that's not fine

THIS STILL EXISTS IN 12.04 - Tested on 12.04 on netbook ASUS Eee PC X101

allways on Android and just now tested on Windows

I have TL-WR340G router my repeater TL-WA500G set up to work BUT works
in Windows but not in Ubuntu. For 1/2 year ive tried different settings
and setups using not bridge not repeater but universal repeater setting.
So now i have HEX 128bit open WEP key (couse my repeater has only wep
repeating or no key repeating function) and repeater has same HEX 128bit
open WEP. Android was allways even with noncopatible options able to
connect. Like Hex key shared repeated open but on Android i put ASCII.
Now i just tried on WIndows and its working. So theres big problem in
Ubuntu- cant connect no way to repeater.

[Bug 1032550] Re: [multipath] failed to get sysfs information

2012-12-13 Thread Peter Petrakis
hmm, try this.

kernel.panic_on_oops = 0
kernel.softlockup_panic = 0
kernel.unknown_nmi_panic = 0
kernel.panic_on_unrecovered_nmi = 0
kernel.panic_on_io_nmi = 0
kernel.hung_task_panic = 0

Make sure these are all set to 1 in /etc/sysctl.conf and then run sysctl
-p

Also, lets configure ftrace, see if we get lucky and can catch the deadlock
as it happens.

[as root]
cd /sys/kernel/debug/tracing

echo function current_tracer
echo 16000 buffer_size_kb
echo scsi_* set_ftrace_filter
echo fc_* set_ftrace_filter

When the kernel crashes, I'll be able to retrieve this buffer from the
dump

Should none of the dump triggers work, then just watch it and trigger it
yourself.
# echo c /proc/sysrq-trigger

The hung multipath -v0 processes are usually spawned on behalf of udev events.
Before you begin the test, please record the current dm map (dmsetup table -v)
and the output of (lsscsi -lv) so I have a point of reference. Thanks.

First noticed this a few weeks ago on 11.10. Upgraded to 12.04, no
impact.. Looks like an exact match so far.. Satellite L755, , Codec:
Conexant CX20585. Will work for a few min to an hour at times then it
stops... May be connected to power saving, I did notice it seems to
happen when I walk away and the screen locks.. Have also had it stop in

[Bug 933776] Re: [regression] scale/spread: Initiate Window Picker for All Windows does not show all windows. It shows only windows from curent workspace.

2012-12-13 Thread Doug McMahon
Sebastien Bacher (seb128) wrote
changing default action will only apply for new user since the actions are
written in the user's config on first start ... e.g your xml.in change will not
apply to existing users and their super-W will start doing the wrong thing

Not really, super+w is set for current workspace only a patched
compiz/.xml would continue to use super+w for current workspace only
(tested here

The only possible issue with the current 0.9.7 commit + .xml change is
the possibility of the so-called flying windows. As I mentioned quite
some time ago over the course of 60 or so fresh 12.04 installs with a
patched compiz the fly aways would sometimes happen only *once* per
install, maybe others find differently??

[Bug 1088295] Re: lxc container can control other container's cpu share, memory limit, or access of block and character devices

2012-12-13 Thread Serge Hallyn
It definately has security implications. The apparmor profile is the
primary way we protect the host from a guest with the lxc package (which
openstack does not use), preventing things like writing to /proc/sysrq-
trigger.

Nova could move containers into a container apparmor profile itself
after starting them... Note that some things will end up not being
possible by default - for instance an lxc guest won't be able to install
libvirt or lxc because they need to mount cgroups, which is not safe.

But the right solution is to implement the libvirt-lxc security
operations for apparmor, or to implement the libvirt driver to use lxc
from the lxc package.

[Bug 48671] Re: Cannot rename by clicking on a file

2012-12-13 Thread Dario Ruellan
I also miss this feature, but I agree that the way Windows does it did not make
sense: the single-click-wait mechanism is inconsistent.
I prefer OSX method of click-and-hold, this also has some analogy with
touch-and-hold, and feels more natural.

The F2 shourtcut works fine (to rename a file/folder you need to touch
the keyboard anyway), but a shortcut mechanism on the touchpad/mouse
seems more convenient and easy to remember.

[Bug 978120] Re: Toshiba Estudio 230 printer driver bug

2012-12-13 Thread Jacques Blain
Ok, in 12.10 64 bit straight install on a Toshiba Studio 230

Printing simply does not work as per my original post (top of the
thread)

If I do

 lpadmin -p printer-name-here -o pdftops-renderer-default=pdftops

Then printing seems to work but it does not really. If I try to print
the attached file for instance

Print all pages -- Only the first page prints and the nothing else
Print pages 2 to 5 -- I get 4 blank pages, no errors nothing
Print page 6 to 29 -- I get nothing, no errors

Does this info help to narrow down the problem ?

Regard

Jacques Blain

[Bug 1088470] Re: Killing Gnome-Do resets shortcut doesn't let Do launch at startup

2012-12-13 Thread Bob Merhebi
** Description changed:

On several occasions I was forced to kill some applications including
Gnome Do. After I kill relaunch Gnome Do, the assigned shortcut is
reset to nothing, but i get the main interface from which I could
reassign the shortcut from the preferences menu.

This last time, I was not able to get the window to reassign the
shortcut! No matter how many times I try, Gnome Do doesn't launch
(graphically); it is running in the background.

- I haven't tried to reboot the system this time since I've been working
- on something do not wish to reboot.
+ The only way I found to circumvent this launch the interface was to launch
two instances from the terminal!
+ After I set the shorcut I would quit both relaunch it as normal!

- How can I access the preferences?
+ There must be an easier way to access the preferences!

Btw, I think it would be useful in such cases if Gnome Do had a cli
interface or at least some options!

[Bug 1089995] [NEW] Gwibber missing python-httplib2 dependency

2012-12-13 Thread Donald Hayward
Public bug reported:

A fresh install of Gwibber on Kubuntu fails to connect to supported
services (Facebook, Twitter in my case). It complains about getting
error code 1 from gwibber-service.

Attempting to start gwibber-service directly results in an ImportError due to a
missing Python package:
$ gwibber-service
Traceback (most recent call last):
File /usr/bin/gwibber-service, line 55, in module
from gwibber.microblog.util.log import setup_logging
  File /usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/gwibber/microblog/util/__init__.py,
line 1, in module
import re, cgi, httplib2
ImportError: No module named httplib2

Installing 'python-httplib2' manually fixes the problem. Thus it should
probably be a dependency (or a dependency of a dependency, etc.) of
gwibber.

[Bug 1089943] Re: Lost its Modalises: package header

2012-12-13 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package bcmwl - 6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu2

---
bcmwl (6.20.155.1+bdcom-0ubuntu2) raring; urgency=low

  * Drop parsing of src/src/wl/sys/wl_linux.c, as the current upstream version
dropped all useful vendor matches in its pci_device_id struct and now has
a broken modalias. Keep a static debian/bcmwl-kernel-source.modaliases
instead which matches on any Broadcom network device (vendor 14E4 class 02
subclass 80). This brings back a proper Modaliases: package header.

[Bug 1090002] [NEW] biosdevname gives name of device as rename7 in Quantal

2012-12-13 Thread Narinder Gupta
Public bug reported:

In Quantal kernel biosdevname feature is not working as it suppose to
be. On hardware we are seeing an issue where few of the network
interface names are named as rename7 etc.. while biosdevname -d utility
provides the correct biosname while kernel name have been messed up.
There are total 16 network interfaces on the server which are ALOMs for
Emulex card connected to system.

It seems this issue is a race condition and will get fixed in Fedora 18.
But having fix in Quantal will help also.

[Bug 741364] Re: libecryptfs_key_mod_openssl.so does not exist in ecryptfs-utils

2012-12-13 Thread Redsandro
PS - I think ecryptfs-manager does exactly that - setting up
passwordless mounting. But the 'kernel keyring' concept of ecryptfs-
manager, as opposed to 'user keyring' scared me away of using it. I want
to keep keys and secrets within my user, not something system-wide. But
I guess terminology on this is not my strongsuit.

[Bug 1090004] [NEW] Error string flickers when mousing around dash

2012-12-13 Thread Michael Terry
Public bug reported:

1) Open the dash
2) Switch to a non-home lens (say, Files or Apps)
3) Search for a nonsense string like lkadjflkajdlfjald
4) Notice the error message Sorry, there are no that match your search
flickers when appearing
5) Now mouse over the other lens icons (but don't click) and notice how the
error message flickers more

In (4) and (5) I would expect the error message to not flicker.
