[Bug 1068994] Re: button1 gets stuck after a while
I got this bug on my laptop running 13.04 (BTW I think bug #946417 is a duplicate of this one). It causes the touchscreen to not work after several clicks. I tried running the X from x-staging PPA (add-apt-repository ...; apt- get update; apt-get dist-upgrade; service lightdm restart). After I login, the screen shows a background for some seconds and then a blank screen. ~/.xsession-errors shows these lines: [several lines about loading/starting plugins...] compiz (core) - Info: Loading plugin: unityshell gnome-session[2238]: WARNING: Child process 2352 was already dead. gnome-session[2238]: WARNING: Application 'compiz.desktop' killed by signal 11 gnome-session[2238]: WARNING: App 'compiz.desktop' respawning too quickly gnome-session[2238]: CRITICAL: We failed, but the fail whale is dead. [Bug 1214562] [NEW] Unable to run VMWare-Player under 3.8.0-29-generic.
Public bug reported: VMWare's VMPlayer 5.0.2. installed on Ubuntu 13.04, running well under 3.8.0-27-generic kernel. Ubuntu's Software Updater runs, installs 3.8.0-29-generic kernel. Trying to run VMPlayer after that, results in information message that modules need to be installed into the new kernel, as always after a kernel update. Allowing the Kernel updates from there, results in the VMWare process/window disappearing. Re-starting VMPlayer repeats the process. VMPlayer never launches successfully. Workaround: 1. Boot into 3.8.0-27-generic. 2. Run the VMWare installer to uninstall vmware-player along with all configuration data. 3. Boot into 3.8.0-29-generic. 4. [Bug 1214564] [NEW] Disappearing mouse cursor after nvidia packages update.
Public bug reported: Hi. After upgrade (Tue Aug 20, 2013) of nVidia related packages such as: nvidia-settings-304, nvidia-current and install nvidia-304 package etc, I noticed that after restart, all system fonts were enlarged - terminal fonts, desktop fonts, windows fonts. Generally everywhere. I had to change size by hand. But there is one more problem: mouse cursor. If the mouse is not in use (I mean e.g. no user reaction) from time to time, mouse cursor is disappearing for a one, two seconds. The same thing happens when I'm moving mouse or when I'm trying to open/close a directory, mark a file by one click or simply - clicking on anything. It is pretty strange and annoying. Before today updates, everything was okay. All installed packages related to nVidia: ,-[ $ dpkg -l | grep nvidia ] | nvidia-304 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3[1] | nvidia-common 1:0.2.44.2 | nvidia-current 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3 | nvidia-settings 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3 | nvidia-settings-304 304.88-0ubuntu0.0.3[1] `- Also, there is no icon for a 'NVIDIA X Server Settings' utility (available via menu). When I'm trying to open this application, there is a message, that I'm not using a 'nvidia' driver and I should run 'nvidia-xconfig' as root and restart X11, which I did, but after X11 restart, everything was so huge. In monitor settings, I could not choose 1024x768 resolution, because there was not such option - only three: 800x600 and lower etc. Earlier, I could open X Server Settings and view/set many options. Honestly, now there is nothing. I had to remove '/etc/X11/xorg.conf' file created by nvidia-xconfig command, change permission ('chmod 755') and name of a 'xorg.conf.backup' file to 'xorg.conf'. After restart, everything seems to return to normal, but still there is a problem with mouse cursor. * Architecture: i386 * DistroRelease: Ubuntu 12.04 (Xubuntu 12.04 variant) * Uname: Linux 3.2.0-52-generic-pae i686 * ApportVersion: 2.0.1-0ubuntu17.4 * NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia * Xorg version: 1:7.6+12ubuntu2 (xserver-xorg) * xserver-xorg-core: 2:1.11.4-0ubuntu10.13 I'm using Xubuntu 12.04.2 LTS. After/during installation there were no need to configure anything related to my nVidia graphics card (GeForce 7100). Everything worked out-of-the-box. Till today. Also during system closing and/or booting, fonts are changed. Now they are... slimmer. There is also problem with X11. After - for example - 30 minutes without any user reaction, monitor goes black. After moving a mouse, Desktop is really horrible. Colors, windows decorations, fonts etc. It looks very, very bad. Generally, after today's upgrades of nVidia packages (and kernel) something is happening with X11. I don't see anything worrying in '/var/log/Xorg.0.log' file. There are three files related to nVidia in /etc/modprobe.d/ directory: 'nvidia-304_hybrid.conf', 'nvidia- current_hybrid.conf' and 'nvidia-graphics-drivers.conf' (which contains e.g. blacklist nouveau, alias nvidia nvidia_304 etc. entries). ,-[ $ lspci | grep VGA ] | 00:10.0 VGA compatible controller: NVIDIA Corporation C73 [GeForce 7100 / nForce 630i] (rev a2) `- ,-[ $ lsb_release -rd ] | Description: Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS | Release: 12.04 `- Best regards. _ [1] I have to notice, that nvidia-304 and nvidia-settings-304 packages are new and were installed during upgrade. Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. [Bug 1214462] Re: Kernel Description doesn't explain its a PAE-Kernel _ since 3.4.0.1.1 _ Linus would not smile _.
This looks lunatic to me: http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/linux-generic-pae (Transitional package - this is a wrapper?) http://packages.ubuntu.com/raring/linux-generic (This contains the PAE- part of the Kernel?) Distributions find their own namings for Kernels (may be o.k. in little variants), but saying the PAE is the Non-PAE is strange thinking (absolutely illogical to me) – a camouflaged PAE-Kernel ) If it's hard to understand: try it the other way around - What if: non- PAE had been kept PAE would have been kicked - same naming? See? Anyway, the -i386 was actually removed from the original Linux-Kernel (I can open new bug on this?): http://www.muktware.com/4967/linux-kills- intels-386-processors#.UMiPlnKMy7J dated 12.12.12 So the newer kernels should probably rather differentiate e.g. into i486/AMD64 than into i386/AMD64 on top. On one old little machine Dell D600 I had no Problems installing a PAE- Kernel, nowadays I need to change the pre-inst. script on every Kernel- Update or install a fake-PAE upstart skript. My old anger came up upon usage of a Live-CD of Elemntary-OS. It refused to start: Use an appropriate Kernel, bla The Machine runs with Mainline Kernel 3.10 PAE. This may thrift away a lot of people from Ubuntu it's derivates. Enough reason to finally start thinking Is it worth a bug report? [Bug 1214608] [NEW] Unnecessary thai-fonts dependency
Public bug reported: Photo batch processor has a dependency of ttf-thai-tlwg which is a meta- package that installs several thai fonts, and refuses to install without them. English only users generally have no need for these thai fonts and I can't find any reason why Phatch would absolutely need them installed to be able to operate. I request that this dependency be removed so that people who do not need them are not forced to install them. 1)$ lsb_release -rd Description:Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS Release:12.04 2)$ apt-cache policy phatch phatch: Installed: (none) Candidate: 0.2.7.1-1 Version table: 0.2.7.1-1 0 500 http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ precise/universe amd64 Packages 3) Expected to happen: Application installs without unneeded thai fonts. 4)What happened instead: Applications installs with unneeded thai fonts and no way to remove them afterwards without also removing Phatch. Additional info: Language fonts should be optional and based on the locale configuration of the user, not on a package requirement. This might be an upstream issue since it seems the problem was already reported and cleared up by the package maintainers for Fedora: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=654867, but it doesn't appear this dependency was removed upstream and so is still included in Ubuntu builds. [Bug 1214623] [NEW] qtcreator uses the old click manifest format which is incompatible with click hooks
Public bug reported: After talking with people on #ubuntu-touch and that their click packages that were created by qtcreator did not work correctly, I examined the manifest noticed that qtcreator is creating the old format of the click manifest which is incompatible with click hooks as defined in click 0.2 and later. The format is documented here: http://bazaar.launchpad.net/~click-hackers/click/trunk/view/head:/doc/hooks.rst https://wiki.ubuntu.com/SecurityTeam/Specifications/ApplicationConfinement/Manifest#Click Specifically, the 'security' section has been removed. In its place is the 'hooks' security with entries for each application shipped by the app and 'apparmor' and 'desktop' hooks specified under it. The apparmor hook specifies a file relative to the toplevel of the package that contains the security manifest json (which is formatted differently than what is currently in qtcreator). What needs to happen is that the security click manifest moved to a new file and that the click manifest needs to reference it. ** Affects: qtcreator (Ubuntu) Importance: Critical Status: New ** Affects: qtcreator (Ubuntu Saucy) Importance: Critical Status: New ** Also affects: qtcreator (Ubuntu Saucy) Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: qtcreator (Ubuntu Saucy) Importance: Undecided = Critical -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to qtcreator in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1214623 Title: qtcreator uses the old click manifest format which is incompatible with click hooks To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtcreator/+bug/1214623/+subscriptions -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
