Hi. What's going on here is that it seems there are cases where on process exit, ld.so will destruct the plugins before it destructs the dlopening library. So it sets m_inited to 0. But as part of its finalizer the library tries to clean up its resources, and dlcloses the plugins. Getting you this crash. From my testing this has been fixed in the saucy version (1.5.0) of qemu. It is fixed by this patch: f1c72795af573b24a7da5eb52375c9aba8a37972 However later in the history this commit was reverted, and again broke this. Michael, Thank you for taking a look at this and creating the new bug for changing the way libvirt virtualizes the hardware clock for Windows vs. Linux. I believe this to be the root cause for the bug defined here because of the way Windows handles DHCP renewals. ===DHCP=== As for DHCP, I am not sure anything is wrong with having a very short DHCP lease time of 120 sec as the default for nova. I was more curious what the reasoning behind this was. My understanding is that the DNSMasq default is 12 hours. I found this message also asking about the nova default - https://lists.launchpad.net/openstack/msg24200.html I also wanted to say that the DHCP lease time of 120 seconds does not really exacerbate the issue as I stated above. In the above example 30 min. 5. When the DHCP expire time is reached Windows releases the IP address and does not try and do a DHCP renewal. From what I can tell this has been in issue in Windows for a very long time and and has not been addressed. In a hardware case this would be a one time problem until the time is updated and a manual DCHP renewal is done. But for unattended virtual machines the issue is much more of a problem. [Bug 1047262] Re: race condition on startup between samba and cups
I tried the reload-smbd job on Precise but it doesn't work. The job is definitely started after cups but the queues still aren't there. Works fine in Quantal. Running 'start smbd; start cups; reload smbd' while the system is running does work, and adding a 'sleep 1' to reload.smbd.conf also works, so I guess having this work properly depends on some other change (in cups, possibly? forking too soon?). I was going to propose an SRU with just the reload-smbd.conf from Quantal but it's looking more complicated than that. I can confirm that I have the same issue and I can reproduce it on a Dell Latitude Laptop running Xubuntu 13.04. Mine occurs every time that I execute airmon-ng start (interface) on any wireless interface. So there definitely seems to be a correlation with the wireless drivers or interfaces. I get a kernel crash, but can partially recover by CTRL+ALT+F1 then switch back to X with ALT+F7. Hi Gerry, your suggested solution wouldn't work for us: we need to decouple the process child-parent relationship from the windows' one. We pop up windows from D-Bus services, and the same process could be serving multiple modal windows on top of different client applications (see also bug #1223881). I also recommend that processes which create windows on top of other processes be never stopped. In fact, I think that the shell should treat them as transparent: when in the task switcher, the user should continue seeing the name of the started application, not of the process who created the topmost window. I really recommend to stick to the Qt API, and if needed protect the API with apparmor. Since apparmor can protect files, and not individual method calls, we could make it so that the QPA (or mir-client) implementation of the reparenting request first attempts to create a file $XDG_RUNTIME_DIR/ubuntu-api/appId/window_reparenting, and protect this path behind an apparmor rule, so that only apps belonging to the window_reparenting policy group can successfully create the file. Or we could simplify things and simply not allow any third-party apps to use the window reparenting feature (in fact, I can hardly think of a case where it would be useful for ordinary apps). I thought I wrote a comment last week about this, but I must have forgotten to hit the post button or something... Anyway, one can get around the no sound card error by reverting the 40_nonlinux.diff patch and using padsp.
