[Bug 1153626] Re: Multiple Interfaces and IPs not detected in AWS VPC

2013-12-07 Thread Alle
Hi Forest,

looking at http://docs.aws.amazon.com/AWSEC2/latest/UserGuide/using-
eni.html#ec2-net-utils

DHCP script
Whenever the network interface receives a new DHCP lease, this script queries
the instance metadata for Elastic IP addresses. For each Elastic IP address, it
adds a rule to the routing policy database to ensure that outbound traffic from
that address uses the correct network interface. It also adds each private IP
address to the network interface as a secondary address.

I think all they do is run a hook script on DHCP lease that configures
the interface. And yes they add multiple ip addresses to the same
interface.

I am looking at some sort of solution because I want to use some
instances as LXC hosts and would love to give each container its own ip.
So I think I will have to go down the route of using subinterfaces.

Will keep tracking this bug

Thank you
Alessandro

[Bug 1258735] Re: package dbconfig-common 1.8.47+nmu1 failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus script post-installation installé a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1

2013-12-07 Thread Paul Gevers
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It seems that you were running at least two install operations at the
same time. I am unsure which package this bug belongs, as I would say
that should not be possible, but it is not a failure of dconfig-common.
Maybe somebody reading this has an idea?

From the DpkgTerminalLog.txt file:

[Bug 1235231] Re: plymouth loses output to /dev/console (such as ci-info: messages)

2013-12-07 Thread Dmitrijs Ledkovs
On a regular trusty laptop with an SSD i did 6 boots (3 reboots and 3 cold
boots), and compared the boot.logs.
My expectation is to have no less than 6 instances of each unique boot
messages, that is not the case:
1 * Starting Bridge socket events into upstart
1 * Starting modem connection manager
1 * Starting Restore Sound Card State
  1 * Starting System V initialisation compatibility
  2 * Starting bluetooth daemon
2 * Starting configure network device
2 * Starting system logging daemon
3 * Starting save kernel messages
3 * Stopping save kernel messages
4 * Starting Bridge file events into upstart
4 * Starting save udev log and update rules
4 * Starting SystemD login management service
4 * Stopping save udev log and update rules
  5 * Starting ACPI daemon
5 * Starting enable remaining boot-time encrypted block devices
5 * Starting Reload cups, upon starting avahi-daemon to make sure remote
queues are populated
5 * Starting Reload cups, upon starting avahi-daemon to make sure remote
queues are populated
5 * Stopping cold plug devices
5 * Stopping log initial device creation

bootlogs attached.

I'm not sure if this is the same or different problem.

[Bug 1058301] Re: [bzr] error when encountering large file

2013-12-07 Thread Kevin Cole
As a temporary work around just manually add

X11/core

to the end of /etc/.bzrignore

Yes?

(On my system, nothing else in /etc comes anywhere near the size of
/etc/X11/core. So, that's likely to be the only file tripping this error
for a while.)

[Bug 1153626] Re: Multiple Interfaces and IPs not detected in AWS VPC

2013-12-07 Thread Alle
Hi,

I have actually adapted the files from the Amazon AMI which are working just
fine.
There is also an ansible file which tells where the files should be dropped.
You might need to adjust a few things but it should all be working

There is only a problem with this bug
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/ifupdown/+bug/1235169) which
has actually been solved and I am waiting for the updated package to be
available. Otherwise the solution for this is to add the interfaces-eth1
configuration into the main /etc/network/interfaces file.

I am not good at packaging stuff so if you think this is useful it would
be great if someone could wrap it up in a nice package. Myself I am ok
with using ansible for now :)

Hope this helps
Regards
Alessandro

[Bug 1244128] Re: usb-modeswitch not run at boot

2013-12-07 Thread Esa Peuha
I noticed that not only booting with the dongle plugged in won't run
usb-modeswitch, but booting with the dongle unplugged and then plugging
it won't run it either. However, in either case, unplugging and re-
plugging the dongle will run usb-modeswitch, and so will executing sudo
udevadm trigger --action=add. So, is the bug in udev, then?

[Bug 1224254] Re: xrandr Xerrors with the nvidia binary drivers (optimus)

Hello Brian

Using the proposed package fixes the XReply bug.

I now experience other bugs from other display related packages. I set
up my display incorrectly at first so they just might be reports of
that. I'll reboot and see if they remain.

Otherwise the theme is correct, the keyboard layout holds and key
combinations work again. Thanks.

[Bug 1258733] Re: Overriden key shortcuts keep resetted after system updates

2013-12-07 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1258733/+editstatus and add the

[Bug 1224254] Re: xrandr Xerrors with the nvidia binary drivers (optimus)

2013-12-07 Thread Paul le Roux
An update:

No other crashes after rebooting.

Booting with a secondary display attached causes it to fail miserably
though. Attaching the display after the xsession is up and running works
as it should. I'll play around with the xorg, conf and see if I can sort
it out. I don't think it has anything to do with this package. (Probably
just a mistake in xorg.conf from my part)

Thanks again.

[Bug 1253913] Re: In Gnome Terminal F10 key not activating menu bar

2013-12-07 Thread Attila Hammer
I think I possible founding what the real problem, very crazy if this is real
true, please confirm my test result in GNOME Shell:
If unity-gtk3-module and unity-gtk2-module installed a system (this is the case
with basic installation), and the actual session is not Unity, the F10 key
press blocking the proper module for example with following apps:
gnome-terminal, Pidgin, Totem.
I don't no what other applications are affected, I found this applications
already this issue.
I removed this two packages with sudo apt-get purge unity-gtk3-module
unity-gtk2-module command.
After the packages removed and I logout and log in again, the F10 key press
again presenting main menu with gnome-terminal, Totem, Pidgin applications.
How can possible fixing this issue without lost functionality in Unity
environment, but other sessions works right the F10 key with all applications
without need defining blacklist scheme and adding all affected applications?
I no, Ubuntu default session is Unity, but I think need fixing this issue to
all other sessions works right the F10 key press with other sessions.
This bug affecting bigger for example visually impaired users with have
possibility only to use keyboard and screen reader.

Attila

[Bug 1256832] Re: Canon Selphy CP510 not recognised by CUPS

2013-12-07 Thread dr
I found a long discussion on one website, that gutenprint hat developed
an better backend for the canon Selphy printer. There for CUPS may not
include a backend for that printers.

http://gutenprint.996281.n3.nabble.com/Updated-spooler-for-Canon-Selphy-
dye-sub-printers-td6198.html

And indeed, I found an entrance in cups-1.7.0 source code which says it
is blacklist:

# Canon SELPHY CP510
0x04a9 0x3128 blacklist

But the manual of gutenprint says:
“Gutenprint 5.2 no longer provides the epson and canon back ends provided by
earlier releases of Gutenprint to return printer status information. Instead,
the standard back ends (such
as the usb backend) should be used.”

Hey folks, does this mean we now have no backend for canon Selphy
printers at all?

I only have the wish to print some picture-cards for my family.:-(

[Bug 968533] Re: Alt-tab to Firefox sends Firefox to 100% CPU; unity-panel-service to 80% CPU and hud-service to 20-80% CPU

2013-12-07 Thread Xavier Robin
@pieleric: I confirm it has gotten worse in 13.10.
The BookmarkMenuHider didn't do anything for me, probably because most of my
bookmarks are sorted and thus still in the menu. after installing the addon.
The ui.use_unity_menubar trick did it, but I agree it is a pity it also
disables HUD completely. Ideally the bookmarks should not be exposed to HUD, as
they are already accessible through Firefox address bar (Ctrl+L).

@holocronweaver: this looks essentially like the same bug, why create a
new one that is going to be closed as duplicate?

[Bug 862430] Re: window flicker for a short time after switching workspaces

2013-12-07 Thread msth67
It works for me too:now cube is back,I just followed the instructions, dropped
libcube.so in ~/.compiz-1/plugins,logged out and then in again, and it
works-with just the slightest hint of flicker maybe, but it could be my ATI card
as well,or the AMD proprietary driver, who knows.
Thanks a lot Doug:another great fix, some people may say Compiz is dead but IMHO
it still is the nicest window manager around.

[Bug 1254319] Re: Black screen instead of login screen; input works

2013-12-07 Thread Jani Uusitalo
I've made some progress. By setting up an xorg.conf with a modeline for
the external display, I got graphics on the (lightdm) login screen to
show up on it. But the login input fields weren't on this screen (it was
just the background), so this was further evidence that there's monitor
misdetection going on (greeter/lightdm happily thinks it's displaying
the input fields on the broken internal LCD).

So I further tweaked xorg.conf to force X to ignore the internal
display, and now I've got a working login screen back on the external
display. I'll attach my xorg.conf below; it is a satisfactory
workaround.

[Bug 1258744] [NEW] Blink segfault when initializing gcry_control

2013-12-07 Thread Christian Jensen
Public bug reported:

It appears that there has been a long standing bug that was causing
Blink to segfault and a patch was made.

It now seems that that patch has been removed on Precise.

I have just installed a fresh Precise x64, updated everything and
installed Blink - bang segfault

So I downloaded the source and debugged it to the same conclusion as the
previous people - downgrading libgcrypt11 worked but then I went a
little further.

I changed

gcry_control(GCRYCTL_SET_THREAD_CBS, c_void_p(gcrypt_thread_callbacks_ptr))
if system == 'cygwin':

to:

gcry_control(GCRYCTL_SET_THREAD_CBS, c_void_p(gcrypt_thread_callbacks_ptr))
libgnutls.gcry_check_version('1.2.4') # GNUTLS_MIN_LIBGCRYPT_VERSION
if system == 'cygwin':

and Blink works again - apparently that line has been removed in 1.2.4

Simply adding the line:

libgnutls.gcry_check_version('1.2.4')

to the file

/usr/share/pyshared/gnutls/library/__init__.py

made it all work again.

Was that removed recently?

Thank you
Alessandro

[Bug 1009312] Re: 10de:0426 GPU loads unreliably, possible kernel timeout

2013-12-07 Thread Kyle Auble
So after another couple of months, I've managed to do more testing, and
I may have found something useful. First off, two fresh, stable versions
of the Ubuntu kernel have shown the bug: v3.2.0-56 (64-bit) and
v3.5.0-44 (32-bit). Also, the most recent package from the Ubuntu
mainline kernel PPA, v3.13.0-rc3 (built Dec. 6), showed the bug and
failed to boot. I confirmed the bug by looking at the old dmesg log
after rebooting into a working kernel.

On the positive side, after a little more free-time and thinking about
the problem, I can give you a commit that may be canceling out the
effect from Xiao Guangrong's earlier patch. Instead of using git-bisect,
I narrowed down the problem to a small range from previous tests, then
manually checked the merges in the mainline kernel's history. After
tracing the regression to a simple merge, I rebased the short side
branch leading to it onto the preceding, bug-free commit. I don't know
if this method would give false results, but I figured since the merge
itself involved no extra changes and the rebase didn't cause any
conflicts, it should be useful.

The patch where the bug reappeared for me was:
ee8209fd026b074bb8eb75bece516a338a281b1b by Andy Shevchenko

Hope this helps some, and let me know if there's anything else I could
try.

[Bug 1258752] [NEW] Gnome-screensaver does not unlock computer on Saucy

2013-12-07 Thread Norbert
Public bug reported:

I have Ubuntu 13.10 with all updates (normal and -proposed).
I have two keyboard layouts - Russian and English.
Before screen locking (with Ctrl+Alt+L) I have English layout.

After activating gnome-screensaver I can't unlock my laptop. Gnome-
screensaver is running, showed me my username and text field for
password (there is En in right of it - so English layout is selected),
I enter my password (without errors with Caps Lock off), but gnome-
screensaver does not unlock screen and asks me for enter password again.

It seems that gnome-screensaver can't unlock my system.
I can get access to desktop only from another terminal (Ctrl+Alt+F1) by
restaring XServer with sudo service lightdm restart.

[Bug 1255473] Re: Keyboard navigation of menus not working correctly

2013-12-07 Thread Graham Inggs
** Description changed:

- Motif 2.3.4 includes a fix for upstream bug #1565 (The active window
- changes to inactive when the drop down list is clicked) [1]. A side-
- effect of this fix is that keyboard navigation of menus does not work
- correctly.
+ [Impact]
+ Keyboard navigation of menus in applications built against Motif 2.3.4 is
broken.
+ This is a regression for applications that were previously built against
Lesstif but have been built against Motif in Saucy, see the transition bug LP:
#1222747. The fix is an updated patch for upstream bug #1565 [1], provided by
upstream.

- Steps to reproduce:
+ [Test Case]
Install and run xball (or any other Motif application with a menu bar).
Click on 'File' in the menu bar (or press Alt-F).
- Now press Left Arrow or Right Arrow and the highlight should move left and
right through the horizontal menu options (File, Actions, Options and Help).
- Now press Up Arrow, Down Arrow or Enter and nothing happens.
+ Now press Left Arrow or Right Arrow and the highlight should move left and
right through the horizontal menu options (File, Actions, Options and Help).
+ Now press Up Arrow, Down Arrow or Enter and nothing happens, the expect
behaviour is that the highlight should move through the vertical menu options
and the option be actioned.
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ This patch affects the operation of ComboBox, PopupMenu, OptionMenu and
DropDownList widgets in applications built against Motif.
+ The behaviour of the original bug #1565 and previous versions of the patch to
fix it were different on different display managers / window managers. I have
successfully tested the current patch in Unity, MWM, XFCE, FluxBox, LXDE,
GNOME, KDE and Openbox.
+
+ In this SRU, I would like to include fixes for two additional bugs:
+ - the undefined use of sprintf in lib/Xm/XmRenderT.c where the source and
destination buffers overlap (upstream bug #1628 [2])
+ - an array bounds error in lib/Xm/DataF.c where _XmDataFieldIsWSpace() is
called with num_entries = 3 (upstream bug #1629 [3])
+ I believe the fixes for these are trivial and the regression potential for
them is low.

[Bug 1210077] Re: Screen freeze and gabled after resume from suspend

2013-12-07 Thread Lauri Siltala
I have this bug as well with a geforce GT 640M. To answer that question,
it happens to me on both KDE (with compositing) and LXDE (no
compositing) so compositing does not appear to matter.

Also, for me, kernel 3.9 works fine; the issue only appears on newer
ones than that.

Another report of what looks like the same bug:

[Bug 1258715] Re: Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

2013-12-07 Thread Bernardo Ramos
I switched among many distributions in a quest for a good experience in this
machine. Some did not even boot the system. Ubuntu 12.04 ans 13.10 among them.
Mint 15, Zorin 7, openSuse 13.1 and Xubuntu 12.04.3 worked fine. These latest
two did better than the others.
Due to an abbudance of information in Ubuntu Community and personal
difficulties I move to Xubuntu.
However IN THIS PERIOD I waked Avell about a Bios update and They said between
20 and 25th of November 2013 this machine already has the latest bios available
(American Megatrends something).
On the other hand, the Clevo site you mentioned above says: Use it at your own
risk.
As I stil have 3 years of warranty ahead, I'm sorry but I'd go back to openSuse
or even go to W8.1 than installing even trying that.
There might be another way to solve this or keeping tis info out of the problem
scope.
Thanks in advance for your efforts and comprehension.

[Bug 1258760] [NEW] Unable to resize iptux window

2013-12-07 Thread Harsh Dhulia
Public bug reported:

When iptux is started for the first time after installing its window is
sized correctly. But if the iptux window is resized by dragging one of
the window edges (e.g. right border), it automatically collapses to the
minimum size. After every resize attempt, the iptux window automatically
resizes to the minimum possible size and stays like that. Check attached
screenshot.

This is with iptux 0.5.3 on Ubuntu 13.04.

** Affects: iptux (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New

[Bug 947664] Re: Unpacking linux-headers unbelievably slow in Lubuntu Precise (Beta 1)

2013-12-07 Thread Fake Name
I can also confirm this issue.

I'm running vanilla Ubuntu Server 12.03 LTS in a Hyper-V VM.

durr@monsrv:~$ uname -a

It's been running for at least 15 minutes so far with no end in sight.

It's worth noting that I have no idea what the hold-up is. `iotop` isn't
showing any meaningful disk-activity, and the CPU isn't loaded at all.

Jeff Marcom, as per http://download.lenovo.com/express/ddfm.html an update is
available for your BIOS (2.53). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it

Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so

[Bug 1258715] Re: Waking up from suspension freezes up the system

2013-12-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Bernardo Ramos, thanks for checking in with Avell on the BIOS update.

Hence, could you please test the latest upstream kernel available (not the
daily folder) following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelMainlineBuilds ? It will
allow additional upstream developers to examine the issue. Once you've tested
the upstream kernel, please comment on which kernel version specifically you
tested. If this bug is fixed in the mainline kernel, please add the following
tags:
kernel-fixed-upstream
kernel-fixed-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

where VERSION-NUMBER is the version number of the kernel you tested. For
example:
kernel-fixed-upstream-v3.3.13-rc3

This can be done by clicking on the yellow circle with a black pencil icon next
to the word Tags located at the bottom of the bug description. As well, please
remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

If the mainline kernel does not fix this bug, please add the following tags:
kernel-bug-exists-upstream
kernel-bug-exists-upstream-VERSION-NUMBER

As well, please remove the tag:
needs-upstream-testing

Once testing of the upstream kernel is complete, please mark this bug's
Status as Confirmed. Please let us know your results. Thank you for your
understanding.

[Bug 1249047] Re: Chromium profile get corrupted when logged in Google cloud print service

2013-12-07 Thread Santiago Ward
I confirm the bug. It seems the problem is that Chromium generates 2
autostarted instances:
/usr/bin/chromium-browser --no-startup-window (generated when you enable
Continue running background apps when Google Chrome is closed)
/usr/lib/chromium-browser/chromium-browser --type=service (generated when you
enable cloud print)

Disabling any of these options fixes the bug. Removing any of the
launchers from autostart prevents the bug from occurring, but chromium
will recreate them next time it's opened.

Maybe somebody reading this has an idea?

[Bug 1093541] Re: ACPI Error: Method parse/execution failed

2013-12-07 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
DrJohn, as per http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/P8Z77V_LK/#support an update is
available for your BIOS (1301). If you update to this following
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BiosUpdate , does it change anything? If it
doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of
the following terminal command:
sudo dmidecode -s bios-version sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1164016] Re: restore type-ahead find

2013-12-07 Thread Adam Dingle
@Daniel: Thanks for the additional hints. Actually I found an easier
way to build from your branch:

$ dh_autoreconf
$ ./configure --disable-tracker
$ make

That avoids the zeitgeist.h and gtk-doc errors, and allows me to simply
'make install' without having to generate a Debian package.

So great - I was able to try out your changes. This looks quite
promising. A few issues:

- It looks like you branched from lp:ubuntu/saucy/nautilus, but I think
you should branch from the newer lp:ubuntu/trusty/nautilus:

  https://code.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-branches/ubuntu/trusty/nautilus/trusty

- Type a few characters of a filename, then click on a different file. The
text box with the characters you typed remains open. Instead, it should
vanish, just like in Nautilus 3.4.

- Type a few characters of a filename, then move the Nautilus window.
The text box with the characters you typed remains open, and will not
move with the window. Instead, it should vanish in this situation, just
like in Nautilus 3.4.

- Select the first file in a directory, press the down arrow once, then
type the first character of a filename. Notice that a secondary
selection rectangle remains around the previously selected file. If you
press Escape to exit the search, the secondary selection remains, and if
you then press the down arrow Nautilus navigates to the file following
it. Instead, as soon as the search begins the secondary selection
should vanish, just like in Nautilus 3.4.

- When I select any file or directory in Nautilus, a yellow tooltip-like
rectangle appears in the lower right of the window with text descibing
my selection, such as

  scout.png selected (969.6 kB)

With your changes, the characters you type appear in a text box on top of
this rectangle, which doesn't look great. In Nautilus 3.4, this text box
appeared just below the Nautilus window when possible, which looked better.
