I'll take the system-settings side of this. I'll create the AS schema
and have it sync the values from GSettings to there initially. When
telephony-service switches over to using AS then we can drop the syncing

Does synaptic 0.75.12 have gtk2 dependencies? This would perhaps explain
why it isn't affected. The core problem seems to be in GTK-3, synaptic

Hi,
After upgrading to 13.10, I had to apply the same fix again.
I am still not convinced this is the right way of fixing the problem,
since LibreOffice should use locks when accessing files over NFS.
I guess the question is more to understand who is guilty?

- my

I wonder, if the power manager could override the screen saver timeout. It
could change the X setting, but I think it is better to change the setting by
xset s off during session startup (i.e. as part of autostarted applications).
I still wonder where and why is that default 600 sec timeout set?
I have read in the following duplicate thread that the problem is due because
synaptic calls gtk_tree_view_set_model of gtk-3.
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/onboard/+bug/1264315
This probably also explains why the problem does not occur in synaptic
0.75: it still uses gtk2.
