[Bug 1266677] [NEW] Doesn't parse cpu model for arm64

2014-01-07 Thread Ming Lei

The upstream qemu[1] needs to pass '-cpu host' for aarch64, but current libvirt

support to parse the parameter for aarch64, so we can see below failure when

[Bug 1266683] [NEW] Samba cannot connect to shared folders in nautilus

2014-01-07 Thread Tommy_CZ
Public bug reported:

Hi, whenever I open Windows network in nautilus, I can see domains.
When I click on domain, it says I could not get sharing list from
server - translated ;).

But when I use option in nautilus - connect to server and choose
windows sharing type, write name of server, domain, username and
password to dialog, it works and connects me into windows shared folder.

I think it is a bug.

[Bug 1266684] [NEW] Samba cannot show windows sharing domains by default in nautilus

2014-01-07 Thread Tommy_CZ
Public bug reported:

Hi, after installation of Ubuntu, i tried to connect to windows sharing network.
I clicked on windows networks in nautilus, it did not show me any domains.
After I enabled sharing of MY folder in MY computer (and after ubuntu
automatically installed samba package and one other package, Nautilus started
to show domain of network I tried to connect in Windows networks.

It is a bug - it should warn about needed packages, or it should be able
to show domains without them, but in this situation, Nautilus and samba
pretends there are no windows shared domains.

Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make

From your description, it sounds like this problem happens in nautilus
when samba isn't even installed, so this sounds like a problem that can
only be fixed in nautilus.

[Bug 1266683] Re: Samba cannot connect to shared folders in nautilus

2014-01-07 Thread Robie Basak
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

It could be that samba doesn't have permission to browse the list of
servers under a particular domain here, or is otherwise somehow failing
to enumerate the available servers under a domain.

It isn't clear to me what nautilus is doing to get the browse list from
samba.

To make progress on this bug from the perspective of the samba package,
I think we need:

1. A description of how to reproduce samba failing to get the list of
servers and/or shares, directly from samba in the way that Nautilus does
it that is failing.

2. Somebody who understands this area better to confirm that browsing
domains in your configuration is expected to work, based on how Windows
networking works, rather than this being fundamentally not possible (in
case that is the reason why samba cannot do it).

[Bug 1266749] Re: openvswitch-datapath-dkms fails to build with 3.13 kernel

2014-01-07 Thread James Page
jamespage apw, the 3.13 changes for openvswitch look a bit terrifying and are
definately beyond my capability to fixup in openvswitch
I'm going to punt this upstream and disable the DKMS package for the time being
apw jamespage, do we lose anything significant by doing so, you mentioned a
feature
jamespage apw, just support for LISP based tunnelling which is pretty
experimental
apw jamespage, so not the end if the world i hope then
jamespage apw, not at all - the 'supported' tunnelling mechanisms for
openstack are GRE and VXLAN
both are support directly by the in-tree kernel module now
apw ok good

[Bug 1123220] Re: cloud-image VM causes kernel panic if image is resized

2014-01-07 Thread Scott Moser
** Also affects: cloud-init (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: cloud-init (Ubuntu)
   Status: New = Triaged

** Changed in: cloud-init (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided = Low

** Description changed:

I'd very much like to use the official cloud images from cloud-
images.ubuntu.com on the Brightbox cloud, but I can never get them to
  boot properly in KVM.

If the disk is resized then the VM always crashes with a kernel panic.

  Process is as follows:

On a Precise Host running libvirt.

  - wget
http://cloud-images.ubuntu.com/quantal/current/quantal-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img
  - sudo cp quantal-server-cloudimg-amd64-disk1.img
/var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img
  - sudo qemu-img resize /var/lib/libvirt/images/test.img 20G
  - virsh create test.xml

If you view the console in virt-manager you'll find that the kernel has
panicked on the disk remount after resizing.

Issuing a 'virsh reset srv-7867c' causes the boot to progress normally.
Similarly if the disk isn't resized the boot progresses normally.

You get the same problem with:

  - all the standard images - with varying degrees of feedback in the failure
message.
  - using the RHEL6 version of libvirt and kvm
  - if you remove the virtio from the disk stanza and replace with ide
emulation.

  Any ideas?

[Bug 1264910] Re: Tmux backend can't handle spaces in window name

2014-01-07 Thread Dustin Kirkland 
If you're going to use 'ctrl-a A' to rename your window, you'll need to
enclose it in double quotes, foo bar.

If you use Byobu's hotkey (F8) for rename-window, you don't need to
enclose it in quotes.

[Bug 1266808] [NEW] No mechanism to wait until a started container is ready and has finished booting

2014-01-07 Thread Robie Basak
Public bug reported:

If I script a container start, I also want to script a wait until the
container has finished booting. Otherwise I start using the container,
write to /tmp, and then /tmp gets cleaned. I'm sure there are more race
conditions, too.

It would be nice if lxc-wait could be extended to support some mechanism
to detect this, or if not lxc-wait then some other generic mechanism
that templates could then support.

cloud-init writes a boot-finished flag which could be used on
systems/templates that use cloud-init.

Also see cloud-init bug 1258113.

[Bug 1247803] Re: dnsmasq temporarily breaks DNS resolution when starting for the first time

2014-01-07 Thread Philip Potter
Thanks for your reply, Thomas. I now agree that it is the maintainer's
choice as to which of the proposed implementations should be used. I've
made a separate branch with the more complex conditional and attached it
to this ticket.

What's the next step? I'm new to the whole ubuntu package maintenance
process. I see Simon Kelley is listed as the maintainer -- is it up to
him to choose one of the proposed solutions?

Also, I've based my patches off of the precise branch, because that's
the distro I use most frequently. Is that sensible? Should I have based
it off of trusty instead and backported later? Should I attach a patch
file instead?

[Bug 1102366] Re: libapache2-mod-php5: Segmentation fault on mediawiki POST requests after apache2 reload

2014-01-07 Thread Marc Deslauriers
Uploaded to quantal for processing by the SRU team. Thanks!

** Description changed:

+ SRU request:
+
+ [impact]
+ Reloading apache2 will cause php5 to fail to work correctly, and will result
in some website failures. This has been solved by backporting a minimal patch
from more recent versions of php.
+
+ [test case]
+ Reproducing this requires a specific setup, but the original bug reporter has
tested the update and it has resolved the issue. The issue was also known to
php upstream and has been fixed in saucy and higher.
+
+ [regression potential]
+ An issue with this patch would cause php sessions to break, so it should be
quickly discoverable.
+
+
+ Original report:
+
This is the affected following setup:
  * apache2-mpm-worker
  * libapache2-mod-php5
  * mediawiki
(all from quantal in my case).

After doing /etc/init.d/apache2 reload, POST requests to mediawiki (e.g.
page preview or save) fail with a lost connection. The log files only show a
line like this:
[Mon Jan 21 12:21:06 2013] [notice] child pid 16018 exit signal Segmentation
fault (11)

Doing /etc/init.d/apache2 restart works around the problem.

This seems to be the same as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
  bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=691318 and possibly http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=694473 . I'm blaming PHP for now, in accordance
  with the upstream reporters. :-)

Creating a backtrace from the apache child processes has proved quite
  challenging, so I'm stopping here.

  Thank you for your consideration,
- Philipp

Ok so the problem is that Linux changed the prototype of

So we just need to check if the kernel version has this header and switch
accordingly. The version I have above isn't exactly correct since there are
differences between linux upstream and stable.

[Bug 1257857] Re: cgroup-lite fails to install in container in precise

2014-01-07 Thread Serge Hallyn
The whitespace fix has been queued for a hopefully quick SRU - however
for you to hit this means you'll likely still have a (unfathomable to
me) case where /bin/cgroups-mount is returning an error. If/when that
happens, please do open a new bug.

[Bug 1262214] Re: [MIR] ply, python-jsonpath-rw

2014-01-07 Thread Michael Terry
The way you've implemented test running in ply's debian/rules won't
work. When you group multiple commands with a line-continuing
backslash, only the last command run will be used to determine if the
whole thing worked. You need to insert a set -e at the front like so:

set -e; for pyver in $(PYVERSIONS) $(PY3VERSIONS); do \

[Bug 1266840] [NEW] maas-dns failed to install completely on Trusty

2014-01-07 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

Installed maas packages on a fresh trusty install like so:

$ sudo apt-get install maas maas-region-controller maas-cluster-
controller maas-dhcp maas-dns

Installation proceeded successfully until maas-dns. maas-dns errored

After apt-get exited, I re-ran the comand and this time the

exited, but there was a failure when trying to restart bind9:

 Bug description:
   SRU request:

   [impact]
Reloading apache2 will cause php5 to fail to work correctly, and will
result in some website failures. This has been solved by backporting a
minimal patch from more recent versions of php.

   [test case]
Reproducing this requires a specific setup, but the original bug
reporter has tested the update and it has resolved the issue. The issue was
also known to php upstream and has been fixed in saucy and higher.

   [regression potential]
An issue with this patch would cause php sessions to break, so it should
 be quickly discoverable.

   Original report:

This is the affected following setup:
   * apache2-mpm-worker
   * libapache2-mod-php5
   * mediawiki
(all from quantal in my case).

After doing /etc/init.d/apache2 reload, POST requests to mediawiki
(e.g. page preview or save) fail with a lost connection. The log files only
 show a line like this:
[Mon Jan 21 12:21:06 2013] [notice] child pid 16018 exit signal
 Segmentation fault (11)

Doing /etc/init.d/apache2 restart works around the problem.

This seems to be the same as http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
   bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=691318 and possibly http://bugs.debian.org/cgi-
bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=694473 . I'm blaming PHP for now, in accordance
   with the upstream reporters. :-)

Creating a backtrace from the apache child processes has proved quite
   challenging, so I'm stopping here.

   Thank you for your consideration,
 Philipp

[Bug 1240054] Re: ec2-facts not shown when running in AWS VPC

2014-01-07 Thread Scott Moser
Hi,
You reported this against 12.04. Could you please test with the development
release (14.04/trusty) and see if it is fixed ? The upstream issue you've
pointed to is marked as fixed. The latest upstream is 1.7.4 [1] and trusty has
version has 1.7.2 [2], but It seems like even 1.7.4 might not have that fix.

Can you verify the problem still exists on trusty? It seems to me to still be
broken based on running:
  $ facter | grep ec2
when inside a vpc, nothing is shown. On a non-vpc instance, there is data
found.

Do you know if it is fixed in any released version of facter?

[Bug 1266893] [NEW] unable to complete getting the ephemeral images

2014-01-07 Thread Jeff Lane
Public bug reported:

My setup:
Trusty on an IBM Thinkpad x201.
Onboard Gigabit is static on 10.0.0.0 (The private MAAS lan)
Internet connectivity is via an 802.11n WiFi dongle
My internet connection is a 10Mbit ADSL line

I have installed and configured maas. The next step, per the
instructions here:

maas.ubuntu.com/docs/instal.html#import-the-boot-images

is this:

$ maas-cli maas nde-groups import-boot-images

While doing this, I observed that it first called maas-import-pxe-files
which ran to completion pulling all the PXE files and putting them in
/var/lib/maas/tftp/*

Next, it calls maas-import-ephemerals

This ran and did NOTHING. It just sat there, no network traffic in or
out, no disk activity, no data written to /var/lib/maas/ephemeral. I
left it sitting for over an hour and it never actually started
downloading any images .

I finally killed off the process and ran maas-import-ephemerals
manually. This time, it did begin downloading images, converting them
and copying them to /var/lib/maas/ephemerals. But then it just stopped
as though it had lost the connection th wherever it's downloading from,
or something. It never exited, it just ... paused and never restarted.
I let THIS sit for an hour and noticed that there was absolutely NO
further related network activity, disk activity or aything.

So I finally killed that process off as well.

Next, I tried breaking it down into smaller chunks like so:

$ sudo maas-import-ephemerals release=RELEASE

Doing it this way, I was able to fully download Saucy, Raring, Quantal
and Precise. Currently, trying with trusty does nothing (it doesn't
seem to do anything at all.

[Bug 1266898] [NEW] euca-get-console-output fails if output not to a console [error: decode() argument 1 must be string, not None]

2014-01-07 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

Filed upstream as https://eucalyptus.atlassian.net/browse/TOOLS-407

If i redirect stdout of euca-get-console-output to a file or to a pipe, it
fails with:
euca-get-console-output: error: decode() argument 1 must be string, not None

This is terribly unhelpful, as if I'm looking for console output, I most
likely want to do something other than just read it manually (ie, search
it or grep it).

Re: [Bug 1263738] Re: login console 0 in user namespace container is not configured right

Quoting Joseph Salisbury (joseph.salisb...@canonical.com):
One additional question, do you happen to know if this is a regression?
Did this not happen with previous releases/kernels?

This is not a regression, it has never worked right.

We believe the problem is that if a task is !dumpable, then the kernel
marks some of its /proc/pid files as owned by the global host root,
which is not mapped into a user namespace. If that is the case, then
the question is whether it is safe to mark them owned by the container
root; or whether we can distinguish between tasks which became dumpable
before switching namespaces; or whether there is something else we can
do.

I think the loop that is walking the partitions in ./disk-utils/partx.c for

I seem to only be able to use partx if the partition provided to partx (via

[Bug 1184451] Re: Ubuntu 13.10 random screen freeze while Normal OS activites

2014-01-07 Thread Hannes Erven
For me this is still an issue (on the stable 13.10), but (un)fortunately
I have no idea how to reproduce it or what factors (do not) contribute
to it.

So far, I seem to have found:
- the version of nvidia-drivers or the use of nouveau is irrelevant
- in Gnome, I have the impression that a freeze is much more likely when using
multiple workspaces
- it seems to happen very much less frequently when using Unity than with Gnome
sessions (but I probably don't use the workspaces in Unity as much as in Gnome)

Currently, I experience a freeze in Gnome-Shell within 1-3 hours after
startup/reboot. I will happily grab the daily snapshot and see if it
still happens there and then upload the apport-collect data.

[Bug 1166411] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in amd_xs113_int10_x_inb()

2014-01-07 Thread Václav Zeman
I have stopped using the AMD driver and I am using the free driver now.
I have not seen this for a long time now even before I have changed the
driver. I think it might have been fixed or masked after the initial
unstability after Ubuntu upgrade.

Subject: [Bug 1048874] Re: Xorg crashed with SIGABRT in __libc_message()
loading modesetting module - corrupted double-linked list
Date: Tue, Jan 7, 2014 03:14

Adam Bruce, this bug was reported a while ago and there hasn't been any
activity in it recently. We were wondering if this is still an issue? If
so, could you please test for this with the latest development release
of Ubuntu? ISO images are available from http://cdimage.ubuntu.com
/daily-live/current/ .

If it remains an issue, could you please run the following command in
the development release from a Terminal
(Applications-Accessories-Terminal), as it will automatically gather
and attach updated debug information to this report:

apport-collect -p xorg-server REPLACE-WITH-BUG-NUMBER

Please note, given that the information from the prior release is
already available, doing this on a release prior to the development one
would not be helpful.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1266672] [NEW] Wrong key input after boot, although right language set

2014-01-07 Thread trikrasne
Public bug reported:

Ever since the 13.10 Ubuntu upgrade I have this problem when I boot to
my computer: although Slovenian input is set on login screen the
keyboard is actually US. If I go to the keyboard settings I only see
that the right (Slovenian) language is set.

I can get back to my keyboard if I click 'lock/switch' account, and then
click the 'Switch user' button to login to my account again. After that
Slovenian keyboard is back.

This problem doesn't appear on every (re)boot, but mostly (some 80%).
