With Ubuntu 13.10 (3.11.0-15-generic) on a Lenovo T420 I encountered the
same problem. Booting behaviour was erratic, it succeeded roughly every
second or third time. The suggested workaround (kernel parameter

I have had the same issues, but I must say that lately (I do not know
when exactly) I did not experience this issue anymore... So maybe it got
fixed at some point?
