Further testing reveals that right-click works in some Firefox windows,
but not others, similar to the problem with gestures (work in some
windows, not others).
When it does work, tab history appears to be intact. Back and forward
arrow movement through tab history works OK and history appears

Plugging in the HDMI cable changes nothing. There are no dmesg events
either. I would try to rule out a hardware failure on my laptop but it
seems the HDMI-0 port is recognized still.

mysql-workbench was crashing randomly, so i removed and reinstalled it.
installation fail (see below) output so I removed this and installed the
later version from mysql.com. command output:
