[Bug 1287147] [NEW] [FFe] juju-core 1.18/2.0
Public bug reported: Ubuntu Trusty has been tracking the 1.17.x interim development release series of Juju; this series does not guarantee backwards compatibility but has allowed us to track new features and enable new architectures such as ppc64el and arm64. The Juju Core team will be releasing 1.18.0 (or 2.0 - version to be determined) either this week or next which is the next stable series of Juju; the juju command lines tools should also have backwards compatibility back to 1.16.x supporting upgrades for older deployments. In addition, the 1.18.0 release will also introduce the following essential release features for 14.04: 1) HA of Juju state nodes 2) Full support for ppc64el and arm64 ** Affects: juju-core (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to juju-core in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287147 Title: [FFe] juju-core 1.18/2.0 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/juju-core/+bug/1287147/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

Hi, from your DpkgTerminalLog.txt: Starting amavisd: The value of variable $myhostname is Big-Steve, but should have been a fully qualified domain name; perhaps uname(3) did not provide such. You must explicitly assign a FQDN of this host to variable $myhostname in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id, or fix what uname(3) provides as a host's network name! (failed). Please change in /etc/amavis/conf.d/05-node_id the $myhostname or change /etc/hosts to the FQDN of your host Jörg ** Changed in: amavisd-new (Ubuntu) Status: New = Invalid -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to amavisd-new in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287111 Title: package amavisd-new-postfix 1:2.7.1-2ubuntu3 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/amavisd-new/+bug/1287111/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

The end result will allow users of maas to utilize the hardware enablement kernels for each of In order to support the HardwareEnablementStack effort, MAAS needs to allow the user to be able to Enlist, Commission, and Deploy systems with an HWE kernels. For development and support purposes it also needs to allow site-customized kernels to be used. This is essential when bringing up new hardwa re that isn't fully supported in Ubuntu. The general plan is to enhance the simple streams data that is available on maas.ubuntu.com/images to list HWE kernels and also make it better able to describe what subarch are supported by a given kernel. We also plan to make fat initramfs available to support booting a single ephemeral image with multiple different kernels. This is necessary because keeping a 1:1 relationship of kernel to ephemeral image is not supporatable given the download size. This is the reason for the cloud-initramfs-tools task. The MAAS team will work in conjuction with Ubuntu teams and other Canonical teams to bring these features in. + + See bug 1281881 for MAAS FFe -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1281765 Title: FFE: maas support for hardware enabement kernels (HWE) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-initramfs-tools/+bug/1281765/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs
[Bug 1281881] Re: [FFe] Standing FFe for 14.04 features
** Summary changed: - FFE: 14.04 features + [FFe] Standing FFe for 14.04 features ** Description changed: MAAS requires the following features to land after the Feature Freeze: - * support for third party hardware drivers - * support for tracking which NICs on each node are associated with a particular network + * support for third party hardware drivers + * support for tracking which NICs on each node are associated with a particular network + * support for ppc64el + * support for UEFI + * Support for Other Hardware Devices. Third party hardware drivers [Description] This is related to bug 1281765 and forms the infrastructure to enable hardware enablement teams to write drivers for hardware not already supported in MAAS. This is essential work to prevent these teams from blocking on the core MAAS development team, and to make writing new drivers an order of magnitude quicker and easier. [Proposed Changes] The feature is already half implemented; bi-directional comms between clusters and the region controller is now established but further work is required to add an API layer between these comms and the driver code. The API layer will translate the various requirements that a driver should provide into calls to the region, and vice versa. Additionally, all current code that is part of hardware enablement, such as architecture types and power parameter choices, will be moved into new driver code that will become part of each cluster controller. NIC tracking [Description] A feature is already landed to support network tracking on Nodes that MAAS manages. This needs to be extended to track on which NIC the network is available. This is essential otherwise the existing work is of no use to API clients if they cannot know on which NIC the network is to be used. [Proposed changes] The database will gain a link table between MACAddress and Network, and the UI will change so that it lets the user link networks against MACs on the node rather than the node as a whole. API calls will also change accordingly. ** Description changed: + [Rationale] MAAS requires the following features to land after the Feature Freeze: * support for third party hardware drivers * support for tracking which NICs on each node are associated with a particular network - * support for ppc64el - * support for UEFI - * Support for Other Hardware Devices. + * support for ppc64el + * support for UEFI + * Support for Other Hardware Devices. + + For this reason, we are requesting an *Standing* Feature Freeze + Exception for MAAS' features described above. [Bug 1272011] Re: MAAS installer doesn't prompt for superuser password and email
I'm confirming this bug. The work flow here is a little silly, in my opinion. The MAAS superuser name could and should easily be hardcoded to a common username. This would be particularly handy in documentation. The initial password should be randomly generated, and easily reset-able by the local system root user. An email address should be obtained, and used to let the superuser change their initial, randomly generated password. We can do a LOT better here, and telling the user to create the super user ;-) ** Changed in: maas (Ubuntu) Status: New = Confirmed ** Changed in: maas (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided = High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1272011 Title: MAAS installer doesn't prompt for superuser password and email To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1272011/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1287224] [NEW] pronounceable machine names in MAAS
Public bug reported: I understand that sabdfl specifically requested 5-character machine names in MAAS (rather than MAC or IP based names like AWS). I'd like to make an additional request from a usability perspective... Can we please make the MAAS machine names pronounceable? It's really, really difficult to talk about machines in a cluster when the name is kslnw or xpxrqm. Here's a suggestion: $ sudo apt-get install wamerican $ shuf -n 1 /usr/share/dict/american-english | sed 's/[^a-zA-Z]//g' That gives much more readable, though still random, machine names. That dictionary has 100K words in it. There's also wbritish, wcanadian. $ sdw=(...) # The Seven Dirty Words $ egrep -i (${sdw[0]}|${sdw[1]}|...) /usr/share/dict/american-english | wc -l 38 I assume we'd want to use a wordlist without profanity? There are also only 72945 words without punctuation in that list, but MAAS has bigger ambitions! :) To solve both these problems we could select, say, 500 words that are safe and memorable along with a numeric suffix. Another option is to use subdomains for clusters. Clusters are only meant to contain a few hundred machines, so a 500-long word list would probably suffice if it were combined with a subdomain (selected from another word list?). ** Summary changed: - pronounceable machine names in MAAS + MAAS does not have pronounceable machine names ** Also affects: maas Importance: Undecided Status: New ** Changed in: maas Status: New = Triaged ** Changed in: maas Importance: Undecided = Wishlist -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Server Team, which is subscribed to maas in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1287224 Title: MAAS does not have pronounceable machine names To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/maas/+bug/1287224/+subscriptions -- Ubuntu-server-bugs mailing list Ubuntu-server-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com Modify settings or unsubscribe at: https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-server-bugs

[Bug 1287408] [NEW] Panic or segfault in Samba
Public bug reported: Continual email from root noting Panic or segfault in Samba. Unknown if a security issue. By 'Continual' I mean about once a day. Does seem to do it more when I'm coming across a LAN to the Samba machine. I have one folder at root drive called 'shared' (/shared) This folder is for users on the LAN to share items. Not sure if it matters, but all users are accessing this shared folder from a windows O/S. Two uses accessing are using Windows XP, and a third is using Windows 7. The bulk of the times I get the email seem to be right after [accessing /sending-to/receiving-from] the shared drive via the LAN. There have been a couple of times that I have gotten the email from root, where no known accessing of the shared folder had occurred. Here is email from root --- The Samba 'panic action' script, /usr/share/samba/panic-action, was called for PID 11354 (/usr/sbin/smbd). This means there was a problem with the program, such as a segfault. Below is a backtrace for this process generated with gdb, which shows the state of the program at the time the error occurred. The Samba log files may contain additional information about the problem. An update on this; sound is beginning to appear in https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/lrg/asoc.git/?h=intel %2Fhaswell-audio-dsp It also requires firmware (that you can grab from chromiumOS git repository) It's not ready for prime-time yet; it causes some chips in my T100 to heat up very quickly, making the tablet too hot to hold. The standard remedy appears to be, remove the Notification Area from the Panel and then replace it again. I did this. The network manager did not reappear. It is notable, as a user, that the network manager does not appear as one of the applications you can select in Panel preferences. Is it there normally? Or has it disappeared from the options because of the crash? It would be a serious omission if it is not normally there: it is an excellent and vital application. Users cannot do without it. Yet it seems they often have trouble with it disappearing. Stands to reason that something ought to be done urgently to make it a lot easier to get it going again if there are any problems. One thing that did happen when I removed the Notification Area from the Panel and then replace it again was that the dozen-or-so applications that were listed in the Notification Area preferences disappeared. I don't know if this is related to a system restart/new session (in an attempt to recover the network manager) and apps being cleared from memory.
