[Bug 1377900] Re: libvirt start races with xen init

2014-10-06 Thread Stefan Bader
** Description changed:

Now that libvirt also checks for the right contents of
- /proc/xen/control_d there are some cases where things are not quite
+ /proc/xen/capabilities there are some cases where things are not quite
ready when libvirt checks. Looking at the upstart rules, libvirt
currently starts on entering runlevel 2345. kvm/qemu also uses the same
trigger and xen is still using init.d scripts. Since there is no way of
exactly predicting which hypervisor has to come up (could be kvm/qemu or
xen or none), the sanest approach right now seems to delay startup until
rc emulation has finished. This should cover them all. So instead:

  start on startup runlevel [2345]

  we would use

  start on stopped rc RUNLEVEL=[2345]

Checking the current changes added to the upstream bug I have doubts
that those actually fix the issue we have. The fix smells like it only
configures the threshold the flick should start, but doesn't configure
the velocity at all.

Result:
Cursos becomes invisible when it's not moved. When it's moved it blinking.

[Bug 1336855] Re: [SRU] non-interactive grub updates broken for /dev/xvda devices on Cloud-Images/Cloud-init

2014-10-06 Thread Chris J Arges
Hello Ben, or anyone else affected,

Accepted cloud-init into trusty-proposed. The package will build now and
be available at http://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cloud-
init/0.7.5-0ubuntu1.3 in a few hours, and then in the -proposed
repository.

Please help us by testing this new package. See
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/EnableProposed for documentation how to
enable and use -proposed. Your feedback will aid us getting this update
out to other Ubuntu users.

If this package fixes the bug for you, please add a comment to this bug,
mentioning the version of the package you tested, and change the tag
from verification-needed to verification-done. If it does not fix the
bug for you, please add a comment stating that, and change the tag to
verification-failed. In either case, details of your testing will help
us make a better decision.

Further information regarding the verification process can be found at
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/QATeam/PerformingSRUVerification . Thank you in
advance!

[Bug 1368343] Re: [wizard] on the security page, there's a long delay until the keyboard appears

2014-10-06 Thread Michael Terry
The branch https://code.launchpad.net/~mterry/ubuntu-system-settings
/wizard-refresh-take-6/+merge/235720 will help this in two ways:

1) In set-lang.conf, we not only stop maliit, but also immediately restart it.
So it has a little longer to come up before the user notices.
2) The first security page will no longer have a text field, but just something
the user clicks. This will also give the OSK longer to come up before the user
notices.

So this may become less of an issue once that lands.

2014-10-06 Thread Michael Zanetti
Daniel, this is not really a new issue. I saw that from the first day I
booted Krillin. However, it does recover itself quite easily which is
why it gets mostly unnoticed.

stops producing sound is often accurate. Sometimes just pausing a
media player is enough for pulse to release the device. But not always
-- it depends on the player.

[Bug 1325752] Re: All apps become mute when certain apps are opened.

2014-10-06 Thread Owen Williams
It should not be necessary to run pasuspender. Pulseaudio releases its
audio device following a short delay (5 sec?) after the last application
using pulse stops producing sound. So, for instance, if I am playing a
youtube video and run Mixxx, I will notice that my sound card is not
available. If I close the tab with the video, wait a few seconds, and
then Query Devices, my sound card appears and I can select it (no need
to restart Mixxx!).

I think we should work on a feature to detect when pulseaudio has
grabbed devices and show a warning, like PulseAudio is using device
[], please close [list of applications using pulse?] to allow Mixxx
to access it.

[Bug 1091762] Re: [, ATI R6xx HDMI, Digital Out, HDMI] No sound at all

2014-10-06 Thread madbiologist
Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr is based on the 3.13 kernel. The
radeon.audio=1 kernel boot option is no longer necessary with this
kernel. Instead, HDMI audio on ATI/AMD Radeon cards can be enabled and
disabled on the fly by typing the following in a terminal window:

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio on

or

xrandr --output HDMI-0 --set audio off

If your HDMI port is numbered differently (type xrandr to check) - you
might need to change HDMI-0 in the above command to HDMI-1 or HDMI-2.

2014-10-06 Thread Syd Cleveland
I continually get an error when using Software Updater to download and install
latest upgrades to Ubuntu 14.04. Error involves inability to install the
Headers package. This was originally listed as a bug and confirmed (see that
information on the bug page under Bug #1348964), but has now expired so no
one is working on it. The originally suggested solution does not work. This
error occurs every time upgrades are made available and installed. Apparently
I am the only one affected by this bug. Now, when I start Ubuntu I am getting
a Program Error message. My concern is that if this bug is not resolved
soon, errors will multiply and I will have to wipe my harddrive and start all
over again. Does anyone have any possible solution?
Thanks.

[Bug 1370571] Re: Read-only text field doesn't look read-only

2014-10-06 Thread Matthew Paul Thomas
Right now, the read-only field (a) changes appearance when focused, (b)
to white, (c) is debossed, and (d) has a blinking insertion point.
Combined with the fact that its label isn't greyed out, those four clues
strongly indicate that I can type into it. The only thing that prevented
me from thinking that the OSK not appearing here was a bug was the fact
that that I happened to design this screen myself.

That's why I didn't say a read-only text field should always look
focused; that wouldn't solve the problem at all. I said it should look
exactly the same when it isn't focused as when it is.

In most toolkits, read-only text fields (a) aren't even focusable, (b) or if
they are, they don't change color, (c) they have flatter edges than read-write
fields, and (d) they don't have an insertion point (except for accessibility
purposes when you can't select text with a pointing device). You can see how
your browser renders the difference, for example, by copying and pasting the
following line into the address field:
data:text/html,inputinput disabled

(Unfortunately data: URIs don't work with the Ubuntu Browser; I've just
reported that as bug 1377953.)

[Bug 1377956] [NEW] modify semantics of bootme attribute to support delayed reboot

2014-10-06 Thread James Hunt
Public bug reported:

system-image currently supports a 'bootme' option that may be present in
the JSON and instructs Touch to reboot _after it has finished
downloading the current file_.

However, Core has a slightly different requirement. It attempts to
minimise reboots, but when certain packages (like the kernel) have been
updated, a reboot will be required. Crucially though, this reboot should
not occur until the the system image has been fully downloaded *and*
fully unpacked.

After a discussion with barry+mvo, we think the best approach is to
modify the bootme flag to be able to specify a 'deferred' value meaning
reboot at end of download+unpack.

[Bug 1377960] [NEW] xen domains not processed on shutdown

2014-10-06 Thread Stefan Bader
Public bug reported:

On a Xen host it is possible to have guests started via libvirt or xl
directly running in parallel. In that case xl list -l has a bug which
causes it to report an error and fail to process any guest.

On the other side libvirt does not try the xen:/// uri to find Xen
guests started via libvirt. And so those won't get shutdown properly
either.

Fix this on both sides by changing xen-init-list to process only domains
started by the xl toolstack and on the other side add the xen uri to the
list of uris in the libvirt upstart script.

[Bug 1377963] [NEW] sflphone choses the wrong IP for a SIP connection

2014-10-06 Thread LaMont Jones
Public bug reported:

By default, sflphone chooses the IP address for a connection poorly. It
should be trivial to have it query the routing table to get the
interface through which our traffic to the SIP server will go, and use
that IP, rather than hardcoding all of them to one interface and IP for
the selection.

Requiring the user to override the default to a specific interface means
that when it's out some other interface, manual intervention is
required.

[Bug 1374126] Re: mac is not installing bcmwl even though 3rd party drivers is selected

Channelling the above png we see (all errors mine):

  $ ubuntu-drivers list

From what I can see the bcmwl-kernel-source package (from another box):

  apt-cache show bcmwl-kernel-source | grep Mod
  Modaliases: wl(pci:v14E4d*sv*sd*bc02sc80i*)

should be being matched for this one:

[Bug 1377182] Re: [system settings/cellular] Bad UX when no SIM cards are present

2014-10-06 Thread Jonas G. Drange
Added flight mode and made the description a bit clearer.

** Description changed:

- Let's assume you have a SIM slot on your Ubuntu phone, but it's not
- registered as present (for any reason). We currently have no spec for
- this[1]. And, I do not think it is solved by [2] – cellular hardware
- *is* present (the modem/slot/antenna).
+ We currently have no spec for the cellular page[1] when no SIM(s) are
+ inserted and when flight mode is ON. I do not think it is solved by [2]
+ – cellular hardware *is* present (the modem/slot/antenna).

The current UI (remove the SIM and reboot to see for yourself) is a
single-sim-looking, insensitive UI. The unfortunate design of the
disabled ItemSelector makes this very confusing.

- I suggest a insensitive text string (No SIM cards detected).
+ I suggest insensitive text strings, e.g. No SIM cards detected or
+ Flight mode is enabled.

[Bug 1377977] [NEW] Lenovo Yoga 2 Pro intermittently experiences screen corruption with Web browsers and Skype forcing a restart

2014-10-06 Thread Ellen Arnold
Public bug reported:

I will take photos and attach to this bug later. Every few hours I'm
forced to reboot due to screen corruption which may be due to flaky 3D
or acceleration support. When doing video-intensive things like
Skype/Hangout video call the current window will disappear behind the
browser and show up inside the Unity Launcher. Eventually I can no
longer type or use the mouse and the system will reboot itself.

An additional data point is that, when I first tun on the system, it
takes about 3 seconds to draw the Plymouth screen and, if grub asks me
to pick a boot option, about 5 seconds for the grub screen to draw from
the bottom up (which makes me believe it might be poor acceleration
support).

[Bug 1377145] Re: inconsistent use of colour for restart menu when changing language

2014-10-06 Thread James Hunt
@Jonas - I've just realised what is happening when you change language:
the restart message (The phone needs to restart for changes to take
effect:) gets displayed in the language you phone is *about* to be
changed into (as a result of the reboot). Since I was switching from
French to English the message appeared in English.
