Thanks for looking into this futher. You say the issue is only present
in MATE Menu? Not the Apllications Places System menu? After you edit
files in `/usr/share/applications` you need to run `update-desktop-
database -q` for the changes to be picked up.

I encounter this occasionally on 14.10 and a Thinkpad S1 Yoga. I
sometimes have to reboot three times in a row until I get a login that
makes my keyboard and/or mouse begin to function. Putting the laptop
into sleep and taking it out sometimes seems to work too. The

While I'd love to try out the new kernel, I do not know how to install
the proprietary wireless driver Broadcomm 802.11 along with that kernel.
Is there perhaps a guide somewhere that details all the necessary
commands? Thanks in advance.

Type command "arecord test.wav" in terminal, recording a sound, then
pressing "ctrl+c" to end the recording. Using "aplay test.wav" to play
itl, find the sounds record play has noises.
Adjust input volume (even by alsamixer) dose not help to the issue.
