I am going to try ubuntu 12.04 instead.

With the default theme (Ambiance, and Radiance too) the window height is
2 pixels smaller than necessary for the correct pixel to pixel display.
When the theme is changed to High Contrast
The current version of the new greeter exhibits a new issue:
It is not possibe to start typing in the password immediately when connected to
2 displays.
Even clicking into the password field doesn't work.

An easy but not necessarily pretty fix is to revert the commit that
added greeter-fullscreen switching to the dialer [1]. It will leave us
with a black bar where the panel is, but that's probably better than a
jittering experience.

propagate, so let's hold it in -proposed over the weekend. It should
also be tested on Ubuntu Touch first.
I tested it in Qemu and on my laptop.

Additionally: I manage to connect with the display-update script (thanx for the
solution!),
but my connection with ssvnc crashes the lightdm(-gtk-greeter) within a few
seconds and thus X-server and the session.
Restarting lightdm refuses any vnc afterwards. Restart needed.
