Mouse pointer disappears and cursor stops
That really is a problem. How should we handle it? By showing the user a
message, and giving him the option to shutdown anyways? By installing
the updates and only then shutdown, windows style? Or by forbidding the
shutdown completely? Personally, i think the second option is the best.

Thanks for looking in to this - please note however that about 3 weeks
ago I noticed that the touchpad had got a lot better (I'd been using a
mouse since the issue). checking again today - it seems to be fine, so
not sure if a kernel update or other has fixed the issue.

I left my PC for 10 minutes, and when I got back screen was black. I moved my
mouse and screen become active and it displayed Ubuntu lock screen with my
laucnher, panel and desktop showing also.

Maybe you messed up the permissions of the CONFIG files so your changed
setting just cannot be read?
Try this:

And watch the messages. If there is still the old setting visible at the

Now thunderbird works.
So, something was broken in that user's profile.
If that can be two cents to encourage Mozilla to make a reset profile

Respect fontconfig's hintstyle

fontconfig's hintstyle; it will probably need to be adapted for the

I do have a separate filesystem for /boot. I have restarted into the
LiveUSB from which i've installed the system and ran e2fsck -f on that
partition. It has reported that everything was fine. The error message
still remains, however.

The culprit seems to be this line in the changelog:

I can confirm what it is told in #20 works perfectly for me, so you only
need to grab the Windows driver (mine was from a Windows 8.1 64 bit
installation).

into the Ubuntu archive, if you do the following:
1. File an upstream bug. The locale definitions in Ubuntu origin from
glibc, and we don't usually modify them without at least trying to have
the changes applied
