Re: [Bug 1415400] Re: Upgrade to Festival 2.4

2015-01-29 Thread Sergio Oller
Hi,

I have been helping to package Festival and Speech tools in Debian for a
while so I may be able to help here too :-).

Some patches will be dropped as they have been merged upstream (speech
tools documentation improvements for instance) and others will need some
adaptation.

Also some voices' packages (festvox-*) may need testing/changes, because
festival-2.4 includes a newer version of the HTS engine that breaks
(again, sigh) backward compatibility. Many people use HTS voices and
fetch them from Internet as they are not packaged yet [1].

It is not as straightforward as I'd like to. I can prepare a package but
some reverse dependencies will need testing.

[Bug 1415785] [NEW] Please remove all ltsp* blacklisting

2015-01-29 Thread Alkis Georgopoulos
Public bug reported:

Please remove all references to the ltsp-client, ltsp-client-core,
ltspfs, and ltspfsd packages from the update-manager sources, as update-
manager currently removes those packages on dist-upgrades.

Please also SRU this to 12.04 and 14.04, I've seen dozens of LTSP
installations break because of this.

Rationale:
Historically, the ltsp-client package had a preinst check that aborted its
installation in normal systems (by checking for an /etc/ltsp_chroot file).

If someone managed to install it outside of an LTSP chroot, then dist-upgrades
were broken there, and a workaround was introduced in update-manager 1:0.60
gutsy Tue, 24 Apr 2007 16:39:26 +0200.
This is mentioned in the update-manager changelog and in LP #109638.

But, since Ubuntu Precise, ltsp-client no longer has these restrictions
(I'm an upstream LTSP developer) and it's even useful to have it
installed in normal LTSP servers (see
https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuLTSP/ltsp-pnp for more info).

Now the opposite problem arises: when there's need for `update-manager
-dist-upgrade`, update-manager removes at least ltsp-client and ltspfsd,
breaking LTSP installations.
See the attached update-manager screenshot.

Actual use case: a teacher is prompted for a normal update, where some
packages need to be updated, and additionally some unrelated package is
now obsolete and needs to be removed. In that case, update-manager
starts a dist-upgrade (not to be confused with a release upgrade, it's
normal maintenance, not e.g. upgrading from 12.04 to 14.04) and removes
ltsp-client and ltspfsd. The LTSP server stops working and the teacher
doesn't know why, he never even pressed the expand button in the
update dialog to see that those packages were uninstalled.

[Bug 1415510] Re: Frequent kernel panics when doing heavy I/O in LXC containers on Btrfs

2015-01-29 Thread Lenz Grimmer
Hi Joseph, thanks for your quick reply. The problems began some time
after I started using LXC with Btrfs on Trusty, but I'm not sure if a
particular kernel update introduced a regression. I've been using Btrfs
on my home directory previously as well, but did not experience similar
I/O-related crashes.

I'll try using the latest upstream kernel and report back. The problem
is that these crashes happen randomly, I have not yet been able to
reproduce them reliably (and since this always brings down my entire
work environment, I'm not too excited about these crashes, as you can
probably imagine).

Paul (#69), for me the message occurrs in a freshly installed 14.10 system

I think there may be multiple conditions for the error message (broken pipe),

[Bug 1250907] Re: Restart and Shut Down items do the same thing

** Summary changed:

- suppress restart menu item
+ Restart and Shut Down items do the same thing

** Description changed:

- I observed the Restart... and Shutdown... session menu items open
- the exactly same screen. A better solution, I think, is create a option
- Restart or shutdown... menu item to open the screen or just set
- com.canonical.indicator.session.suppress-restart-menuitem for true
- by default.
+ The Restart... and Shutdown... session menu items open the exactly
+ same screen.
+
+ One solution is to merge them into a Restart or shutdown... menu item.
+
+ Another is to set com.canonical.indicator.session.suppress-restart-
+ menuitem for true by default.
+
+ Another is for them to open different dialogs.

[Bug 1415067] Re: qtiplot did not start

2015-01-29 Thread Kheribot Hemza
I found the source of the problem. It is in the scripting language option.
When I choose the ScriptingLang=Python I end with the previousely reported
behaviour,
So I looked for the qtiplot config file in my home directory
(/home/yam/.config/ProIndependent/QtiPlot.config, which is not obvious because
th lack of documentation) and changed the ScriptingLang=muParser (line 18). Now
it work properly.
However the bug still persist with pyhton. I think I should change this bug
repot to QtiPlot crashed when chossing Pyhton as default scripting language

** Description changed:

I installed qtiplot and worked on it for a while. trying to playing with
preferences like font and background colors, I end with this problem...
It does not work any more, even i tried the following from terminal:

- $ qtiplot

Also I tried to rienstall it
  $ sudo apt-get purge qtiplot
  $ sudo apt-get autoremove

[Bug 1415840] [NEW] Chromium People menu does not work with the HUD

2015-01-29 Thread Jorge Morais
Public bug reported:

I have two Chromium users. Their names appear on the HUD when I type
the first letters, but hitting enter has no effect. The two other
commands on the People menu (Edit... and Add person...) are also
ineffective via the HUD. I have to use the mouse to executed these
commands. I have tested many other commands from the other menus (File,
Edit, History, Tools and Help) and they work. It seems the problem is
with the People menu.

[Bug 1415850] [NEW] Count resets to 3 tries after 3 fails at sim unlock

2015-01-29 Thread Dave Morley
Public bug reported:

STEPS:
/!\ Note have your sim puk code to hand for this

1. Goto system settings→security→sim pin
2. Lock a sim
3. Tap on unlock and type in the code incorrectly
4. Repeat process two more times so you require your puk to unlock

EXPECTED:
I expect the your sim is locked please use your puk code to unlock the sim

ACTUAL:
It reverts to saying 3 tries remaining.

To see expected result tap on unlock from the indcator, or fail to unlock the
sim from start up (ie before you get to the welcome screen) Both of these pop
up the puk code as expected.

Here is the image which does not boot:
http://iso.qa.ubuntu.com/qatracker/milestones/326/builds/88376/downloads

The image starts in insecure mode and then GRUB comes up and offers
several choices. When choosing Try Lubuntu without installing it runs
for a few seconds and then freezes, apparently indefinitely. There is
no way to get to another console with ctrl-alt-f1 or anything else. The
only text on the console is:

[7.093063] i i8042: No controller found
starting version 218

More or less the same error occurs when choosing Install Lubuntu from
GRUB

What should have happened is that the installation proceeds or else the
Live session starts, depending on the choice in GRUB.

  Hi,

This patch should be included as it fixes a critical bug in kdelibs
which renders Kontact unable to show user data. The data is actually
there, but not visible or accessible to the user, and therefore is often
perceived as a data loss issue.

The patch itself is small (-11/+5 lines), contained entirely in private
code in the affected library, and comes with a unit test to ensure
  quality.

There is a approved upstream review request to include:

+ So despite waiting for upstream response, it is already being packaged in
Fedora packages as well as being shipped to large institutional users (at least
one of which uses a Debian OS as the desktop client) by downstream
companies such as Kolab Systems. At debian it got into jessie
http://bugs.debian.org/775114

By including this well-tested and already deployed patch, Ubuntu can
ensure that users relying on Kontact working well (among other KDE
applications which use this same functionality) will not need to go
elsewhere (e.g. another downstream) for a patched version of the kdelibs

[Bug 1415510] Re: Frequent kernel panics when doing heavy I/O in LXC containers on Btrfs

[Bug 1415859] [NEW] Immediate I/O errors when dd-ing data to an external USB3 disk

2015-01-29 Thread Lenz Grimmer
Public bug reported:

I discovered this bug while trying to dd a potentially corrupt Btrfs
file system to an external hard disk (see #1415510 for details).
Unfortunately ubuntu-bug refused to file this report, as I'm running
the mainline kernel (as requested in the other bug report).

I'm running Linux 3.19.0-031900rc6-generic (x86_64) in Ubuntu Trusty on
an IBM Thinkpad T440. I am using an external 4TB Samsung USB3 hard disk
drive for backup purposes.

% cat /proc/version
Linux version 3.19.0-031900rc6-generic (kernel@gomeisa) (gcc version 4.6.3
(Ubuntu/Linaro 4.6.3-1ubuntu5) ) #201501261152 SMP Mon Jan 26 16:53:27 UTC 2015

When trying to dd the content of a logical volume into an image file on
the external disk drive (/dev/sdc1, formatted using ext4), the kernel
immediately begins to throw I/O Errors:

% sudo dd bs=8k if=/dev/mapper/ubuntu--vg-container
of=/media/lenz/e2a4dc71-4c96-4dab-982c-29918e556afd/vg-container.img

[Bug 1415833] Re: Wrong tech set in Cellular screen

2015-01-29 Thread Alfonso Sanchez-Beato
I am able to reproduce this after rebooting:

1. Reboot
2. Open system settings and go to Cellular: 2G is wrongly selected (I see HSDP
in indicator)
3. Close system settings
4. Open system settings and go to Cellular: now I have 2G/3G/4G selected, which
is correct

[Bug 1412307] Re: Front Camera not working on Sony Vaio Pro 13

2015-01-29 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Sándor Iorgu Weisz-Cucoli, the screenshots you are providing aren't
terribly helpful, as they don't provide any further information
regarding what error specifically is occurring.

Could you please run cheese from a terminal to see if it logs something
more verbose?

As well, regarding the password field and translation issues, those are
not scoped to this report. If you want those addressed, please file a
new report about those, one per issue.

[Bug 1103593] Re: Unity always shows all devices in launcher when CD is inserted

2015-01-29 Thread Artur
Unfortunately setting blacklist to ['-'] in
com.canonical.Unity.Devices does not work for USB drives, pendrives,
partitions, etc. They are not removed from launchbar. I used dconf
editor to watch the blacklist: it forgets gathered uuids right after
disconnecting external device, so they appear again and again.

I found following workaround: there is
com.canonical.Unity.Launcher.favorites parameter, the same Matpen tried
to remove value 'unity://devices' from. It is enough to move
'unity://devices' to the end. The auto-USB-device icons - 3,5,10,
whatever number is - still appear but at end of launchbar, so they do
not disturb other icons. It is possible icons of new applications, not
pinned to launchbar, can still be added after USB icons, so ensure
'unity://running-apps' and any other value occurs before
'unity://devices'. Unity remembers order of the values, after system
reboot too.

If developers find a time to deal with this problem: IMHO the best
solution is ONE icon, one icon to rule them all... Depending on user
choice it may be pinned to launchbar or appear automatically after
mounting first resource at /media/user. Hovering cursor or clicking it
should expand list of all mounted devices to the right to allow to
browse selected one (if more than one). A number of connected media on
the icon would be a nice addition.
