without problems. What is curious is why it was working before under Ubuntu

My question was, why did you use the PPA?
A-ha. The answer is that i'm using it because first my host-system was Trusty
and it had very old versions of VM-components. Then I upgraded to Utopic and I
just kept using that PPA to have most fresh versions.

I installed trusty on my machine which has a magnatic hard disk and a solid
state hard disk. Looking in /sys/block/sd*/queue/scheduler I can see they are
both using deadline.
After installing kubuntu-settings-desktop from trusty-proposed and rebooting I
check /sys/block/sd*/queue/scheduler
