[Bug 1446987] Re: hpps (and other HPLIP components) should not crash in error situations
To the HPLIP developers at HP: See my changed bug description. ** Description changed: + The filter hpps crashes (Python Traceback) on a broken pipe on stdout + when the subsequent filter (the hp backend) errors out due to a network + problem (see comment #8). As Linux distributions have automatic crash + handling/reporting systems this causes annoying pop-ups which irritate + the users giving the impression of a more severe problem. + + To the HPLIP developers at HP: Please check all components for possible + crashes in error situations. + + Original report: + I have a HP Laserjet pro 200 color MFP M276n which was configured and working normally. I have it configured both directly with an USB connection, and through the network with a fixed IP. Since a recent cups update (I believe), network printing does not work any more but the USB connection still works. When I try to print through the network I get a message telling me that the job has been send, and then I get a crash report. I don't know why apport is not intercepting the crash report, so I attach it manually here. In the properties window of the printer I see Idle - Filter failed and in the printer queue the job is held. [Bug 1446830] Re: can't find uninstalled packages on a system installed with the alternate image
No, it is clearly a design flaw. While the DB is being generated, it drops every package without installation candidate. On the alternate install, there are no informations about the avaible packages so everything is dropped, if it isn't installed. That is why DB is that small, it should be around 80 megs (see #2). Running apt-get update as postinst would have no effect if no internet connection is avaible (not sure if it works with internet). To be honest, I don't see a good fix for this. We could avoid dropping of entries without installation candidate, but that would mean that uninstallable packages appear in LSC. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446830 Title: can't find uninstalled packages on a system installed with the alternate image To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lubuntu-software-center/+bug/1446830/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1446027] Re: SNA acceleration causes sudden shutdowns and corrupts CMOS data on the the Asus UX21E ultrabook on a wide variety of kernels since at least Ubuntu 14.04
Okay, I'll download a regular Ubuntu 14.04.2 LiveCD and use it to prepare the diagnostics info. I won't be using a modified BIOS at that time. I'm currently switching between the latest official and my custom BIOS. The latest BIOS 214 is known to have caused similar behavior in WIndows 8.1, and earlier BIOS versions are sheerly unusable because they cause a shutdown every time AC is unplugged while CPU is under strain (that's why they had to make the 214 version) BTW, when running on AC, Kubuntu 14.10 Plasma Next boots some three seconds faster off an SSD with my modified BIOS, as compared to the vanilla BIOS. Also no shutdowns so far. Prompts me thinking it was buggy CPU microcode that under certain conditions provoked abnormal power consumption peaks / some other undesirable effects that backfied when running on low battery. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1446027 Title: SNA acceleration causes sudden shutdowns and corrupts CMOS data on the the Asus UX21E ultrabook on a wide variety of kernels since at least Ubuntu 14.04 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xorg/+bug/1446027/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
