Subsequent to my previous comments I note two new pieces of information:
1. After upgrading from 14.10 to 15.04, my Logitech M570 has disappeared
from the power indicator (and the output of upower --dump) entirely,
while the K810 remains (and still problematically shows as the primary
battery).

I will do that.
I also wanted to note that I originally reported this as only occurring
on certain systems with AMD processors and nVidia chipsets. However, in
the meantime this has been duplicated on other hardware configurations
as well.

Hello, folks, the problem is now solved.
The problem was caused by a script located at /usr/share/libpam-
script/pam_script_auth, triggered by libpam-script (manpages: pam.d and
pam-script). This script allows some extra verifications using user's
password. It must be used very carefully, not
gst-plugins-bad doesn't use mir directly, and the mir_toolkit header
gets included because of platform-api. I believe the right fix would be
for platform-api to export the right include path as part of the pc file
that it exports.
