[Bug 1527914] Re: Huawei E3372 is not detected and cannot be used

2016-01-14 Thread Mikaela Suomalainen
For example, where do I start, possibly getting the kernels, but where
do I get the kernels as it seems like you are telling me to learn
compiling kernels? And I have understood compiling kernels takes hours.
And which kernel do I start from, if I end to where it breaks?

[Bug 1534263] [NEW] Import cmake-3.4 series to Ubuntu Xenial

2016-01-14 Thread Jose Luis Rivero
Public bug reported:

Latest stable upstream release. New 3.4 series which brings nice
features with respect to current version in Xenial. It has been in
debian-sid for more than one month and I can not find any bug related to
this latest version.

It builds just fine in my Xenial PPA:
https://launchpad.net/~j-rivero/+archive/ubuntu/cmake-3.4-xenial

Regarding to the building issues in armhf, arm64 and powerpc in the 3.3
series, I see that 3.4 debian packages compiles in all them
(https://packages.debian.org/sid/cmake) so probably they are now fixed.

I was close to submit the standard requestsync but just realized that we
probably want to keep a set of specific ubuntu patches. The requestsync
displayed me this message:

 8<
Explanation of the Ubuntu delta and why it can be dropped:
  * Cherry-pick upstream commit fe558718b30da989db8b880374012a0e580574e6
to fix test suite failure with new file.
  * Cherrypick Features_Extract_strings_from_test_binary_more_reliably.patch
from Debian to fix test-suite errors.
  * Revert back to 3.2.2, build issues on armhf, arm64 and powerpc.
  * Merge with Debian; remaining changes:
- debian/cmake-data.install
  debian/MultiArchCross.cmake
  debian/patches/ubuntu_cmake-crosscompile.patch
  Add MultiArchCross.cmake to installed files.
  (help cmake to find libraries in multiarch path)
  xnox says this is not yet ready to go upstream but he will work on it
- debian/patches/ubuntu_boost-multiarch.patch
  find boost and python in multiarch path
  this is a candidate for removal but needs rdepend testing
  * Search for Python 3.5.

 8<

So: can we go with a normal requestsync? Is there any patches that needs
to be migrated? I'm available to get some work done if needed.

Thanks.

[Bug 1272624] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] 14.04 Touchpad causing mouse pointer to spuriously jump around screen

2016-01-14 Thread Martyn
It seems to be the same problem as I am having with my Dell Latitude
E7440 with Ubuntu 14.04.03, Ubuntu 15.04 amd64, Ubuntu 15.10 amd64, and
also when testing with the latest upstream kernels.

I raised a separate bug report for the problem as requested by
Christopher M. Penalver 22/10/15; this bug report is currently active
(https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1513914)

I am not sure about the link, it seems to suggest that it has already
been fixed in kernel 3.1.6+, but I am now up to kernel 4.4.0 and the
problem still exists.

If we want to try to handle pool name collisions (and frankly, I'm not

changing GRUB as well. This patch is a good improvement on its own. If

Re: [Bug 1531747] Re: overlay: mkdir fails if directory exists in lowerdir in a user namespace

2016-01-14 Thread Seth Forshee
On Thu, Jan 14, 2016 at 12:17:06AM -, Serge Hallyn wrote:
> Does it require the workdir to be empty?

Not empty. It wants to remove workdir/work if it exists and then create
workdir/work, see ovl_workdir_create. Removing workdir/work is done as
the user which is mounting, so nothing can be removed that the user
couldn't already remove. ovl_workdir_create is ultimately just using
vfs_rmdir if the directory exists, which is going to fail if
workdir/work isn't empty.

> I.e. is there a way (symlink, bind mount, something else) that a user

I don't think so, since

1. lowerdir is not written to.
2. We've established that what's done with workdir won't make this
   possible.
3. When the vfs checks inode permissions for writing ovl_permission is
   called, which checks the permissions for the inode in upperdir for
   any write operation.

I've checked most of the places where overlay fs raises its credentials,
and I haven't found anything where it's doing anything with elevated
creds that isn't in line with the permission checks that would have
already been done. I'm still looking at ovl_rename2 though, which is
doing a lot more stuff with elevated creds than anywhere else.

Something I'm still not sure about is what would happen if you made a
symlink, bind mount, etc. in upperdir with the same name as an unrelated
file in lowerdir. This is worth checking out.

I think I'm missing something here. I don't know why your mount is
read-only. But even if it wasn't, cisco is in lowerdir and thus should
never be modified or removed in any case. Removing it in /mnt should (I
think, still learning here) result in making a file in upperdir with the
whiteout xattr set.

[Bug 1534191] [NEW] video replay should resume after user confirms high volume

2016-01-14 Thread Charles Kerr
Public bug reported:

A followup to bug #1504065 suggested by davmor2 in #phablet.

 charles, jhodapp: with silo 46 I have an issue. On first boot
and possibly every day after that, if you try and watch a video from the
device, you get a popup saying audio is loud accept or what ever, this
popup takes focus from the media player and therefore pauses the video,
when you click on yes is there a way we can continue playback for the
audio warnings?

[Bug 1534172] Re: With bgplaylists if an alert sounds, the playback stops and the queue is lost

2016-01-14 Thread Andrew Hayzen
For this test case:
1) start music app, play a song
2) switch to camera
3) take a photo
4) at that point the music/queue stops/empties in the second
5) switch back to music
6) close both apps

The media-hub.log pastebins for the old and new app:
old app - http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/14496280/
new app - http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/14496300/

In the case of the new app, after
file:///system/media/audio/ui/camera_click.ogg is played from the
camera-app, the music is stopped and the queue is cleared.

[Bug 1272624] Re: [Dell Latitude E7440] 14.04 Touchpad causing mouse pointer to spuriously jump around screen

2016-01-14 Thread Tim Banchi
I experience the same problem with Ubuntu 14.04 amd64 on a Dell Latitude
E7440. No issue with the trackpoint. Sometimes this issue stops
suddenly, but when the problem occurs, it is impossible to work on e.g.
spreadsheets because the cursor is constantly jumping away from the cell
I want to click.

As a cross reference: I found this link:

[Bug 1520643] Re: Aspect ratio of video playback becomes invalid, if extended desktop is used

2016-01-14 Thread Jarno Suni
** Description changed:

  Steps to reproduce:
  1. Start mythtv frontend with single display on.
  2. Use xrandr to extend desktop to cover two displays. (The displays have
different aspect ratios.)
  3. Go to media library and start playback.

  Or:
  1. Use xrandr to extend desktop to cover two displays. (The displays have
different aspect ratios.)
  2. Start mythtv frontend. It seems to open in the primary display.
  3. Go to media library and start playback.

  Expect aspect ratio of the video to be correct (as it was with single
display).
  But it is different. Like vertical fill and horizontal fill even if only
horizontal fill is selected in settings.

+ Workaround:
+ Set Appearance > Monitor aspect ratio in Setup of MythTV Frontend.

[Bug 1534191] Re: video replay should resume after user confirms high volume

2016-01-14 Thread Charles Kerr
As a followup to davmor2's suggestion, you could actually resume
playback whenever the dialog is dismissed.

When the warning pops up, indicator-sound also clamps the sink input's
volume back to one notch below the warning level. So even if the user
hits "Cancel" instead of "OK", we're always legal when the dialog is
dismissed.

[Bug 1534205] [NEW] cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf should work without /etc/network/interfaces symlink

2016-01-14 Thread Scott Moser
Public bug reported:

See [1] for doc on cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf.

cloud-initramfs-dyn-netconf takes klibc ipconfig output and writes
/etc/network/interfaces (ENI) style file in /run/network/dynamic-interfaces.
The goal is to have the user's provided 'ip=' kernel parameters be "sticky" and
not have the network interface get bounced by normal post-initramfs networking
bringup. Essentially kernel command line should override
/etc/network/interfaces in a similar way to command line flags overriding
environment or system configuration.

As it is right now, we have to have ln -sf /etc/network/interfaces
/run/network/dynamic-interfaces in order for this to work.
That means:
 a.) if you've not done this, dyn-netconf isn't much use
 b.) if you *have* done this, but not provided ip= then you'll get you'll get
no network configuration.

In xenial, the one necessary change from a cloud image to maas image is
this symlink, so that the image can work well with networking
information being provided on the kernel command line via network boot.

[Bug 1302852] Re: Does not work in non-Unity DEs/Xsessions

2016-01-14 Thread Sebastien Bacher
the code doesn't really assume that the Unity prompt is available

"  if ((prompt == PROMPT_NONE) && p && p->end_session_dialog)
{
  GDBusProxy * proxy = G_DBUS_PROXY (p->end_session_dialog);
  char * name = g_dbus_proxy_get_name_owner (proxy);
  if (name != NULL)
prompt = PROMPT_WITH_UNITY;
  g_free (name);
}

  /* can we use zenity? */
  if ((prompt == PROMPT_NONE) && p && p->zenity)
prompt = PROMPT_WITH_ZENITY;"

name should be null if unity is not active (is not on the bus) and it
should hit the second case and go with zenity...

fe80::a00:27ff:fefd:3b2a%eth0: Address family for hostname not supported

The code to resolve addresses in network.c does

#ifdef HAVE_GETADDRINFO_AI_ADDRCONFIG
hints.ai_flags |= AI_ADDRCONFIG;
#endif
if (ca_is_flag_set(attrs, CA_NUMERIC_MODE))
hints.ai_flags |= AI_NUMERICHOST;

this should be perhaps changed to the (untested):

if (ca_is_flag_set(attrs, CA_NUMERIC_MODE))
hints.ai_flags |= AI_NUMERICHOST;
#ifdef HAVE_GETADDRINFO_AI_ADDRCONFIG
else
hints.ai_flags |= AI_ADDRCONFIG;
#endif

so that AI_ADDRCONFIG is not specified when numeric host address is
used.

[Bug 1534203] [NEW] openssl_random_pseudo_bytes() security bug and PHP packages

2016-01-14 Thread vinc-q
*** This bug is a security vulnerability ***

Public security bug reported:

Maybe Ubuntu official PHP packages aren't patched against
openssl_random_pseudo_bytes() security bug
(https://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=70014). The vulnerability is corrected in the
versions
5.6.12, 5.5.28, 5.4.44, so it might be still affecting the currently supported
Ubuntu PHP packages  (5.6.11, 5.6.4, 5.5.9).

this seems to be a python issue, can you install python:amd64? or
python2.7:amd64?
I wouldn't blame virtualbox for a python issue, maybe python/trusty isn't
multiarch?

>Different errors this time, though:

I don't care about the errors this time :)
you didn't build the dkms module, so the errors will be about a version
mismatch.

no, please don't mix vbox from website with the ubuntu one, because if
you don't purge it, you won't have a working state.

so, please purge everything called virtualbox, specially virtualbox-5.0
(I really mean purge, not remove), try to install python2.7:amd64, and
then install virtualbox-dkms.

If you can't install python2.7 you won't be able to fix this issue, it
seems to be the culprit, regardless of who did build virtualbox.

cheers!

[Bug 1516263] Re: Texts are not rendering properly

2016-01-14 Thread Christopher M. Penalver
Pavak Paul, the next step is to fully commit bisect from kernel 3.19 to
4.2 in order to identify the last good kernel commit, followed
immediately by the first bad one. This will allow for a more expedited
analysis of the root cause of your issue. Could you please do this
following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/KernelBisection ?

Please note, finding adjacent kernel versions is not fully commit
bisecting.

After the offending commit (not kernel version) has been identified,
then please mark this report Status Confirmed.

Thank you for your understanding.

[Bug 1367946] Re: thermald fails to start on AMD Phenom(tm) II X4 945 Processor

2016-01-14 Thread Colin Ian King
@David,

Is this problem still an issue? If so, I did try out thermald on an AMD
device and wrote some notes on how to configure thermald manually on my
blog: http://smackerelofopinion.blogspot.co.uk/2015/09/tweaking-
thermald-configuration-file.html

There are also some brief how to notes on
https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Kernel/PowerManagement/ThermalIssues

Perhaps that will be a useful starting point. Let me know if this helps
or not. If I've not heard anything in 6 weeks I will then close this

[Bug 1534169] Re: When playing audio from two sources with bgplaylists support (eg music-app and scope) it becomes confusing

2016-01-14 Thread Pat McGowan
** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image
   Importance: Undecided => High

** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image
Milestone: None => ww08-2016

** Changed in: canonical-devices-system-image
 Assignee: (unassigned) => Alejandro J. Cura (alecu)

** Description changed:

  When playing audio from two sources that have bgplaylists support (eg
  music-app and scope) it becomes confusing, whichever is in view seems to
  get the focus of the controls in the indicator-sound.

  What happened:
  1) Start playing music from the music-app
  2) Notice that the controls are shown in the indicator-sound
  3) Go to the scopes and start playing music from the local music scope
  4) Now notice that the music for the music-app stops and the controls are
correctly switched for the scopes
  5) Now switch back to the music-app, but do not select anything
  6) Notice that the controls have switched to being for the music-app and not
the scope, so I cannot now pause the scope I have to assume that selecting play
in music will then pause the scope.

  What I expected to happen:
  This is tricky, if the controls stayed with whatever was playing instead of
in focus, this could be less confusing. But still you lose the second apps
controls.
  I would prefer that all apps that are playing audio are shown in the
indicator, similar to unity7. This then would not be confusing as you could see
the controls for all the different apps available.
+
+ --
+
+ From the design spec at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Sound#Sound_menu
+
+ The menu should always show exactly only one set of playback controls,
+ for the player that was playing most recently. For example, if audio is
+ currently playing, the controls should be for that player.

[Bug 1534125] Re: [Xenial] No 'Save as' option

2016-01-14 Thread Fabio Marconi
Thanks seb128.
In my system all is by default, I can't see any menu bar, nor in window or in
Unity topbar.
In the window there are only three buttons, 'Open, New, Save' no more options
(right clicking on the buttons show only 'close').
Best regards

** Changed in: gedit (Ubuntu)
   Status: Incomplete => New

** Description changed:

  Hallo
  as it seems that the tool bar now is on the app window and not on the unity
upper bar, we can no more have the option to 'Save as'.
- To reproduce open a document and try to save it to a different directory.
+ To reproduce open a document and try to save it to a different directory, or
modify it and try to save as another document.
  Best regards
