[Bug 1581491] [NEW] Mouse pointer jumps around when I am typing

2016-05-13 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Public bug reported:

On a Lenovo T450s, the mousepad is not disabled when typing. There is no
option I can see to disable it while typing in the "Mouse & Touchpad"
settings, either.

Instead it should behave like other machines, in which the mousepad
ignores being brushed by palms or thumbs while keys are being typed.

[Bug 1581490] [NEW] grub-install fails for Kubuntu 16.04 on RAID 1

2016-05-13 Thread Twisted Lucidity
Public bug reported:

Trying to install Kubuntu 16.04 on a desktop which uses RAID 1.

The install starts OK and then fails about half way through with:

Executing 'grub-install /dev/sda' failed.

[Bug 1525361] Re: Install of upstream Docker package only fails when running through cloud-init

2016-05-13 Thread Jason
This might be a different issue. But it feels related. In AWS if I
build an instance, and install the docker.io package and then make an
AMI.

Booting from that AMI, cloud-init is REALLY broken. Only runs the
NoDataSource data source. None of the other cloud ones trigger (ec2,
rightscale, etc.)

Steps to reproduce:

Launch amazon instance from the official canonical xenial AMI.
Install docker.io
Create a different shell user to log in with (cloud-init won't put your AWS SSH
Key into the ubuntu user)
Create AMI from that instance.
Launch a second amazon instance from your new AMI

[Bug 1464917] Re: reboot hangs at 'Reached target Shutdown'

2016-05-13 Thread Gregory Kramida
Dear all, turns out, my system was suffering from completely different
bug with similar symptoms. It was a problem with the motherboard BIOS. I
upgraded the BIOS and the bug went away. I'm taking myself off the
mailing list for this bug.

If you're suffering from a similar issue even after the fix in Xenial,
try upgrading your BIOS. If that doesn't help and you're on a desktop,
try clearing CMOS with the jumper (not through the menu) after the
successful BIOS upgrade.

[Bug 1581245] Re: unity-settings-daemon crashes every time T450s laptop is un-docked

2016-05-13 Thread Christopher Barrington-Leigh
Curious.

I have submitted this bug report the automatic way more than once per
day for the last 60 days: every time I undock, a dialog comes up and I
say yes to submit it. But I never get an email saying there's been a
bug report generated, and I've never received any follow-up.

/etc/default/apport says (already):
enabled=1

running ubuntu-bug on the crash report (
/var/crash/_usr_lib_unity-settings-daemon_unity-settings-daemon.1001.crash )
brings up the dialog I see every day; I click Continue, and it goes away, and
nothing more happens.

[Bug 1581487] [NEW] Openssh update silently deletes CA certificates / public keys from known_hosts

2016-05-13 Thread Def
Public bug reported:

Presumably linked to the two references [1,2] below, following a recent
update to openssh-client on 14.04, the certificates / public keys for my
SSH CAs were silently removed from my known_hosts file.

This behaviour was repeated across two out of two machines on which I
use SSH certificates.

The code[1] indicates that the existing known_hosts file should be moved
to known_hosts.old prior to old host keys being rotated. A
known_hosts.old file was found in the .ssh directory, still containing
the CA certificates.

The changelog states that this rotation of host keys will only occur
when UpdateHostkeys is turned on in ssh_config. This directive was not
defined in either of my ssh_config files.

Tested the command with both xenial & yakkety 64 bits:

xenial:
- after validating the command, i got dropped back to a frozen recovery menu
- ctrl+alt+del to exit after a while
- check nautilus , and cant find a network.debug output

yakkety:
- the command immediatly abort with: 'read only system'
- starting that command with 'sudo' does not help either.

So in both cases, it lokks like a right issue

Under the GNOME MRE, you can believe all bugs upstream says are fixed
are really fixed. Just test the system and make sure there are no

[Bug 1581476] [NEW] Ubuntu 16 Compiz Broke Java Application (Again)

2016-05-13 Thread Nic Grounds
Public bug reported:

Similar to bug
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/1145770 and
https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1138517 after I upgraded from Ubuntu 15
to 16 I noticed that Java applications (notably Eclipse) have become
very sluggish, slow to respond (as the Java process constantly consumes
70-100% of a CPU core), and often don't draw their window contents
properly (i.e. a button which is toggled between enabled/disabled
doesn't get redrawn to depict the change, dialog contents on e.g. the
Run Configuration dialog don't get drawn fully until I click on some
other widget in the dialog like a tab name or button).

I've had this problem on both my desktop and a laptop which were
upgraded from Ubuntu 15 to 16. If I run metacity or mutter instead of
compiz then Java applications work fine like they used to. If I disable
the Ubuntu Unity plugin in compiz (using ccsm) like another bug report
or post suggested then the problem does *not* go away. So, I believe
there was some aspect of compiz that changed between Ubuntu 15 and 16 in
which an old bug was reintroduced or a new one (similar to a past bug)
was introduced.

I'm using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS and compiz 1:0.9.12.2+16.04.20160415-0ubuntu1

[Bug 1581462] Re: package cacti 0.8.8f+ds1-2 failed to install/upgrade: le sous-processus script post-installation installé a retourné une erreur de sortie d'état 1

2016-05-13 Thread Paul Gevers
Thanks for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu
better. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but this appears
to be an user error. The DpkgTerminalLog.txt file says:

Access denied for user 'root'@'localhost' (using
│ password: YES)

So you provided the wrong password. cacti uses dbconfig-common to manage
database related work, and t that offers you the option to abort or
ignore the issue if you don't fix it immediately. You choose to abort.
So the "error" you see is on request after you decided to not find the
proper root password. Therefore I mark this bug as invalid.

qtmir.mir.input: Received
MirPointerEvent(x=1084,y=1056,relative_x=-47.501,relative_y=-2.64137)

The Unrecognized event must be "window leave", so USC thinking pointer
left the unity8 window, so no more events are delivered.

You can also see that while the "invisible edge" doesn't always happen
on the same x (weird!), there has to be a negative x delta before any
other event is delivered (but no "window enter" event ¿?).

+ This driver not only predates Linux's rtlwifi driver, but it behaves
+ differently too (the 'iw phy' commands doesn't work, AP is not working
+ for some adapter, etc), it's stale (it's the same exact driver that was
+ imported into the RaspberryPI BSP around Linux 3.2 and got no updates
+ since then -
+ https://www.raspberrypi.org/forums/viewtopic.php?p=81358#p81358), and is
+ not widely used as rtlwifi is - every other big Linux distribution uses
+ rtlwifi - Ubuntu, CentOS / RH, Debian, Gentoo, Arch, OpenWRT, etc except
+ for the RaspberrPI kernel / Raspbian.
+
+ I've tried to convince upstream to remove this driver and revert to
+ rtlwifi, but my suggestion was met with resistance:
+
+ https://github.com/raspberrypi/linux/pull/1468
+
+ Since we successfully use rtlwifi in every other architecture /
+ branches, i'm proposing to drop this out-of-tree driver and bring the
+ raspi2 kernel closer to the other Ubuntu kernels.
+
+ If we ever feel the need for an out of tree driver for this chipset, the
+ driver should probably be imported into master and propagated from there
+ to all the branches.
+
+ Fix: Revert the Realtek driver, and add back RTLWIFI to the build
+
+ Test:
+
+ check for the presence of the 8192cu.ko module:
+
+ $ find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name 8192cu.ko
+
+ if it's present you have the out-of-tree driver,
+ while if it's missing and you have the rtl819cu.ko, you're running the
upstream driver:
+
+ $ find /lib/modules/`uname -r` -name rtl8192cu.ko
+
+ ---
+
+

Sure, the -N flag is to run gpsd in the foregound.

But if you want gpsd to run as a daemon, it cannot with the current
configuration.

If you remove the -N flag it will not function at all.

Moreover, modifications to the "EnvironmentFile=-/etc/default/gpsd are
never read.

Try it. Modify the options, change the devicenothing.

Make the change to the unit file, *that is consistent* with dealing with
unix style daemons, such as gpsd, and all these problems go away.
