I believe something was corrupted while switching drivers. It's possible
that the control center tool that does software updates and changes
proprietary drivers hit some issue and was not able to do an atomic
rollback. I am not sure what went wrong, however, since the workarounds

After upgrading from Ubuntu 14.04 LTS to 16.04 LTS (xenial) I'm affected

Thanks for sharing - our code overall is very similar.
You had missed a few renames from igb_uio, then the changelog and a few other
minor things.
I didn't like the quilt patch to fix up the includes - that works much more
focused with a small change to the dkms conf.

I just discovered that the sound does not work in Windows 7 with all of
the drivers installed. In that there appears to be a hardware issue that
is keeping the sound from working, I believe this may not be an actual
bug.

Speaking with my fish developer hat on:
It seems snap creates POSIX shell scripts in /etc/profile.d, which fish
doesn't read because it doesn't use POSIX syntax.
Since fish 2.3.0, fish has three directories for additional
configuration to be slotted in:
- "/usr/share/fish/conf.d" for packages

It is reassuring to hear that dash.ubuntu.com acts as a proxy. On a
personal level I find this to be more tolerable than a direct interface
with a commercial service I have no customer relation with.
The data aspect alone is probably enough to warrant inclusion of
