I have confirmed that this bug also affects Lubuntu 16.04.1 (32-bit)
running under VirtualBox 5.1 (the latest version, at the time of
writing.)
The workaround also works: switching to a text console.
Others report that it did NOT happen with the original release 16.04.

I see this every time I restart Ubuntu 15.10 64-bit system. Hoping this
defect will get assigned to be debugged and preferably fixed, especially
since this is several years old.

This works for all of the other applications that I've run, but not for

I can confirm that this fixes all problems reported on this bug (Eclipse and
Gimp).
The following packages are installed:
$ dpkg -l | grep compiz
ii compiz
1:0.9.12.2+16.04.20160801.3-0ubuntu1all
ii compiz-core
I built a v4.4.16 kernel, which can be downloaded from:
http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~jsalisbury/lp1610320/v4.4.16/
Can you give that kernel a try?

Tests are disabled, for not much of a reason? Says it needs a dbus
session. And testing, it also seems to need X.
So running "xvfb-run make check" seems to do the trick. Can we re-
enable tests (and pass the fix on to Debian).
Looks fine besides.
