Jeremey, actually, I'm not sure, but I think the Ubuntu update was compiling the module after downloading the new kernel before the system was rebooted into the new kernel, which is how the module was compiled for the old kernel instead of the new. On rebooting, I was unable to rebuild the module for the new kernel, as it said the module was already installed. Using "modprobe -r " doesn't work because the module is installed by dmks. I had to issue the command sudo dkms remove -m 8812au -v 1.0 -k to remove it. Without the kernel specified, I think it will delete module builds for all kernel versions, which means you won't be able to boot into an older kernel and have the wifi work. Then I was able to rebuild the module from the current (latest) kernel version and install it with dkms, and everything worked fine: sudo dkms add -m 8812au -v 1.0 sudo dkms build -m 8812au -v 1.0 sudo dkms install -m 8812au -v 1.0 As I said in my last post however, with the most recent update to kernel 4.4.0-38, the build happened automatically and this wasn't necessary. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage. You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode. To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1630107/+editstatus and add the package name in the text box next to the word Package. [Bug 1629824] Re: lxd should explicitly create "containers" and "images" datasets on ZFS
What in particular is problematic about the solution I have proposed? The code needs testing, and it should be converted to a loop, and any other datasets need to be added to the list. But what is wrong in concept? A sufficiently educated admin could create everything perfectly for lxd, but why should they have to when lxd can trivially do it for them? > If the user manually creates a pool, it's their responsability to > pass -m none. It's unreasonable to expect the admin to make their pool use mountpoint=none. That's not a normal ZFS configuration. It's not the ZFS default. It's not how root pools work on any OS. The only place I've seen that approach is with pools lxd creates. > I'd probably just have LXD force set mountpoint=none for whatever > dataset its root is at and let the rest inherit. It's more unreasonable to force their pool to mountpoint=none. If someone runs `lxd init`, gives it their existing pool, and lxd *breaks their system*, that's not okay. If the practice of lxd was to create another dataset level, then it could force that level to mountpoint=none. That would be a reasonable solution. For example, if I pass in "pool", then lxd could create "pool/lxd" with mountpoint=none and then create "pool/lxd/containers/..." and "pool/lxd/images/..." under there. However, while that is a fine choice, that's not how lxd is doing things now, and it would be inconsistent with dedicated lxd pools. The solution I'm proposing works in all three supported scenarios and does not break existing users. > That wouldn't be quite enough, LXD creates a number of other paths when > archiving images, mounting snapshots, doing live migration, ... This proves my point. How does the admin have any idea which datasets lxd is going to create, such that they can pre-create all those datasets with the right settings? I've spent several hours testing lxd, and multiple back-and-forth conversations with you, and I'm still apparently unaware of all the datasets lxd can use. Even if an admin is fully aware of everything lxd uses today, at any time the next version of lxd might create something new. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1629824 Title: lxd should explicitly create "containers" and "images" datasets on ZFS To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxd/+bug/1629824/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1601997] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 installer sets metadata_csum option on ext4 partition which is incompatible with other LTS Ubuntu versions
One bit of context --- metadata_csum is not enabled by default in the official upstream e2fsprogs.tar.gz file. So with my upstream maintainer hat, I deliberately decided not to enable it by default, and mentioned in the release notes that individual distributions should decide whether they wanted to enable it. So with the upstream e2fsprogs tarball, the user can still request metadata_csum by asking for it explicitly: mke2fs -t ext4 -O metadata_csum. With my *Debian* maintainer hat on (well, with some egging on with my upstream maintainer persona :-), I decided to enable metadata_csum by default so that in the testing and unstable branches, metadadata_csum checking would get some additional exposure, and hence testing. This gambit has worked. There have been a number of bug between 1.43 and 1.43.3 that were fixed because they were reported by Debian users. Whether I will continue leaving metadata_csum enabled right before Debian Stretch goes into final lockdown for the Debian Stable release is not something I have decided, but so far the bug report rate has been positive. Ubuntu has apparently adopted the Debian enablement of metadata_csum by default, because it's based on the Debian 1.43.3-1 package. However, there may be some differences between Ubuntu and Debian --- the average technical sophistication of a Debian vs. a Ubuntu user, compatibility constraints with Ubuntu LTS, etc. --- that may drive a different decision with respect to mke2fs's *defaults*. It would be good if a decision is made explicitly by Ubuntu / Canonical to decide what best makes since for Ubuntu. If you decide that Ubuntu 16.10 is a community distro, and you want to help me test metadata_csum, that's great.I have had some experiences with less-than-savvy Ubuntu users who really struggled with filing a useful bug report and participating in root causing a bug. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1601997 Title: Ubuntu 16.10 installer sets metadata_csum option on ext4 partition which is incompatible with other LTS Ubuntu versions To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/e2fsprogs/+bug/1601997/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

> The fact that LXD doesn't put /var/lib/lxd itself in the ZFS pool is > intentional. I wasn't suggesting that in the general case. Creating a dataset at /var/lib/lxd has more to do with the root-on-ZFS setup, and is independent of where to place the lxd storage pool(s). I can see how that's distracting. Let's ignore that. The mountpoint problem exists just the same in this scenario: truncate -s 10G /var/lib/pool.img zpool create pool /var/lib/pool.img apt install lxd lxd init # Specify "no" to creating a pool, and "pool" as the existing dataset. # Accept the rest of the defaults. lxd launch ubuntu: You'll end up with /pool/containers and /pool/images mounted. > If you opt into using a subset of an existing pool, we assume you know > what you're doing and that you will properly configure it prior to > giving it to LXD (LXD won't create it for you so you kinda have to). It's true that the admin has to create the pool first. But they do not have to create the datasets for lxd to work. lxd will implicitly create the containers and images datasets through the use of `zfs create -p POOL/containers/foo". [Bug 1630085] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.10 beta breaks Asus Laptop touchpad behavior
Public bug reported: In 16.04 LTS, the touchpad behaved perfectly, and as soon as I stepped up to 16.10 beta the touchpad became unusable. When holding a single finger on the touchpad, without moving my finger, the cursor jumps around like crazy, and even performs clicks. When placing a second finger on the touchpad, without moving either, it gets even worse. See desktop recording clip as reference. [Bug 1582278] Fix merged to nova (stable/mitaka)
Reviewed: https://review.openstack.org/317065 Committed: https://git.openstack.org/cgit/openstack/nova/commit/?id=2150d5d8e17323bc9fce11903da3afffda211d26 Submitter: Jenkins Branch:stable/mitaka commit 2150d5d8e17323bc9fce11903da3afffda211d26 Author: Jay PipesDate: Mon Apr 4 12:32:56 2016 -0700 pci: eliminate DB lookup PCI requests during claim The nova.pci.manager.PciDevTracker.claim_instance() accepted an Instance object and called nova.objects.InstancePCIRequests.get_by_instance() to retrieve the PCI requests for the instance. This caused a DB lookup of the PCI requests for that instance, even though in all situations other than for migration/resize, the instance's PCI requests were already retrieved by the resource tracker. This change removes that additional DB lookup during claim_instance() by changing the instance parameter to instead be an InstancePCIRequests object and an InstanceNUMATopology object. Also in this patch is a change to nova.objects.PciDevice.claim() that changes the single parameter to an instance UUID instead of an Instance object, since nothing other than the instance's UUID was used in the method. This allows us to remove the needlessly duplicative _test_pci() method in claims.MoveClaim and will allow the next patch in the series to remove the call in nova.pci.manager.PciDevTracker.claim_instance() that re-fetches PCI requests for the supplied instance. [Bug 1630017] Re: Ubuntu 16.10 installation with root as JFS file system fails
Is this an installation done with manual partitioning? It seems to me like this is an unsupported partitioning scheme. For ppc64el, GRUB typically expects a small (8Mb) partition at the start of the disk to use as a location to install PReP. In this kind of cases, we should still have partman-prep warn the user about the lack of a PReP partition, so there is a bug in this case if that doesn't happen, regardless of whether this is manual or automatic partitioning. FWIW, I know that booting from petitboot is a slightly different subarchitecture for d-i, but I haven't been able to find the special code paths for it at a quick glance in partman; I will dig more once we have the information requested above. ** Package changed: debian-installer (Ubuntu) => partman-prep (Ubuntu) ** Changed in: partman-prep (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete ** Changed in: partman-prep (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => High -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1630017 Title: Ubuntu 16.10 installation with root as JFS file system fails To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/partman-prep/+bug/1630017/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1579265] Re: Qt dev package does not include webenginewidgets
If I'm understanding this bug report correctly, you need QtWebEngine to be in Debian. I'll assign this to myself as I have been working with the Debian Qt people to get QtWebEngine and QtWebChannel (a dependency of QtWebEngine) packaged. At the moment, QtWebChannel is in Debian, and we're waiting on some tweaks to QtWebEngine's debian/copyright file for it to be uploaded. I can reasonably predict that QtWebEngine will be in Ubuntu 17.04 before Feature Freeze. I'll keep this bug report updated. ** Changed in: qtbase-opensource-src (Ubuntu) Assignee: (unassigned) => Simon Quigley (tsimonq2) -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1579265 Title: Qt dev package does not include webenginewidgets To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/qtbase-opensource-src/+bug/1579265/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
[Bug 1624540] Re: please have lxd recommend zfs
@pitti, the ID_FS_TYPE is zfs_member, not zfs. The service is, as you listed, zed.service. Modifying your rule then is: ACTION!="remove", SUBSYSTEM=="block", ENV{ID_FS_TYPE}=="zfs_member", ENV{SYSTEMD_WANTS}+="zed.service" However, if zed.service is going to exit if there is no pool imported, this udev rule may not help. The udev event is going to fire before the pool is imported. @stgraber, running zed is less important for loopback devices. So between that and catching it on reboot, we might be "close enough". -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1624540 Title: please have lxd recommend zfs To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/lxd/+bug/1624540/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1625138] Re: package shim-signed 1.18~16.04.1+0.8-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1
Your fstab and your mount output both confirm that you have no ESP mounted or configured to be mounted. But it's also equally clear that you have an EFI system. Did you perhaps install this system in BIOS mode, and then switch it to EFI mode in the firmware afterwards? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1625138 Title: package shim-signed 1.18~16.04.1+0.8-0ubuntu2 failed to install/upgrade: subprocess installed post-installation script returned error exit status 1 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/shim-signed/+bug/1625138/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1567050] Re: Geary sometimes crashes when I open an unread mail
Hi all, this sounds like upstream bug 769010 (https://bugzilla.gnome.org/show_bug.cgi?id=769010), which was fixed in Geary 0.11.2, available from the Geary Team PPA: https://launchpad.net /~geary-team/+archive/ubuntu/releases Can you please try that version and see if it fixes this issue for you? If not, we'll need a stack trace https://wiki.gnome.org/Apps/Geary/ReportingABug#Stack_Trace to be able to debug and fix this problem.
