[Bug 1639714] [NEW] Background color can't be set in Appearance properties

2016-11-06 Thread Brice Terzaghi
Public bug reported:

Using Ubuntu 16.10 with Mate 1.16.0 up-to-date (mate-control-center
1.16.0-1). The bug didn't happen with Ubuntu 16.04 as far as I remember.

Go to Appearance properties → Background to change the desktop
background picture and color. Choose a picture that doesn't cover the
whole desktop (i.e. smaller than the screen resolution and don't set it
to zoom − I've put a 600 × 600 example there if needed: http://pix
.toile-libre.org/upload/original/1478503543.png). Choose any color for
the background: it displays black. Choose a gradient, set two different
colors: it works; set twice the same color: black again.

It's worth noting that the preview thumbnail shows black when setting a
single color and the correct ones when setting a gradient, even when
both colors are set the same.

Not sure why it can't apply the color when it's uniform and reverts to
black. There's no error in the terminal when launching mate-appearance-
properties through it and changing the color.

I have tried to set the background color with xsetroot but it doesn't
seem to work. Not sure if it's related to the issue or if I use is in a
wrong way (or if it can't work with Mate anyway because reasons).

Hi Joseph,
The issue still happen with latest daily image at

It is because AHCI driver is still missing from this ISO image.

[Bug 1611010] Re: yakkety desktop - non-english installation crashes with /plugininstall.py: ValueError: invalid literal for int() with base 10: ''

2016-11-06 Thread Dean
Problem installing Xenial most recent daily desktop AMD64 builds (3
previous days) while selecting English keyboard and Ecuador timezone.

Same problem of crash during setting language.

Workaround was updating sources.list, update, reinstall apt tzdata
language-selector-common language-pack-en-base language-pack-en
(everything was up to date so I doubt this did anything) followed by
running ubiquity and selecting a US location to match the keyboard.

This went fine after various failed attempts and ubiquity previously crashing
every time on setting language. Now location merely needs to be updated on
reboot, if it isn't broken.
Perhaps doing this after all other things in the installer...

Confirmed when I was trying to install zesty recently. Can't remember if
I chose to download packages during install. Certainly I would not have
had wifi set up yet.

Also confirmed by bug 1411670.

If networking problems are causing this then in the least we need better
error handling/messages.

[Bug 1639660] Re: apparmor-parse cannot parse profile with stacking //

2016-11-06 Thread John Johansen
Yuqiong Sun,

the parser is sensitive to white space. If your profile has white space
in the name you will need to use quotes around it

  /root/test/read px -> "readtest1 //& readtest2",

otherwise you will need to remove the white space and specify it as

  /root/test/read px -> readtest1//,

ideally the parser would properly handle white space in this situation
and properly parse this but at the moment it doesn't. If this fixes
your problem I will mark this bug as a wish list feature. If not please
let us know so we can further debug the problem.

[Bug 1571537] Re: ntfsclone not compatible with Clonezilla

2016-11-06 Thread TTimo
Looks like it's invoking 'ntfsclone' with the command line options that
work for 'partclone.ntfs' - which don't appear compatible.

[Bug 1405669] Re: modprobe manpage mentions aliases, but doesn't explain the term or reference and explanation

2016-11-06 Thread Karl-Philipp Richter
apport information

** Tags added: apport-collected yakkety

** Description changed:

also referenced manpages of `modinfo` and `insmod` don't explain what an
alias is and give no reference to an explanation. That makes getting
started with kernel modules overly hard for beginners and it'd just be
one reference or half a sentence necessary to explain

Apparently there're even two types of aliases (built-ins in `.ko` files
and user defined)[1]. That _needs_ to be explained!!

  Specifying a `KernelDriver` containing `_` or `-` in the `nvidia` driver
section of `/etc/bumblebee/bumblebee.conf` causes `optirun bash` to fail
  with

  [ 533.997079] [ERROR]Cannot access secondary GPU - error: [XORG]

[ 533.997196] [ERROR]Aborting because fallback start is disabled.

if `nvidia_352` or `nvidia-352` has been specified. Futhermore this is
impossible to debug without massive loss of sanity if `optirun` doesn't
tell where configuration options have been picked up from if a critical
  error occured. `grep -r 'nvidia352' /etc/bumblebee/` returns no result.

It appears that upstream 1.3.1+ plugin requires "Strong" secrets, PSKs are
discouraged.

[Bug 1620806] Re: gedit edit window is transparent when using Ambiance and Radiance themes

2016-11-06 Thread Chris Martin
Just a quick update..
The content of the .xinputrc file was a single line

   run_im xim

I think that this may have something to do with the problem.

.xinputrc is generated by language settings when you change the input type.
in 16.10 when I set the input type to none the new .xinputrc file contains

   run_im none

And the background is still OK in gedit & calc etc

So the problem is the content of the .xinputrc file and not the presence
of the file.

[Bug 1639200] Re: Update webkitgtk to 2.14.2 in yakkety

2016-11-06 Thread Jeremy Bicha
** Description changed:

  Impact
  ==
webkit2gtk 2.14.2 is a new bugfix release in the stable 2.14 series

  https://webkitgtk.org/2016/11/03/webkitgtk2.14.2-released.html

+ Same justification as bug 1632535 ...

- Same justification as bug 1632535. It's likely that the 2.14 series contains
unannounced security fixes that will be not be backported to previous stable
releases. Once the next Security Advisory is posted, we will be looking into
releasing 2.14 to Ubuntu 16.04 LTS. It's good to get more real-world testing
from Ubuntu 16.10 users first. Plus it fixes some bugs affecting 16.10.
+ https://webkitgtk.org/security/WSA-2016-0006.html was just posted. New
+ security fixes are not backported to previous stable releases, so I
+ believe we will be updating Ubuntu 16.04 LTS with the 2.14 series like
+ we did with the 2.12 series recently.

+ Because of the non-trivial regression potential, it's good to get some
+ real-world testing first. Plus it fixes some bugs affecting 16.10.

  Test Case
  =
  - Run epiphany-browser, evolution and yelp since those apps currently use
webkitgtk's unstable DOM API
  - Run the ubiquity slideshow. Instructions for doing this without needing to
run the installer are at

  https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/webkit2gtk/+bug/1618956/comments/4

+ I have done this testing from my PPA. Please don't permanently add this
+ PPA to your system as I use it for a variety of packaging experiments.
+
+ https://launchpad.net/~jbicha/+archive/ubuntu/arch/
+
  Regression Potential

Low to Moderate. The diff is too large to be able to review very easily.
A few months ago, a stable webkit2gtk update (2.12.4, fixed in 2.12.5) broke
the ubiquity slideshow ( bug 1618956 ). This risk is mitigated because we are
specifically testing for that now.

No, it isn't. The referenced link says that it is no longer supported by
Chrome, but that doesn't mean flashplugin-installer is dead. The plugin
works with firefox; the flashplugin-installer package successfully downloads
the file and the warning message mentioned in this bug report is just a
warning.

[Bug 1620806] Re: gedit edit window is transparent when using Ambiance and Radiance themes

2016-11-06 Thread Chris Martin
I had the same problem after the 16.04 -> 16.10 upgrade
I noticed that newly created users did NOT have the problem.
So its was probably a config issue
I resolved it by removing the "~/.xinputrc" file in my home directory. which
is not present in a new users home directory.
This has worked on all system I have upgraded to date

[Bug 1507448] Re: Kubuntu installation into external disk ruins internal disk boot whilst leaving external disk unbootable

2016-11-06 Thread Michael
I'm writing in to confirm that this problem persists in Kubuntu 16.04.1.
I used a bootable Kubuntu usb key to install Kubuntu to an external
drive, and the installer trashed my grub configuration on an *unrelated*
internal Fedora hard drive.

Workaround in case anybody sees this: unplug any hard drives that you
don't want the Kubuntu installer to touch prior to doing your
install

[Bug 1639666] [NEW] install to iscsi root needs kernel args, fails shutdown

2016-11-06 Thread Kevin Otte
Public bug reported:

For this system, a pure network boot was not practical, so USB storage
for the EFI System Partition and /boot are used.

Steps to reproduce:
- Use Ubuntu Server installer to log in to iSCSI target
- Install ESP and /boot on local USB (sda1,2)
- Install swap and /on resulting block device (sdb1,2)
- Reboot after install

Expected result:
- System boots

Actual result:
- iscsistart in the initramfs is unable to connect to the target, failing with
the error:
iscsistart: cannot make a connection to 0.0.10.46:0 (-1,22)

Workaround:
- Append
  iscsi_target_ip=2606:a000:a449:5900::4 iscsi_target_port=3260
  to the kernel command line

The system now boots.

When attempting to shut down the system, it hangs at
  Stopping Raise network interfaces...
and kernel messages
  connection1:0: ping timeout...
begin appearing due to the network being ripped out from under iSCSI.

I attempted to add _netdev to the options in fstab as suggested by
research, but this proved ineffective.

[Bug 1196239] Re: Add support for fake modes on laptop screens which only have one

2016-11-06 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I've been thinking about this - and we will implement it eventually -
but I don't think the readability of Unity8 desktop should be the
motivator. Rather, Unity8 desktop scaling should be solved with a
configurable scale factor that just makes text (and widgets
proportionally) larger without moving away from the screen's best native
resolution.

That was always the plan anyway and Unity8 probably has a scaling
feature buried inside already. We just need to find out the command (or
better get a GUI) for configuring the scale.

[Bug 1634129] Comment bridged from LTC Bugzilla

2016-11-06 Thread bugproxy
--- Comment From p...@au1.ibm.com 2016-11-06 19:55 EDT---
To test, I built kernel packages based on 4.4.0-45.66 with the two patches
mentioned in comments 6 and 11, and with that running in a HV KVM guest I was
able to boot a nested guest running the cirros image.

[Bug 1639663] [NEW] vdpau permissions incorrect in 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2

2016-11-06 Thread JeanLuke
Public bug reported:

Running version 16.04.2
vdpau only works as root in version 304.132-0ubuntu0.16.04.2.

I can run vdpauinfo as normal user and get an error, unable to create
device. Run as root (sudo vdpauinfo) and it works. Similarly, running
mythfrontend with vdpau requires sudo mythfrontend to be able to work.

The previous version 304.131 worked fine. I have temporarily fixed the
problem by rolling back to that version.

** Affects: nvidia-graphics-drivers-304 (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided
 Status: New
