[Bug 1682988] [NEW] Trying to install Lubuntu 16.0 on eeePC 701 - crashed and took existing OS with it

2017-04-14 Thread Al Ferguson
Public bug reported:

I attempted to install Lubuntu 16.0 onto my eeePC 701, (4Gb RAM, 4Gb SSD)
at the point where I was expecting to be able to select my instalation options
I suddenly got a message that (a) I had insuficient space for my selection,
even though I had not actually made a selection, and (b) a report was going to
be sent to the developers.

I selected CANCEL and quit the install, tried to reboot and that's when
my O/S (Lubuntu 14) had been trashed.

Not a big deal as I do have the *.ISO for 14 and can easily reinstall
it, its just a concerne that the install for 16 ate my existing O/S

There is no log files to send

Regards

Al

[Bug 1667114] Re: Merge 1:1.4.0-5 from Debian unstable to zesty

2017-04-14 Thread Bryan Quigley
** Description changed:

A new major release of virt-manager has been released and is in debian
  unstable/testing.

I'll go through all the Ubuntu changes to confirm what's still needed.

  Still to check:
    * Merge from Debian. Remaining changes: (LP: #1556671)
  - debian/control:
+ Depend on gir1.2-appindicator3-0.1 for appindicator support.
+ Add lsb-release to Build-Depends so we can detect whether we're
running on Ubuntu or Debian.
+ Change Recommends to libvirt-bin instead of libvirt-daemon-system
    which isn't available in Ubuntu
  - debian/rules:
+ Set qemu user to libvirt-qemu so appropriate permissions get set.
+ Set the preferred distro so we appear first in the list.
+ Remove data/gschemas.compiled generated by clean.
  - d/p/virtinst/9006_fix_path_to_qemu-dm.patch: drop the full path from
qemu-dm as already done for hvmloader and pygrub. The Xen tools will
handle this and add the missing path.
  - d/p/use_ubuntu_package_names.patch: Suggest installing the packages
that are actually available in Ubuntu.
- - d/p/leave-mnemonics-alone-on-focus-change.patch: Leave
-   gtk-enable-mnemonics setting alone under Unity when windows change
-   focus.
+
  - d/p/mark-libvirt-lxc: Clearly mark the LXC connections as being
libvirt-lxc, to avoid confusion due to differing features and
    configurations.
  - d/p/add_qemu_binaries.patch: add the actual binary name from the qemu
packages so default hypervisor detection works properly on first run.
- - d/p/prefer-qemu.patch: Prefer QEMU as the default URI, even if it's not
installed.
+
+ - d/p/prefer-qemu.patch: Prefer QEMU as the default URI, even if
+ it's not installed.

- Definitely Needs upstreaming:
+ Still needed on unity - upstream?
+ - d/p/leave-mnemonics-alone-on-focus-change.patch: Leave
+ gtk-enable-mnemonics setting alone under Unity when windows change
focus.
+
+
+ Upstreaming:
  - d/p/use_qxl_for_ubuntu.patch: use qxl by default for Ubuntu VMs, it
seems to work better than vmvga now. Upstreaming -
https://github.com/virt-manager/virt-manager/pull/23

  Not upstream:
  - d/p/more_helpful_error_message.patch: explain to the user why
connecting to qemu:///system failed and how to fix it.

  No Longer Needed
  * debian/patches/0001-details-Fix-screenshot-on-F24-rawhide-bz-1297988.patch:
Cherry-pick from upstream. Fix screenshot capture with newer
  gdk-pixbuf/pygobject. (LP: #1571702) - Upstream

Fix virt-install so that it can install 16.04 and newer images.
Error message is 'Couldn't find hvm kernel for Ubuntu tree
  Closes (LP: #1634304) - urlfetcher_Fix_ubuntu_location.patch - upsteam

    * debian/patches/use_virtio_for_pseries_disks.patch: virtinst: Use
virtio bus type for disks on pSeries machines. Closes LP: #1597610.
Upstream

  - d/p/virtinst/dont_disable_vmport.patch: Don't disable vmport even
if we're using spice, as this prevents having a seamless mouse when
using Ubuntu as a guest. - I have seamless mouse integration without
  this.

[Bug 1682986] [NEW] Ubuntu 16.04.02 install problem

2017-04-14 Thread Rodrigo García
Public bug reported:

I have a DELL-XPS-8700
I have windows 10 installed from factory
I install ubuntu 16.04 the first time and dual boot was ok
then I install fedora 25 and the three OS work ok
but the grub change and hide windows 10
I start now windows 10 from the setup machine
reading about the problem I learn a little about legacy boot and UEFI boot
for the parttions it was deducted I install ubuntu in bios boot form
the advice was to install ubuntu and fedora in UEFI form

then I erase the ubuntu 16.04 y fedora 25 partitions to reinstall
I procede to reinstall Ubuntu 16.04 from a USB
created with rufus indicated with gpt uefi
I start installation and it creates / (root) and /swap partitions
but then it reports and input/output error

ProblemType: Bug
DistroRelease: Ubuntu 16.04
Package: ubiquity 2.21.63.3

[Bug 1682701] Re: Fails To Connect To WPA2 WiFi

2017-04-14 Thread Aere Greenway
I upgraded a 16.10 system with working wireless, to 17.04, and after
reboot, the wireless no longer connects.

The wireless sees the wireless networks available, but it will not
connect.

I have a long WPA2 passphrase (22 characters, with upper and lower case
letters).

[Bug 1682631] Re: gnome-shell crashes in libmozjs on x86_64

2017-04-14 Thread Brian Vincent
I also tried adding
export DEB_CFLAGS_MAINT_APPEND = -fno-strict-aliasing
to debian/rules. I don't know much about debian packages and how that would
normally work, but I don't see how that would ever get picked up by their
config/make system. It doesn't appear to be having any effect at all.

Here's what I did to get the test failures down to 0 on gcc6:

1. modify the code at line 3908 in js/src/configure.in to do -fno-
strict-aliasing no matter what the gcc version is:

dnl
dnl = Disable -fstrict-aliasing with GCC
dnl = See bugs 821502 and 832623.
dnl
if test -n "$GNU_CC" -a -z "$CLANG_CC"; then
CFLAGS="$CFLAGS -fno-strict-aliasing"
CXXFLAGS="$CXXFLAGS -fno-strict-aliasing"
fi

2. cd js/src
3. autoconf2.13 #regen configure
4. ./configure#reconfigure
5. make clean
6. make #watch and see the -fno-strict-aliasing
7.
make check-jstests | grep -c UNEXPECTED-FAIL
0

PS. This seems to be mostly unrelated to the fix-gcc6-segfault.patch.
If I remove fix-gcc6-segfault.patch, the test failures go back up. So
what I'm purposing doesn't replace the need for fix-gcc6-segfault.patch.
I think it should be treated separately.
