I also have a raid, but the raid is not for boot only storage.
Installer tried to use the raid to install grub, hope its not trashed my

I think I should explain how I came across this issue.
A friend asked me to install Linux on his laptop so I loaded several
distros onto partitions on my own pc to demonstrate and let him choose
which he liked. Ubuntu Mate was one.

at startup, or was that a one-off?
If the former, can you please install the debug symbols and launch
chromium from a terminal, that should produce a more verbose stacktrace
that we can use as a starting point for further

Apparently (dmesg.txt) there is some mediatek driver doing some DMA
