[Bug 1702223] Re: Surround (garbled) sound played to headset port

It works for MacBook Pro.
It seems audio is erroneously processed as surround sound, the chip has a
multiple of channel configurations

One can also do Test Speakers in GNOME settings Sound, this also
produces mono for headset but works for internal speakers

[Bug 1702223] [NEW] Surround (garbled) sound played to headset port

2017-07-03 Thread Richard
Public bug reported:

When using analog headset plugged into the audio port, sound is mono and
processed so voice is silenced

If played to speakers it works fine

After killing pulseaudio at a bit of trouble, once can test using:

speaker-test --channels 2 --nloops 1 --device plughw:PCH,0

which works fine for internal speakers, but is mono for headset
If you watch youtube video, dialog is suppressed while other sounds may work

This can be somewhat patched by going into alsamixer and set the left
and right Headset channels to different levels using q/z and e/c keys

This appears to be a bug in snd_hda_intel

[Bug 1702221] [NEW] Get spammed by PCIe Bus Error

2017-07-03 Thread Pavel Moukhataev
Public bug reported:

I'm spammed by PCIe Bus Error. I get this error 10 times per second in console.
Error is:
pcieport :00:1c.0: PCIe Bus Error: severity=Corrected, type=Physical Layer,
id=00e0(Receiver ID) device [8086:a112] error status/mask=0001/
pcieport :00:1c.0: [ 0] Receiver Error (First)

I collected some sys info:
lspci -vt>lspci_vt.log
lspci -nnv>lspci_nnv.log
lscpu>lscpu.log
cat /proc/cpuinfo >proc_cpuinfo.log
uname -a>uname_a.log
lshw>lshw.log
lsusb -v>lsusb_v.log
dmidecode>dmidecode.log
lsb_release -a>lsb_release.log
iwconfig >iwconfig.log

I run latest Ubuntu 17.04 on VivoBook Pro N752VX notebook
(https://www.asus.com/Laptops/VivoBook-Pro-N752VX/specifications/).

This pcieport 1c.0 is connected to RTL8192EE PCIe Wireless Network
Adapter (see lspci_vt.log).

I can disable this message by adding pci=nomsi kernel parameter, but
this is not a bug fix, only a workaround. Also after appling this
parameter wifi connection is quite slow and unstable. On windows 10 I
get approx ping time 3ms to my wifi router. On Linux ping time is
min/avg/max 5.548/60.137/261.145 with very good signal strength (see
iwconfig.log).

[Bug 1702220] [NEW] installation issues: fonts and launcher icon

2017-07-03 Thread Dave Touretzky
Public bug reported:

Running xemacs21 on Ubuntu 16.04. xemacs was installed via "apt-get
install xemacs21". On startup, I consistently get this message:

Warning: Cannot convert string
"-*-helvetica-bold-r-*-*-*-120-*-*-*-*-iso8859-*" to type FontStruct
Warning: Missing charsets in String to FontSet conversion

Also, instead of getting a nice Xemacs icon in the dock, I get the
generic gray icon with a question mark.

These seem to be issues with the package installation process.

[Bug 1702165] Re: Libreoffice writter crashes when JDK is enabled

2017-07-03 Thread Olivier Tilloy
Thanks for the report taiebot65. Could you please run:

apport-collect 1702165

to attach more information to the bug?

Is that libreoffice installed from the ubuntu repositories, or the snap
package? Are there any crash files related to libreoffice under
/var/crash/ ?

[Bug 1702206] Re: xrandr does not show actual resolution monitor is running

2017-07-03 Thread Ubuntu Foundations Team Bug Bot
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better. It seems that your bug report is not filed about a
specific source package though, rather it is just filed against Ubuntu
in general. It is important that bug reports be filed about source
packages so that people interested in the package can find the bugs
about it. You can find some hints about determining what package your
bug might be about at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Bugs/FindRightPackage.
You might also ask for help in the #ubuntu-bugs irc channel on Freenode.

To change the source package that this bug is filed about visit
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/1702206/+editstatus and add the
package name in the text box next to the word Package.

[This is an automated message. I apologize if it reached you
inappropriately; please just reply to this message indicating so.]

larger than the snap plugin can handle - can you confirm if this occurs
after uninstalling pin-town? I don't think this is related but worth
checking (and I'll fix that anyway).

Thanks.

One final question: Could you please try booting Ubuntu 17.04 (no need
to install it) and see if the bug occurs in the live session there? If
not then this would probably be a duplicate of bug 1585084.

[Bug 1376903] Re: Caps lock delay

2017-07-03 Thread Paul Seo
So is this halted again?
Is there basically no hope to fixing this bug that drives me crazy day and
night?

I'm honestly starting to feel Windows and Macs have better support and faster
responses. But then I guess that's the penalty of having an open source OS.
Just frustrating how I really need the bash of Ubuntu but not only games but
also the keyboard isn't fully supported on Ubuntu.

At least the mouse is supported though I must add my touchscreen too is
worthless on Ubuntu. Sigh

[Bug 1614191] Re: [Blocker] Upgrades are failing with error : Dpkg::Tools::Options::/usr/bin/apt-listchanges::InfoFD should be greater than 2

2017-07-03 Thread Launchpad Bug Tracker
This bug was fixed in the package apt-listchanges - 3.13

---
apt-listchanges (3.13) unstable; urgency=low

  * Fix changelog parser to mark files as being in the Debian changelog
format *before* checking if the latest version has been seen already.
  * Refactor apt-listchanges.py to remove duplicated code.
  * Rewrite main loop of program in order to limit a number of calls to
`apt-get changelog':
1. First group packages by the source package and next process all binary
packages from the same source package at once.
2. Sort the packages in each group by their binary versions descending.
3. Exclude those of them whose versions were already seen or are lower
(except for the binnmu suffix) than the maximal version, i.e. the
version of the first package in the group.
4. Process the remaining packages until valid changelog or news entries
are found, and call `apt-get changelog' on the first package if and
only if no such changelog entries are found, and apt-listchanges is
not configured to display the news entries only.
  * Override the LESS environment variable to make sure it does not contain
certain flags like -F that might cause less program to quit before even
user is able to see the files generated by the program.
  * Fix an issue with showing changelog entries with unrecognised urgencies
(see #866358): map such an urgency to a non-zero value and use proper
`is None' check for testing the mapped value.
  * Fix an exception, introduced in 2.87, occurring when the `--since' option
is used with the invalid number of `.deb' files. Clarify the error message
shown in such a case.
  * In the `--verbose' mode when apt-listchanges is configured to display
`news' only append the informational notes to the news entries instead
of creating changelog entries.
  * Don't permit `--since' and `--show-all' to be used together. Also make
sure that passing one of them in the command line overrides any eventual
config file setting related to the other one.
  * Fix a spelling typo in `retrieve' (closes: #866644).

Hi urbalazs,

Looks like your machine is missing the /etc/nginx/nginx.conf file as
mentioned in the status output:

Any idea why that file (or the containing directory) is missing?

[Bug 1700373] Re: intel-microcode is out of date, version 20170511 fixes errata on 6th and 7th generation platforms

2017-07-03 Thread Dave Chiluk
I should also mention that we will be following Debian's lead and not
updating this for Trusty. Lack of early upload being one of the big
reasons for this.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]

  * A security fix has been made available as part of intel-microcode
  * It is advisable to apply it
  * Thus an SRU of the latest intel-microcode is desirable for all stable
releases

  [Test Case]

  * Upgrade intel-microcode package, if it is already installed / one is
  running on Intel CPUs

  * Reboot and verify no averse results, and/or that microcode for your
- cpu was loaded by expecting
+ cpu was loaded as expected.

  [Test case reporting]
  * Please paste the output of:

  dpkg-query -W intel-microcode
  grep -E 'model|stepping' /proc/cpuinfo | sort -u
  journalctl -k | grep microcode

  [Regression Potential]
Microcode are proprietary blobs, and can cause any number of new errors and
regressions. Microcode bugs have been reported before, therefore longer than
usual phasing and monitoring of intel-microcode bugs should be done with extra
care.

+ [Other]
+ caml discussion describing test case to reproduce the crash.
+

  [Original bug report]

NB: I am *not* directly affected by this bug.

Henrique emailed a warning to Debian devel today [1] on a potentially
serious issue with (sky|kaby)lake processors. Excerpt:

"This warning advisory is relevant for users of systems with the Intel
processors code-named "Skylake" and "Kaby Lake". These are: the 6th and
7th generation Intel Core processors (desktop, embedded, mobile and
HEDT), their related server processors (such as Xeon v5 and Xeon v6), as
well as select Intel Pentium processor models.

TL;DR: unfixed Skylake and Kaby Lake processors could, in some
situations, dangerously misbehave when hyper-threading is enabled.
Disable hyper-threading immediately in BIOS/UEFI to work around the
problem. Read this advisory for instructions about an Intel-provided
  fix."

It is probably a good idea to:
  (1) issue a warning to our users about this;
  (2) update intel-microcode on all our supported releases

I leave the discussion on whether this can have security implications to
  others.

2017-07-03 Thread Dave Chiluk
I just pushed uploads for this into the x, and y queues. I wanted to
hold off for a few days to give those on zesty/artful to sniff test this
before I pushed on the SRU.

I have tested this on X+skylake and X+sandy-bridge-e *(that was just to
make sure that we didn't break non skylake and kabylake cpus).

[Bug 1639517] Re: [HP Pavilion Notebook - 17-g164ng] black screen when booting

2017-07-03 Thread FFab
I suggest to change the importance of tis bug from "low" to "high"!

I bought this notebook in May 2016; installed was windows 10. I hardly
use windows. Additionally, for "productivity" work, I installed 3x linux
- at that time kubuntu and ubuntu 14.04 with amd driver fglrx.

I upgraded 1 installation to 16.04, because while working 14.04 often
suddenly "died", i.e. no further keyboard or mouse input was possible;
no reboot was possible, I had to shutdown by pressing the off-button
for several-seconds.

16.04 does not support fglrx, it can only be started by using kernel parameter
nomodeset.
Hoping this situation would change, I tested all new kernels and versions. One
effect was, three times I had to set up the pc completely, also recovering win
10 - that lasted every time about one week:

E.g. installing 16.10 at a seperate partition and starting without any
workaround parameters, the esp (efi system partition) was destroyed, I
was not able to repair the installion.

Meanwhile, for productivity use, I have changed to a tower. The hp
pavilion is only used for testing graphic driver support!
