[Bug 1574746] Re: Enable support for libsoxr

2017-07-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
As I understand it, pulseaudio is in "main" and so is only allowed to depend on
other packages in "main". soxr on the other hand is in "universe", see:
https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/libsoxr

So you may have to work through the process of getting libsoxr moved into main
before we can update pulseaudio to explicitly depend on it:

[Bug 1321854] Re: useradd doesn't add the default shell to /etc/passwd entry

2017-07-04 Thread Bob Ziuchkovski
I just ran into the same problem on Ubuntu 16.04:

$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS
Release:16.04
Codename:   xenial
$ cat /etc/default/useradd
SHELL=/bin/bash
$ useradd -D
GROUP=100
HOME=/home
INACTIVE=-1
EXPIRE=
SHELL=/bin/bash
SKEL=/etc/skel
CREATE_MAIL_SPOOL=no
$ sudo useradd testuser
$ getent passwd testuser
testuser:x:1081:1082::/home/testuser:

I expected testuser to show /bin/bash for the shell, but that's not the
case.

[Bug 1700692] Re: FTBFS on i386: dbaccess_RowSetClones unit test segfaults

2017-07-04 Thread Olivier Tilloy
It’s been reported in debian that libreoffice writer is crashing at
startup with java enabled, on 32 bits only with their latest kernel
update. This smells like the same issue, and one that is affecting the
actual application, not just the unit tests. See https://bugs.debian.org

2017-07-04 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello,

This shows that you installed a dkms module on a SecureBoot-enabled
system, which requires the shim package to guide you through the
disabling of SecureBoot; but your package installation was done in a way
that the package maintainer script had no way to prompt you. What
process did you follow to install the bbswitch-dkms package? All known
bugs in all current releases have been fixed, so it's unclear why you
experienced this problem.

[Bug 568704] Re: debian-installer preseed "d-i mirror/http/proxy" sets env http_proxy

2017-07-04 Thread Thomas Antepoth
This issue is still the case using 16.04.

Worked around this using:

#
# d-i proxy sets the proxy globally and not for pkgs only
# see also:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/568704
#
unset http_proxy

quite on top of the %POST section of my kickstart file. Thanks for the
original poster who gave the inspiration for that.

[Bug 1702056] Re: perf broken on 4.11.0-9-generic (artful): /usr/lib/linux-tools/4.11.0-9-generic/perf: error while loading shared libraries: libbfd-2.28-system.so: cannot open shared object file: No

2017-07-04 Thread Trent Lloyd
Doing a quick google, it seems third party binaries can get linked
against this shared library as well possibly. Ran apport-collect for
the extra logs; and both today's binutils and kernel upgrade haven't
fixed it.

Thinking we might need to propose for affecting binutils?

** Also affects: binutils (Ubuntu)
   Importance: Undecided
   Status: New

** Changed in: binutils (Ubuntu)
   Status: New => Confirmed

** Changed in: linux (Ubuntu)

2017-07-04 Thread Trent Lloyd

** Tags added: apport-collected

** Description changed:

  I am unable to launch perf on 4.11.0-9-generic (artful) running on
  artful-proposed

  /usr/lib/linux-tools/4.11.0-9-generic/perf: error while loading shared
  libraries: libbfd-2.28-system.so: cannot open shared object file: No
  such file or directory

  It seems this library is provided by binutils, however the symlink
  doesn't exist like it does on my xenial system for comparison.

  lathiat@ubuntu:~$ dpkg -L binutils|grep bfd|grep so
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd-2.28.51-system.20170627.so

  lathiat@ubuntu:~$ ls /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/*libbfd*
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd-2.28.51-powerpc.20170627.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd-2.28.51-system.20170627.so

  On xenial:
  root@hyper:~# ls /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/*libbfd*
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd-2.26.1-system.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd.a
  /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd-2.26-system.so
/usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libbfd.so

  Not clear to me where the bug lies here, so starting with the 'perf' binary
by way of the kernel package. But may be an issue with something else. I did
notice quickly running 'ldd' in /usr/bin that it seems other files are linking
against the above so directly.

[Bug 1698282] Re: Totem uses dramatically higher CPU than any other video player

2017-07-04 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Confirmed the problem is the gstreamer-clutter plugin (which only totem
seems to use by default). You can see the same problem here:

High CPU:
gst-launch-1.0 filesrc location=bbb_sunflower_1080p_60fps_normal.mp4 ! qtdemux
! vaapidecodebin ! clutterautovideosink

Low CPU:
gst-launch-1.0 filesrc location=bbb_sunflower_1080p_60fps_normal.mp4 ! qtdemux
! vaapidecodebin ! glimagesink

** Package changed: totem (Ubuntu) => clutter-gst-3.0 (Ubuntu)

Note that you may notice very high CPU usage with clutter rendering
(especially in totem). Although that's a concurrent problem, it should
be treated separately; in bug 1698282.

[Bug 1623658] Re: livestatus socket permission

2017-07-04 Thread Haw Loeung
I don't think this is an issue with the check-mk package. I had a look
and no where does it specify the socket to use, that's actually user
configured when enabling - you need to add 'broker_module' config like
the below to /etc/nagios3/nagios.cfg:

| broker_module=/usr/lib/check_mk/livestatus.o
/var/lib/nagios3/livestatus/socket

Maybe the charm (or whatever configures livestatus) move the socket to
/var/run?

  Using Ubuntu artful with linux-image-4.10.0-26-generic 4.10.0-26.30 and

  file on an sshfs filesystem.

  Sometimes when I suspend I get:

  ...and the system fails to suspend.

  AFAICT, this is https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=656992 and
  https://lists.debian.org/debian-kernel/2011/10/msg00412.html has an
  extensive explanation. The corresponding Debian bug was closed long ago
  due to inactivity. It isn't exactly bug 388419 though since that is
  about behaviour after resume, rather than failure to suspend.

  This affects sshfs-fuse, but it sounds like a full fix would be in the
  kernel. I wonder if it's possible to work around in userspace packaging
  in sshfs-fuse, though, by arranging some action in userspace before
  suspend?

- It seems unlikely that this will be addressed any time soon, but it'd be
- nice to keep a bug open in Launchpad so that users can have a single
- rallying point.

[Bug 1702240] Re: [Ubuntu 17.04] 'make test' failures seen when e2fsprogs instrumented with 'undefined behavior sanitizer'

2017-07-04 Thread Theodore Ts'o
You don't need to check with upstream e2fsprogs; I do keep an eye on
Launchpad bugs.

None of UBSAN warnings are actually dangerous assuming sane[1] compilers
and reasonable architecture. (e.g., a compiler that can correctly
compile the Linux kernel and an architecture that run Linux should have
no problems with e2fsprogs).

[1] "Any sufficiently advanced compiler is indistinguishable from a
malicious adversary."

Still, it's better to fix these sorts of issues than not, so please see
the attached patch. It will be included in the next release of
e2fsprogs.

[Bug 1701648] Re: app never starts in Ubuntu 16.04.2 due to missing python-cairo module

2017-07-04 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Added SRU description, though also found bug 1702367 which affects 16.04
and later... Wish I found that earlier :/

** Description changed:

+ [Impact]
+
+ * smartshine has an insufficient list of dependencies, so users might
+ end up in a situation where required dependencies happens to not be
+ installed.
+
+
+ [Test Case]
+ 1. Install smartshine
+ 2. Verify that python-cairo and python-gi are installed.
+ 3. Verify smartshine starts without any dialogs with errors.
+ 4. Attempt to uninstall either python-cairo or python-gi (try one at a time).
When attempting to uninstall either libarary, smartshine should be listed as
"will also be removed".
+
+ Before the fix, both libraries could be removed, at which point
+ smartshine would print an error message in the terminal.
+
+
+ [Regression Potential]
+ There should be no changes in package itself, only additional dependencies
have been added. Thus, more packages are installed.
+
+ I was clicking around in the application and found bug 1702367 though,
+ which is a bit more severe than this one. Even though it is possible to
+ run the application, it won't do much. Note that this occurs prior to
+ the patch, so it is not a regression.
+
+
+ [Original report]
+
  In Ubuntu 16.04.2 when is installed smartshine from the official repository
it does not start.
  If the app is started by the GUI there is no error , if the app is started by
the terminal is shown a generic error "An error occured. Python or one of its
sub modules is absent..."
  The error can be solved simply installing python-cairo from the official
repository.
  ps: sorry for English not perfectly correct

[Bug 1702367] [NEW] smartshine unable to add photos on Ubuntu 16.04 and later

2017-07-04 Thread Hans Joachim Desserud
Public bug reported:

Steps to reproduce:
1. Run smartshine (preferably from a terminal)
2. Click the button to "add photos"
3. Select a random image

Expected behaviour:
The image is loaded and displayed in the application.

Actual behaviour:
The application seems to load, but never finishes. The following error message
is printed in the terminal:

Exception in thread Thread-1:
Traceback (most recent call last):
  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/threading.py", line 801, in __bootstrap_inner
self.run()

  File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PIL/Image.py", line 2063, in fromstring
"Please call frombytes() instead.")
Exception: fromstring() has been removed. Please call frombytes() instead.

I strongly suspect the API in PIL
(https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pillow) has changed, and
smartshine is trying to use the old one.

The image loads as expected in Ubuntu 14.04, while I get the error
message in 16.04. Note that 16.04 seems to be the first Ubuntu release
with version 3.x of the PIL library, 14.04 used 2.x.

I also get the same error message on 17.04 and presumably artful. I just
discovered this when clicking around in the application related to bug
1701648, though I have less of an idea how one might go about fixing
this.

pixbuf2Image
+ return Image.fromstring("RGB",(width,height),pb.get_pixels() )
+   File "/usr/lib/python2.7/dist-packages/PIL/Image.py", line 2063, in
fromstring
+ "Please call frombytes() instead.")
  Exception: fromstring() has been removed. Please call frombytes() instead.
+
+ I strongly suspect the API in PIL
+ (https://launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/pillow) has changed, and
+ smartshine is trying to use the old one.
+
+ The image loads as expected in Ubuntu 14.04, while I get the error
+ message in 16.04. Note that 16.04 seems to be the first Ubuntu release
+ with version 3.x of the PIL library, 14.04 used 2.x.
+
+ I also get the same error message on 17.04 and presumably artful. I just
+ discovered this when clicking around in the application related to bug
+ 1701648, though I have less of an idea how one might go about fixing
+ this.
