[Bug 1584542] Re: Wifi Adapter Fails to come up after restart. after power off works fine

2017-07-23 Thread Aficionado
Just saw a message in January 2017 about a fix (well, it seemed to me
just another workaround). Maybe it is fixed in 4.9.6 or 7. I"ll try.

[Bug 1705981] [NEW] Chromium doesn't follow flash deprecation guidelines

2017-07-23 Thread Fink Nottle
Public bug reported:

Chrome has set the global policy for flash to "ask first" for a while.
Yet, chromium will always play flash content without user consent if the
adobe-flashplugin package is installed on the system.

Test: Visit http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/about/ on chrome and
chromium. Per default policy, chrome will ask for user consent. Chromium
will not.

Expected Behaviour: Chromium should also ask the user first.

Version: Chromium 59.0.3071.109 Built on Ubuntu , running on Ubuntu
16.04

** Affects: chromium-browser (Ubuntu)
 Importance: Undecided

[Bug 1609242] Re: Kernels 4.3-4.8 result in blackscreen - Intel Ivybridge

2017-07-23 Thread Kai-Heng Feng
You need to do a kernel bisection.
Build kernel yourself will be a much faster process.

Also, give daily build iso [1] a try - maybe the fix is in userspace.

[Bug 1579142] Re: Evince windows cannot be resized after upgrade to Xenial

2017-07-23 Thread John McPherson
still happens in 17.04.

This happens if using the Ambiance theme with gnome-flashback, so I
think it is theme related and not specifically any app window. You can
work around this by modifying your .config/gtk-3.0/gtk.css file to leave
some margin space around your window, like:

.background.csd decoration { margin: 10px; }

[see

[Bug 1705953] Re: Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
The version in 16.04 does not automatically remove the hardcoded values,
so there will have to be a different solution. This version (3.20) also
populates based on Ubuntu reviews, which is not present in 16.10
onwards.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values
and snaps from the "featured" snap store section. As snaps are the newest and
preferred method of installing things in Ubuntu it should show these before the
other options.
+ The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values,
values based on Ubuntu reviews and snaps from the "featured" snap store
section. As snaps are the newest and preferred method of installing things in
Ubuntu it should show these before the other options.

  [Test Case]
  1. Open GNOME Software
  2. Look at "Editor's Picks" section

  Expected result:
  This section contains seven of the snaps from the "featured" snap store
section.

  Observed result:
  This section contains a mix of .deb and snaps. Some snaps may not be shown
due to not being able to fit them all in.

  [Regression Potential]
  Solution is to ensure the popular snaps are populated first. This stops the
hardcoded values from being added.

[Bug 1705973] [NEW] miral-shell fails to shutdown on Ctrl-C when splashscreen is occulded before finishing

2017-07-23 Thread Chris Halse Rogers
Public bug reported:

To reproduce:
1) Start miral-shell
2) Quickly start a fullscreen client (eg: mir_demo_client_eglplasma or

[Bug 1705411] Re: gnome shell stops showing appindicators

2017-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I believe Gnome Shell puts app indicator icons in a hidden tray in the
bottom left of the screen. Try moving your mouse down there. And if they
don't appear, try also reverting your custom launcher because that might
be preventing the icons from revealing themselves. Please also try with
the default Ubuntu theme...

[Bug 1705882] Re: Bluetooth connection to device fails from Ubuntu 16.04

2017-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
I was experiencing similar problems, sometimes, until recently. The problem
went away for me more recently in 17.10. Can you please try live booting:
   http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/
and see if the problem is fixed there in 17.10?

[Bug 1650895] Re: Several new Asus laptops are missing touchpad support

2017-07-23 Thread Brendan McGrath
These messages come from the i2c_hid module, which is a module that sits
between the hid-aus driver and the i2c driver. The message indicates
that the i2c_hid module received an invalid INPUT report and has
discarded it. The hid-asus driver is never made aware that this
occurred.

I can think of three possible causes:
a) an electronic signalling issue;
b) a firmware issue; or
c) a proprietary function of the device

There's little that can be done for a) or b) - it's effectively faulty
(or poorly shielded) hardware. For c) - if there were documentation we
might be able to do something. But it would likely require a quirk at
the lower levels (i.e. the i2c_hid module). And given (in my experience)
the minimal impact of these messages - that might be something the
kernel maintainers would consider undesirable.

You could investigate further by modifying the i2c_hid module to dump
the contents of the discarded message. But since a recent change to the
i2c_hid module (which put a sleep inbetween the POWER ON and RESET
commands) I no longer seem to get these messages.

2017-07-23 Thread Daniel van Vugt
Thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make
Ubuntu better.

However, processing it in order to get sufficient information for the
developers failed (it does not generate an useful symbolic stack trace).
This might be caused by some outdated packages which were installed on
your system at the time of the report. Please upgrade your system to the
latest package versions. If you still encounter the crash, please file a
new report.

Thank you for your understanding, and sorry for the inconvenience!

[Bug 1705953] Re: Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Turns out the hardcoded values are only added if there is less than 5
popular apps. This is resolved by making sure the snap plugin runs
before the hardcoded plugin.

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
- The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values,
values based on Ubuntu reviews and snaps from the "featured" snap store
section. As snaps are the newest and preferred method of installing things in
Ubuntu it should show these before the other options.

  [Test Case]

potentially introduce bugs if not correctly implemented.

[Bug 1705957] [NEW] Something is wrong with the SDL2 library and its headers

2017-07-23 Thread James Miller
Public bug reported:

May also touch libsdl2-dev library.

Cannot get SDL2 to work.

Below is an example c file that calls the SDL2 library.

EXPECTED: a window with a red rectangle in it.

ACTUAL RESULTS: Instead, the background of the existing windows or
desktop shows through and no rectangle pops up.

BEGIN CODE

#include

int main()
{
  SDL_Window *window;
  SDL_Surface *surface;
  SDL_Rect rect = {0, 0, 200, 200};

  SDL_Init(SDL_INIT_EVERYTHING);

  window = SDL_CreateWindow("test", SDL_WINDOWPOS_UNDEFINED,
SDL_WINDOWPOS_UNDEFINED, 800, 600, SDL_WINDOW_SHOWN);
  if (!window) {
fprintf(stderr, "main: %s\n", SDL_GetError());
return -1;
  }

  surface = SDL_GetWindowSurface(window);
  if (!surface) {
fprintf(stderr, "main: %s\n", SDL_GetError());
return -1;
  }

  SDL_FillRect(surface, , 0x);
  SDL_UpdateWindowSurface(window);
  SDL_Delay(1000);

  SDL_DestroyWindow(window);
  SDL_Quit();
}
END CODE

How to build:  gcc example.c -lSDL2 -o example.out

The same issue happens on Debian Unstable. I also fired up a Fedora
instance and the above code compiled and worked as expected. Just not on
Debian Unstable or Ubuntu 17.04.

Here are all the various SDL packages installed at the moment:

The proposed solution is to sort the candidate editor's picks rather
than only using snaps as this would otherwise be empty if snap support
was not installed (e.g. manually uninstalled or an Ubuntu derivative
using GNOME Software).

[Bug 1705953] Re: Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Snaps were added to this section in bug 1663097.
We are planning on making a desktop specific featured snap store section [1].
This change would ideally be included with the snap prioritization change to
ensure a good section of snaps is shown.

[Bug 1705953] [NEW] Prefer snaps in "Editor's Picks"

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Public bug reported:

[Impact]
The "Editor's Picks" section currently contains a mix of hard-coded values,
values based on Ubuntu reviews and snaps from the "featured" snap store
section. As snaps are the newest and preferred method of installing things in
Ubuntu it should show these before the other options.

[Test Case]
1. Open GNOME Software
2. Look at "Editor's Picks" section

Expected result:
This section contains seven of the snaps from the "featured" snap store section.

Observed result:
This section contains a mix of .deb and snaps. Some snaps may not be shown due
to not being able to fit them all in.

[Regression Potential]
Solution is to change the sort priority of the apps to show. Could potentially
introduce bugs if not correctly implemented.

[Bug 1705951] [NEW] Freezes, crashes, returns to login screen.

2017-07-23 Thread Marcos Nascimento
Public bug reported:

I have a PC with a nVidia GeForce 6800XT graphics card. I installed
ubuntu 17.10 and have had many problems with crashes and freezes. After
login, the normal screen appears, the screen flashes and the top bar
disappears, flashes again and appears normal, but frozen. Clicking again
blinks back to the login screen. In order to access the system I was
forced to install GNOME Classic. I noticed that in ubuntu 17.04 and
ubuntu GNOME 16.04 it works normal.

[Bug 1697565] Re: Snaps without icons don't show as installed

2017-07-23 Thread Robert Ancell
Thanks Jean-Bapiste!

** Tags removed: verification-failed-done
** Tags added: verification-done-xenial

** Description changed:

  [Impact]
  Snaps without icons don't show in the installed tab. They do show in search,
because the icon is sourced from the store.

  [Test Case]
  1. Open GNOME Software
- 2. Install a snap without an icon (e.g. openscad-plars)
+ 2. Install a snap without an icon in the snap, but does have one in the store
(e.g. moon-buggy)
  3. Close GNOME Software
  4. Open GNOME Software
  5. Click "installed" tab

  Expected result:
  Installed snap is shown

  Observed result:
  Snap is not shown

  [Regression Potential]
  The code was refactored to download the store information for installed
snaps. This means the store icon shows if the installed snap didn't have one.
There is some risk of new bugs being caused by the refactoring.

[Bug 1705947] [NEW] crash in libvte when dealing with large amounts of data

For instance, doing something like

The crash is caused by a failed assertion, i.e., that uncompress()
returns Z_OK. I have managed to debug it a bit, and it appears that
uncompress returns Z_DATA_ERROR because the compressed input is
corrupted, and interestingly, consists of all zeroes.

Note that this is an arm64 system, which has a weakly ordered memory
model, so this could be a synchronization issue.

The exact same bug has been reported here, running on an arm64 based
Chromebook.

https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=862591

The reason I am reporting this against glib2.0 and not vte2.91 is that
the issue only occurs on zesty (not on yakkety), and the version of vte
between the two is identical.
