I have been running this on my kabylake laptop and skylake desktop under
X for quite some time now, and haven't hit any issues that I can

@vanvugt, the "nomodeset" is removed. After disabling the integrated
graphics, I did not need it.
I just enabled the integrated graphics and got the same behavior as before.

I was investigating the use of a single high UID user (ie, 20)
and discovered that /var/log/lastlog grew to an enormously large sparse
file:
$ ls -lh /var/log/lastlog
-rw-rw-r-- 1 root utmp 544G Jul 27 12:35 /var/log/lastlog
The file is actually quite small though:
Not sure if this is important, but I can notice the following: if I
switch to the second (or any other than me) logged user (Ctrl + Alt +
F8), it works normally. I can, then, in second Xorg session, select my
user from indicators and then log in.
And, I'm not sure if this is related, but appears
this is my /etc/init.d/smfpd

This error shows up now and then after an upgrade of a dependency without
change of the ALI version, as described in the Debian Policy for Ada.
In most cases, like this one, the origin is GCC, which does not bump its ALI
version to spare a passage through the NEW queue.
