Ok, I reproduced the problem with the following steps:
- install trusty
- install libvirt-bin
- remove (not purge!) libvirt-bin, so that the two libvirt apparmor profiles
remain in /etc/apparmor.d/
- upgrade to xenial
- install libvirt-bin. It fails (see attached apt-install-libvirt-bin.txt)

Just a note: I'm using a late 2011 iMac, with triple boot (OSX, Windows 10,
Ubuntu), and using refind as boot manager.
I was using Ubuntu 16.04 before this upgrade.

Yes, exactly. There is no issue with Kernel 4.10 (16.04 HWE or 17.04).
Current 17.10 Kernel does not boot properly. Unfortunately there are no
logs, even on persistent journald. The OS freezes after switching from

Well, I did an update this weekend and now I am not seeing the problem

aha I see the problem with the previous patch I posted here (copy
error):
"{ PCI_VDEVICE(INTEL, 0xa162), (kernel_ulong_t)_uart_info }," is
incorrrect, it should be
"{ PCI_VDEVICE(INTEL, 0xa162), (kernel_ulong_t)_i2c_info },". Whoops!
