[Bug 1571540] Re: Moving files nautilus extremely slow
I am seeing it was fixed recently but Nautilus is still copying files very slowly from SSD to SSD on a two-channel PCI-e system (although admittedly, one side is using the SATA adapter) with 16GB DDR3, most of it available. It's only using 0.9GB. Regardless wire-to-wire I should never get these speeds. It's annoying. Is that the same issue? How do I get the fix? [Bug 1720500] [NEW] data transfer status broken for usb drives
Public bug reported: While copying large files (i.e. >500MB) the window displaying the data transfer status, or progress, is totally wrong. Using Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit. When I copy a 592MB file to a USB 2.0 flash drive formatted to NTFS the transfer status climbs very fast then finishes and closes, all within a couple seconds which is too fast. Then I use udisksctrl command to unmount the USB drive, and although the window displaying the USB shows it change to unmounted, the terminal cursor just hangs for a couple minutes then finally outputs the "Unmounted" message once the file finishes copying. When copying the same file to a different USB 2.0 flash, formatted to FAT32, the status jumps immediately to i.e. 586 MB of 592 MB and hangs there for a couple minutes then closes when the transfer is done. At least this shows the file operation is still in progress, even if it appears frozen. I've tried this several times on two different machines (desktop & laptop) running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS 64-bit, and the problem is always the same as described above. On another machine running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS 32-bit the transfer progress is displayed correctly, gradually climbing then closing the window when finished. Also, when transferring from the USB drives to the host machine the progress works fine in all cases. The problems only occur when transferring to the external USB drives. It's really odd, that the localization had not produced this bug @16.04.1. Im wondering what changed after that, since the localisation @install is far from complete and has not changed, at least as far as I can tell. Anyways - I guess this bug can be called confirmed. Not sure about the priority level though. I guess that depends how many other localisations are affected as well. I tested the following languages: (even though i don't speak any of them...) Just tried french - works... no bug here. ... and tried spanish - works... no bug here. ... and tried italian - works... no bug here. ... and tried esperanto - bug, same as @german! ... and tried russian - bug, same as @german! -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1715240 Title: Server 16.04.2 & .3 Installation under Hyper-V does not show manual network configuration step To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/debian-installer/+bug/1715240/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1586528] Re: Avahi-daemon withdraws address record

This is probably a bug with Network Manager. I was able to stop the behavior by deleting the connection from the GUI menu (Ubuntu 17.04) and creating new one. Quick how to: from the network icon-> edit connections... "Network Connections" appears -> choose the one with the problem -> edit -> keep a note with your parameters in all tabs -> Cancel. [Bug 1714764] Re: Excessive dependency on gnome-session-canberra
I think it is an essential part of the Ubuntu Desktop that there be an audio cue when the login screen is ready for the benefit of users who are blind. The askubuntu link points out that all you have to do is mute the sound on the login screen to not hear the sound there any more. ** Description changed: ubuntu-desktop package depends on gnome-session-canberra package in such a way that it's impossible to remove gnome-session-canberra without removing ubuntu-desktop. This is wrong, as aforementioned package contains only few loud sounds to be played at system start, and is not an essential part of Ubuntu Desktop. I think it should be in 'recommends' section, not in 'depends'. @Sebastian Bacher(seb182). In the Gnome Tweak tool the Ubuntu dock is shown with a On/Off switch next to it. When the switch is in the "Off" position the Ubuntu dock is still displayed. It may not be your intention to allow the Ubuntu dock to be switched off (an incomprehensible stance), but having the Ubuntu dock still displayed when the On/Off switch is in an off position is a bug. Either the fact that there is an "Off" option is a bug or the fact that the dock is displayed in the "Off" position is a bug. Either way, there is a bug. It is so frustrating that the Gnome DEVS don't listen to what their users repeatedly say they want, or in this case, don't want. Some of us would like to turn the dock off. It is not such an alien concept, nor is it unreasonable. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1713020 Title: Ubuntu Dock extension cannot be disabled in the Ubuntu session To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell-extension-ubuntu-dock/+bug/1713020/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

I'm sure your calculation is more proper than mine (I have probably installed some of the packages manually). [Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages
On my computer, sudo apt install fonts-indic gives these numbers: Need to get 3,315 kB of archives. After this operation, 11.6 MB of additional disk space will be used. The comment says there were "space reasons" to have some fonts listed in desktop instead of desktop-common but I believe that doesn't apply any more. (All the Desktop flavors appear to ship those fonts except Lubuntu doesn't include fonts-liberation but Lubuntu Next does so that seems a mistake to not include that font.) https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu- seeds/ubuntu.artful/view/head:/desktop#L34 So to amend my previous question, why not move fonts-indic from 'supported' to 'desktop-common'? [Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages
@Jeremy: I remember that we talked about fonts-indic a few weeks ago. The accumulated size of the packages it pulls isn't huge - 5 MB disk space if I didn't make a mistake - and it sounds like a good idea. Or would it require a bunch of MIRs? [Bug 1719934] Re: Missing fonts in list of languages
What do you think about moving fonts-indic from 'supported' to 'live'? desktop-common in 14.04 had recommends for: * (ttf-indic-fonts-core) * (ttf-punjabi-fonts) https://bazaar.launchpad.net/~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu- seeds/platform.trusty/view/head:/desktop-common#L89 But those were dropped before 16.04 LTS. [Bug 1678187] Re: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full
I think source of the problem here is bug 1501844 and removing a linux- image-extra package causes update-initramfs to be run. If the kernel package maintainer scripts were written differently then removing linux- image and linux-image-extra would not have a problem if /boot was full, but removing linux-image-extra by itself would still be an issue as update-initramfs would be run. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1678187 Title: Removing a linux-image-extra package fails, if /boot is about full To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/initramfs-tools/+bug/1678187/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs

[Bug 1720149] Re: gnome-shell segv on wake from display or system sleep
That would appear to be very different from what we're trying to report here: 1. It's not hanging. It's presumably exiting, forcing a logout, and it all happens before the monitors are awake enough to show a picture. We're not in a hung state at any point. 2. It's not only suspend, it's wake from only display-sleep too. The rest of the computer isn't suspended or sleeping in any manner. It *also* failed, in the exact same manner, on wake from suspend, but this suggests the problem isn't in suspending or waking from that, but just about the display sleep/wake. 3. It's only affecting nVidia (or at least, for me, it seems not to be also affecting Intel, but I haven't tried such a long sleep under Intel/Xorg and I should - tomorrow, as I'm in bed now). I bet there's no problem. :-) 4. It appears to be only affecting Xorg, although of course with nVidia there's too much else broken when trying to force it to use Wayland (which is, after all, not enabled by default for these reasons). Certainly no such problems on Intel/Wayland which *does* regularly get to sleep for long periods of time between uses, and I've never seen it hang on wake. (Hardware of my Intel graphics machine is an Early 2015 13" Retina Macbook Pro. This specifically is a Broadwell Core-i5 with Intel Iris 6100, and I've only attempted to use it on its own screen, not with any external screens connected. Generally, it runs Linux brilliantly, as far as I've so far tried, and is very happy with Wayland. All hardware just works OOTB.) I'm not using the default ubuntu session (with or without wayland) on either machine, but the GNOME session - wayland on the intel, xorg on the nvidia. Basically just because I wanted vanilla dash-to-dock. I'm not running many extensions, dash to dock, a wallpaper changer, ubuntu appindicators (which isn't working on Xorg on either machine btw, to be the subject of another bug report when I get a round tuit)... and nothing else that I remember right now while I'm not at it. Come to think of it, I do need to test using the default gnome shell theme rather than Arc's. I will tomorrow. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1720149 Title: gnome-shell segv on wake from display or system sleep To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-shell/+bug/1720149/+subscriptions -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
